What do the markings mean, there's 7 present on XSS & XSX but only 5 on the PS5 stamp. Each mark represents a Month maybe.

Careful, some might think you're serious.7 = Full RDNA 2.0

I don't think so because there is only space for 8 dots and AMD chips are dated with Year + Week.

Right, i think someone mentioned that before, but id still rather have them upgrade the visuals than settle for 60 fps. I really dont want a 5 tflops game using the other 5 tflops just render 2x more frames or 2x more pixels. ;pDon't remind me about that nightmare.
Well that UE5 demo according to Epic can now be rendered in 60 FPS.
On top of that, that demo was designed to push an insane number of polygons/triangles and there was large amounts of culling which was also taking place. No first party game would use that many triangles/polygons because of both storage and performance bottlenecks. Epic could have easily reduced the polygon count by 10% and increase the performance significantly and the fidelity would not be compromised at all unless you put it under heavy zoom.
You lost me there.the reason why Im so against wasting GPU resources on 60 fps

That said, for some reason Insomniac went with native 4k 30 fps for Ratchet just like Bluepoint did for their 30 fps version so its possible their goal was to release a 1440p 60 fps mode all along.
EDIT: part of the reason why Im so against wasting GPU resources on 60 fps or native 4k is because we are still so far behind what I consider to be either photorealistic visuals or film quality CGi. This CG tv spot for Miles is what I want next gen games to look like and I think they can get there with a 10 tflops PS5 is they just focus on a 1440p 30 fps budget. Those 10 tflops are already being stressed by having to do expensive ray traced reflections that come at the expense of normal rasterization performance.
In just three years, we can get 60 fps versions of these games anyway. Just buy a ps5 pro. Or now that these games are going to PC, just buy a 3080.
lol I just look at the best games of this gen and the gens before and very rarely do you see a 60 fps game win GOTYs. Even back in the PS1 and PS2 days when 60 fps modes were far more common than they are today. You lost me there.
360 was a great console (outside of the ROD problem), but when it comes to the games it had nothing to with MS, thanks to the 3rd party instead.Yeah, ps3 vs 360, MS has done only shit and Sony was perfect with clearly greater success
Not that I don't disagree with your sentiment regarding GOTY's from the past, I just think it is different this generation.lol I just look at the best games of this gen and the gens before and very rarely do you see a 60 fps game win GOTYs. So while 60 fps is definitely better, i'd rather devs finally focus on destruction, better A.I, more NPCs, better graphical fidelity, more effects, more everything.
This i agree with, MS started good with 360 gen by financing games like Lost Odyssey, but they gave up way too fast and then go full retard with Kinect, and now gamepass is their new thing they try hard with. It's like they always try to get money from you with some weird shit nobody ever asked for, but never do it with concrete stuffs that everyone are asking for, cf. great games... yup couldn't be that simple. In fact, I agree with that. I just disagree when for many people, MS is only doing shit. With 360, I really think that MS has started to do really interesting things and choices. But killed that during the last years.
It remained impressive after having the PS2 killing everyone the gen before.
For the rrod, I have indeed encountered it with my 360 from day one, but also had the ylod with my ps3 fat so for me it was a tie haha
I am mostly basing this off of what I see on my PC games. Doubling the framerate or resolution directly affects the GPU usage. Its a fairly linear relationship. Maybe engines will change next gen, but even if the better architectures of CPUs will allow for far more 60 fps games with destruction, higher NPC counts and better A.I in general, the GPU will still be doing all the heavy lifting. Destruction is all physics based which is all GPU. NPC simulation logic are also tied to the CPU but again, the GPU is the one that has to render all those extra NPCs. So while the CPU will allow all these fancy new features, the GPU is still doing all the rendering and doubling that load by either doubling the framerate or by double the pixel count will directly affect the GPU.Not that I don't disagree with your sentiment regarding GOTY's from the past, I just think it is different this generation.
