Alright - since I've had it a few days now (thanks Wally World!) - my impressions:
Console:
- Eh - if you didn't know already - it's freaking huge (especially compared to the XSX).
- Personally - I like the size/form factor of the XSX a bit better because the PS5 is just.. well ... BIG
- Further adding to this - I'd prefer if it was all matte black or a muted color. Just not a fan of the color combination and it doesn't jive with my setup
![Stick out tongue :p :p](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
- If Sony ever decides to sell additional side plates with a different color I'll be buying them - or maybe painting the ones I have?
- It's whisper quiet - though *not* as quiet as my XSX. Best way I can describe - the fan frequency is higher pitched on the PS5 versus XSX.
- As a result I can hear the PS5 at times during gameplay - whereas the XSX ... nothing.. dead silent.
- All said and done - these are all just minor nitpicks - I'll get used to it..

Controller:
- Definitely a huge improvement in overall comfort level compared to Dual Shock 4
- Certainly feels premium and well made as well
- Evolutionary versus Revolutionary..
- Compared to my XSX controller(s):
- A bit slippery and doesn't have the same "heft" or weight
- Almost feels a little too light
- Unless I'm missing something -
- Wish the PS5 controller would have included back slot to insert and provide option of replaceable rechargeable batteries?
- (i.e. I have the recharge packs on my XSX controllers)...
- Haptic feedback and Triggers:
- Impressive responsiveness
- Reminds me a bit of the Wii controllers (????)
- Triggers are certainly Interesting - though not sure if I'm a full fan of them for all games..
- For the *right* game(s) - absolutely will add to the immersion
- A little concerned regarding long term viability of the triggers...
- Already have seen reports of others getting stuck/breaking?
UI:
- Prettier than XSX
- More immersive on the game launch screens (swapping background music, etc.)
- Functional - easy to navigate
- Cards are nice ways to keep track of your progress in games you're playing (not on XSX)
- Haven't had much chance to see if this is available on PS5 UI - but
- XSX is more configurable to organize the menu/sub menus to your liking
- It's a launcher..
- I don't spend too much time there on either console..
Games:
- Overall:
- Games launch fast/quick across the board
- Compared to XSX - I'd say that overall PS5 launches certain games at near cartridge level speeds, whereas other games .. the feeling is that they launch in similar time frames
- Shorter answer:
- Games launch MUCH faster overall on both systems - no complaints - but certainly not 2-5x faster - more like 2-3 seconds faster..
- Individual games:
- Have a big backlog to work through (skipped PS4/P because.. well kids are damn expensive..
):
- Spiderman:MM / Remaster - System sellers - impressive RT
- GoW - 'nuff said - nothing new here - awesome game
- Ghosts of Tushima - just... wow - really impressed with the overall feel/presentation of this game - though it may become a bit repetitive on combat?
- Horizon Dawn - Played this awhile back on my nephew's PS4 - much smoother on PS5 from what I recall
- Astro's Playroom - awesome demo game showcasing the controller and it's capabilities..

- More games from the PS collection on PS+ will certainly be on my queue (inFAMOUS, TLOU, etc.)
- Demon Souls is on my list to buy but - well - I've spent quite a bit of money the past few weeks and my CTO (wife) has cut funding for the time being ..

Final thoughts:
Like the XSX, - PS5 is an absolute beast of a machine. Both are unique and have their own "personality".. a VERY good thing IMHO.
I'm truly excited for both systems and am looking forward to exciting gaming experiences on both systems. For these recent and upcoming cross-over gen games - none of the launch games (outside of SpiderMan:MM) really excite me to purchase outright.
I'm not sure which system I'll target these early cross-gen games to play on - as I'm of the opinion that both systems have their respective pros/cons and I really could care less about the current random #framerategate and #resolutiongate comparisons currently flooding YouTube. By the time I finish my current backlog and begin to look for additional games to play - these might be on my list since they'll be discounted, and at that point - I expect that most of these "issues" will be patched/addressed by then and we'll see parity between the two consoles at least for this initial wave of games.
Longer term - well - we'll see - I've owned (and played) practically every console since Atari and Pong days (yes I'm that old) - and I'm certainly excited to see the first wave of games targeting ONLY the PS5/XSX. Absolute great time to be a gamer!
