I confirmPS5 digital has the battery bomb on the inside also.
Right now there is no native PS5 game limited to 30fps; was the last, but got patched. On Series X/S there is still The Medium. It does for some titles .. just like there are titles on Ps5 and XSX that run at 30 frames.
Maybe those consoles should be rebranded at up to 1800p 60 frames sometimes 120 with some clouds and rain.
There's some very bad news..
It's only a matter of time now.
MS branching out, Game Pass in Dave n Busters confirmed. To Microsoft right?
Doesn't it affect zero PS4 owners because you can replace the battery and re-connect to PSN and get your licenses renewed?PS5 digital has the battery bomb on the inside also. You know a problem that affects less than a percent of current ps4 owners
It affects you in the way that you have to take off the warranty seals and strip the console down to replace the battery. I had some problems finding the right sized security Torx screwdriver, but in the end I am convinced that the hardware will fail earlier than the CMOS battery runs out unless you do exactly that; strip the console down for cleaning and replace thermal compound.Doesn't it affect zero PS4 owners because you can replace the battery and re-connect to PSN and get your licenses renewed?
How does Xbox One / Series handle these issues? Do they have a time bomb, too?PS5 digital has the battery bomb on the inside also. You know a problem that affects less than a percent of current ps4 owners
By the time your ps4 does this you're well out of warranty. Edit: Its not very hard either if you take some care. The security torx are only on the back, from there on its regular phillips screws. The hardest part was pulling off the bottom case of the console but if one simply follows model corresponding ifixit guides I think anyone with some common sense can do it in an hour or so.
Xbox Series games discs have a one-time online activation. How does Xbox One / Series handle these issues? Do they have a time bomb, too?
AFAIK if you stay offline on a Xbox, you wont get any achievements. (one of the reasons we need that battery for the PS console, if I understood it correctly)
Disc games should run as long it is a full game on disc where we dont need to download a Day One patch to make it work.
And what about Nintendo with Wii U and Switch (can the Switch even be used without any kind of batteries, just play on TV with the Dock?)
Looks like Luigi was always the better brother. There's some very bad news..
Those fucking plumbers had it coming. They made the wrong turn and ended up in Finland and not in Sweden. There's some very bad news..
Yeah, thats true as well. I did it out of curiosity a couple of years after i bought it. I also have a strange fetish for cleaning dusty electronics, nothing beats removing a buildup of dust on a heatsinkBy the time your ps4 does this you're well out of warranty. Who gives a shit about warranty seals after the warranty is up
Only Series or did the One have that too and what happens if you never go online?Xbox Series games discs have a one-time online activation.
To be clear, it enables access to the game with a disc for that account. Discs are not uniquely assigned.
On the One, it was planned to be actual DRM, on the Series, it is part of Smart Delivery.Only Series or did the One have that too and what happens if you never go online?
First time I hear/read this
The issue is that if the servers for activations are taken offline then you are fucked. The concern has come about cause Sony are killing the old stores, if this includes the servers for activation then there is nothing that you can do.The CMOS battery thing is such a massive non-issue.
CMOS batteries can die on a PC too. All you do is open it up and replace it and you're good to fucking go.

That's my hope as well. I think Sony should bit the bullet and make sure that they don't kill the activation servers ever. It's not going to be a huge cost.On a positive note since the PS5 is BC with the PS4 it's less likely that Sony will shut down the PS4 store anytime soon.
Xbox does not have any CMOS, it just gets discharged upon power-less "operation", you plug it in and bam, it works. Same shit since X360. Not sure why suddenly some people jumping out of woodwork and stirring drama. If you have how to connect PS4 to the internet, it's non-issue.The CMOS battery thing is such a massive non-issue.

It's cause of the ps3, vita store stuff has gotten people testing it onto the newer consoles. It's very much a problem for people really interested in game preservation.Xbox does not have any CMOS, it just gets discharged upon power-less "operation", you plug it in and bam, it works. Didn't he give an interview some years ago where he said he'd like to do something like GTA.Kazunori Yamauchi Will Keep Making Gran Turismo, Also Wants to "Do Something Different"
Polyphony Digital studio founder Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed that he's planning to continue working on the Gran Turismo game series into the future, and beyond next year's Gran Turismo 7. The comment came in a rather unusual interview between Yamauchi and Masayuki Chatani, the chief digital ofwww.gtplanet.net

will he open the portal to a new reality?“I would like to take on the challenge of creating a world where people feel more reality than the real thing, whether this is through Gran Turismo or not.”
Did they try putting it in offline mode or is it still trying to connect to the net? I kinda wanna take my PS4 apart and remove the battery to check.Replacing the battery is one thing.
The real issue is what happens when Sony shuts down the activation servers. What about 10 years from now? 20 years from now?
The fact that you cannot play even disc games is completely insane.
This is nothing like Dreamcast's battery dying and all you have to worry about is resetting the clock on bootup.
I just watched the tests of taking the battery out and no internet connection - disc games do not work on PS4 and I would assume this applies to Ps5 as well.
Hopefully hell is raised and they make a major firmware update - otherwise, never buying another Playstation console after this news.
They are killed the option to purchase games on these stores. The issue is that if the servers for activations are taken offline then you are fucked. The concern has come about cause Sony are killing the old stores, if this includes the servers for activation then there is nothing that you can do.

You can download and activate games you own just fine.
again it's not about downloading and activating the games that you have. it's about activating the ps3 you have if you have to replace the cmos (and again there is an unknown about the activation servers, there is a possibility that they will keep it up for ps now)They are killed the option to purchase games on these stores.

Wait, did he? This is the first time I'm hearing this. Can you find the link?Didn't he give an interview some years ago where he said he'd like to do something like GTA.
Yes, in PSVR 2.
will he open the portal to a new reality?
They sent us one. Jeff: No they sent you one.
At least Sony is reasonable.Loved this part.
I wonder why?
I agree with you there.Replacing the battery is one thing.

Game preservation is and forever will be assured thanks to digital. Rom dumps are there way past any console's expiry date. I have terabytes of games readily playable any time I want without having to manufacture a crt and 30 year old systems.I agree with you there.
The unfortunate reality however, is that unless you buy all your games from GOG, you may as well never bother buying games at all.
Gamers were too eager to accept the advent of live services, microtransactions, DLC, buying half-baked software at full price with the promise that it will be fixed at a later stage - or better yet buying the fixes at exorbitant prices. And now we have GamePass and digital subscription evangelists, who are happy to trade actual ownership of games they enjoy for convenience and value for money (for now).
Welcome to the all-digital future.
Wait, did he? This is the first time I'm hearing this. Can you find the link?