Developers are less hindered by the hardware than any other generation, the amount of R&D that has gone into game engine's that has carried straight over to this generation as well as the maturity of the tools (and no problematic SDK's and development environments with the complex programming required like PS2 and PS3) , the development pipeline is already mature enough that developers do an incredible amount from the get go and will only improve as we go on. All those things you said re: AI, more NPCs, majorly increased graphics fidelity will all be possible alongside a 60FPS option and will be more up to the developer's capabilities and resource allocation and I'm all for it. I'd love to see a Red Faction reboot built using Unreal Engine using their chaos destruction physics, dense NPC crowd simulations in open-world games and so much more and I don't think that developers also wanting to achieve 60FPS would limit any of that entirely.
I think everyone understands not everything can be shared - but what gets shared is so vague it either builds hype to unsustainable levels or creates spin off rumors.
Back around the console gameplay reveals last June/July it was getting ridiculous - not to mention the teraflop rumors before Road to PS5. No one has gone back and pointed out the clearly widely inaccurate insider data from that time.
Sony's SSD advantage hasnt exactly shown up in games or even load times so far in multiplats. I was expecting at least 2x faster loads but they are all pretty much identical at the moment. The game sizes being much smaller could be a big advantage in an age where SSDs are expensive and the internal space is very limited. I wonder if Sony will focus on that as a marketing bullet point.Even up to the Road to the PS5 there were a few of us (very few actually) who stated all along the XSX would be more powerful in sheer TFs but the PS5 was slightly more advanced and faster SSD
I agree with this statement for the most part but is it "at the expense of tflops" if the performance is mostly the same? I think that remains to be seen truly.Sony's SSD advantage hasnt exactly shown up in games or even load times so far in multiplats. I was expecting at least 2x faster loads but they are all pretty much identical at the moment. The game sizes being much smaller could be a big advantage in an age where SSDs are expensive and the internal space is very limited. I wonder if Sony will focus on that as a marketing bullet point.
Hoping to see some stark SSD and I/O advantage going forward seeing as how much Sony invested in it at the expense of tflops.
They could've still delayed them until further notice. The pandemic has screwed everything up manufacturing wise. Game development too. Not to mention there's currently a chip shortage going on, and if Sony and Microsoft decided to delay the manufacturing, they'd be shit out of luck securing production at TSMC. Consoles take years developing and working towards a release date. Unfortunately the bed they made also has Covid. I'm sure we'll see some cool stuff come June. Hopefully I'll own an LG C1 by then.
I think you can blame this on how customized current engines are to use HDDs. I'm eagerly waiting to see how the first games running on UE5 and other next gen customized engines will run.Sony's SSD advantage hasnt exactly shown up in games or even load times so far in multiplats. Yeap... 8GB runs at 224GB/s and 2GB runs at 56GB/s.4 modules on the front and 1 module on the back.
If the hardware ML is the INT16/INT8/INT4 mixed math then yes the gap is more like around 20% than the 40% more CUs.If ML is run off the GPU, and the XSX has more CUs... Won't the higher clock of the PS5 GPU close the gap somewhat.
April’s PlayStation Now lineup is a titanic team up featuring Marvel’s Avengers, Borderlands 3, and The Long Dark. Save the world, shoot up a galaxy, or survive an icy wilderness: take your pick from tomorrow when the games launch into the service.
If I'm not mistaken the XSX is re-using some parts from the 1X.Sony outsourced quite abit it seems for the PS5 development.
The Southbridge Chip is newly developed apparently compared to the Xbox Southbridge Chips.

Although at the moment this patent from Sony may be that, like many others, finally it remains in nothing else. The PlayStation 5 could have new forms and ways to play their controls if a new Sony patent comes to fruition; or to someone. It is a move that would make titles more accessible...nintendosmash.com

It's south-bridge for controlling of USB and security. If I'm not mistaken the XSX is re-using some parts from the 1X.
Edit: This may also explain the seemingly sudden discontinuation of the 1X.
The newer Southbridge Chip in the PS5 makes sense, PSVR2 connectivity etc...It's south-bridge for controlling of USB and security.
Yeah it does, consoles are build differently, also display port in USB-C you need additional HW for that. The newer Southbridge Chip in the PS5 makes sense, PSVR2 connectivity etc...

Off topic I know, but in case there are Star Trek fans here.... Looks like Q is returning... I just hope he's nothing like he was in Voyager.

I've never been a fan of Star Trek as I find it's nerdy comedy cheesy, except the followingWill watch just because of Q
