I hope so but don't expect anything now. All insiders have now gone into hibernation it seems so we just have to wait now.
That's what everyone thought after he posted it but it's clear the Feb event all insiders were teasing at was just a guess.
He wasn't specific about what was teasing, but if it was PS5 related it would be the announcement of the reveal event, not the revealing itself don't you think?

Maybe but it is a bit having their cake and eating it too. If Sony announce the reveal tomorrow then he will come back with 'told you' but if not then he can claim it wasn't a hint.

This is just an example. Similar can be argued with some things Klee has said as well.

And if Sony didn't announce anything at all he can say they changed their plans.

All the people assuming Sony wants to simply repeat 2013 have a severe misunderstanding of where Sony was then and where they are now. Back in 2013 Sony was at the end of a costly console gen that didn't make them any money (they didn't lose as much as Microsoft lost, but it wasn't pretty either). The whole reason why it was spread out that long was because in those final years they could finally make some of that money back. Which is why they had no interest in announcing PS4 early and they really spread it out until 9 months before launch. Now we jump to 2020. PS4 is bringing in the money. Has been since launch. And the only thing that can actually hurt their market position is themselves. So they announce PS5 early. In April 2019 they invite people to their HQ to write about their next console. It has no name, but everybody knows what it will be. They follow it up with a blog post to talk about the controller. And then when they reveal the logo that is really the announcement: It's going to be called PS5, From the start they have made sure not to talk about specs, but to talk about seemingly secondary stuff. The SSD. The controller. That's what Sony wants to focus on, because back in April 2019 they know that specs won't look great on paper. Do you want to launch an 8 TF console when three years earlier there was a 6 TF console? Yeah, we know the difference, but the general public does not. They see a number and that number looks very similar to the old number.

It must've been even worse for Microsoft. They really don't have a choice but to go to 12 TF. They sold the One X as being 4x more powerful as Xbox One after four years. And now three years later they want to sell me a console that isn't even double as powerful as that $499 machine from 2017? Are you crazy? All that in a period where Moore's Law isn't a constant anymore. People buy TVs because they are 4K instead of 2K. Even if they only watch TV. It makes no sense. But they do it, because numbers are important. More = better. Same thing with consoles. 8K console gaming? Surely that's better than 4K. 120 fps? I only have 30 right now, that must be great. And so they have a giant problem on their hands. They can't talk about specs because those will either be disappointing or very, very expensive. But at the same time they promise the full HDMI 2.1 feature set, knowing very well that 8K will not be a thing on next gen consoles. Just in theory. Here's Minesweeper in 8K. Here's Tetris in 8K. Yay.

Back then Sony found out that Microsoft was targeting 12 TF (because they really had to). So they upped the clocks, to close the gap. There's not much you can do at that point in time. Microsoft sells 50 million consoles, Sony 150 million. They have different requirements regarding yields. Sony can't afford a 56 CU APU, they just can't. Even Microsoft can only do so because they have a smaller SKU that will sell many more units than XSX. And Sony is caught in the middle, they can't announce the price because they know Microsoft will have the edge there with XSS. They can't announce specs because they know Microsoft will have the edge there with XSX (Phil Spencer: "We will not be out of position on power or price" - yeah, but you won't do both with the same console). So what do you do? You shift the goalposts. To SSD speeds. To the controller. And most of all: To the games. Of course they could do render trailers again, but that would not be smart. If you know a thing or two about game development it's this: Launch titles are starved for development time and games look better the closer they are to launch because of that. Would you want to show your games in a half-baked state right now (Klee talked about the game he saw running between 20 and 30 fps)? Or wait until they are ready to be shown?

Well, February or nine months before launch is not when you are ready to show your launch titles. In fact, Sony's whole approach says "we want to be close to the consumer". They are doing 100s of consumer oriented events for PS5 instead of E3. That tells you a lot. They want you to experience PS5 first hand. They don't think its capabilities can really be demonstrated in a Youtube video or a stream. But you also don't show your customers alpha versions with stuttering graphics. So when will they reveal PS5 officially? Why, after E3 of course. That's when they can react to Microsofts pricing - not regarding XSX, that's a given. But the specs will decide which price Sony can realistically ask for PS5 compared to XSS. If XSS is at 299, 399 is the max Sony can do. Buy a XSS for 299 or get a 50 % more powerful PS5 for 50 % more? Not a good deal, especially with XSX looming above it (150 % more powerful for 70 % more compared to XSS, 30 % more powerful for 20 % more compared to PS5). Consumers are very price sensitive. And shortly after E3 their games will be in the final stages of development. Visually complete, just a bit buggy. So then they can reveal PS5, start preorders - and get people to experience the console first hand shortly after. Doing a reveal now simply makes no sense, Sony is in defense mode this time around (not as a bad thing, they are the market leader and Microsoft will do everything to take that away). In 2013, they were in attack mode.

I just mean with the reveal. Enjoy the games... seems it may be a while before we have numbers

It is a physological thing. The whole thing. It is all kind of pointless to worry and anticipate and speculate, but I freaking love it.

I could play games from my backlog, but looking at leaks/rumors (even the stupid stuff that I instantly dismiss as fake) is like a drug hard to resist.

Same with PC hardware for me. When I am closer to buying a new PC then I spend more time looking at videos, websites, hardware than actually playing games.

I just love, but I try to not be too emotional or enter the console war.

What would make gamers happier in the end?

Spend millions on live presentations because we gamers want more info.

Or save that money put it back in R&D and say give us better battery life on the DS5?
on the serious note, do you think they will invest those money back into PS5? is it not a situation where people going just to split up those money on bonuses? etc.? i am pretty sure, the old gang would reinvest money back to PS5, but these new people? i am not sure. for me, they are huge downgrade. for me, they are people who are riding for the last 1,5 years on old gang's back. let see what the future hold for us.

Ok for those who didn't read it, i posted today that OsirisBlack OsirisBlack fortnight tease was on the 20th of January, that means we're less than 24 hours of something to happen? 14 days is February the 3rd isn't, what do you guys think?
when you thought you were out i pull your hasses back again
That would be cool, it my birthday on the 3rd

Don't do this to yourself. It's too quite for anything to happen. Like I said, wait for GDC2020.

Ugh, I read something on era earlier about a guy doing a "resident evil classic collection" mock up that had the first 3 games but original versions, and now I'm pissed... meh...

Imagine sitting an easy money like that and not releasing them...

I don't think can't is the appropriate word imo.

Just for me, I love their approach I don't want to sit through 2-3 hours of a cringe field live show to generate my hype.

A State of Play would be more than sufficient to do that for me.

E3 2015 cringe? GoW with an orchestra cringe? Spider-Man in 2016 cringe? Get out of here.

Honestly alls they have to do, if they want to, is throw up a logo for 30 seconds that just says PS5 and that is enough. Maybe a flash of the console, and that's all they have to do at this point. Would be a good teaser and let all the casual players know it is coming thus gaining interest. I mean why not at this point, I don't think it is going to happen but would be smart and neat. MS should do it also, but I doubt they will.

C'mon, they dropped the ball hard in E3 2018. Too much time spent on that cringeworthy flautist, people commenting stuff just to make time for journalists to change sets, wonder how much they spent on that circus. And this coming from an anemic E3 2017.

As in for a Super Bowl commercial?

You want them to spend 5 million to flash the box when a Tweet could do the same thing?

I for one am glad they skip E3 and not spend the 30 million it costs for those big companies to put on those shows.

I guess I am just getting to be that old get off my lawn kind of guy :)

Wasn't ads and commercials the win point for Sony for the PlayStation?

I for one cannot understand the thinking behind not wanting a company that makes billions every year to spend $10 million on an advert that will be seen by 100 million+ people. Especially the argument that the $10 million would be better spent on games/R&D, that's not how it works haha

I absolutely loved that LOU2 trailer and the church that was cool.

There are great moments but way too many Sony Flute guy moments for me to enjoy waiting and hoping for the moments you mention all the way to 2016.

I hope flute guy is there when they show off the PS5 and he kicks out a rockin solo. No but, seriously we are talking about 1 kinda meh moment over 6 years.

I must say, u r educated and wise. Finally someone that gets it.

IIRC Sony's original reveal in February was not very well received at the time, mainly due to the anaemic content of the games shown (remember 'Please be Excited'?) so I can see why they would be more inclined to do a big show later in the year

Speaking of ads that's one area MS piss me off with.

Sony just hammer home the adverts, all the time. Cinema? Advert. YouTube? Advert. Just watching random crap on the tv? Advert. News papers, websites, even the radio...

But Xbox? I barely ever see them. It's not just they don't have advertising rights, it's that they don't even do basic adverts, it's terrible.

People had by then already been conditioned to the "PlayStation haz no gamez" meme, so no amount of games shown would do anything to prevent that perception. The reality is that in the end, the PS4 reveal featured more games content than the XB1 reveal.

I remember the "Please Be Excited" perfectly. It happened at PSX.

No it wasn't. It was said during PSM in advance of the KH3/FFXV unveil at E3 that year https://www.siliconera.com/please-be-excited-for-e3-this-year-say-square-enix/

The PSX thing was the FF7 remake fakeout.

But anyway, I remember a lot of criticism aimed at what was shown of Knack and Killzone, with the only praise being for Deep Down

It seems patience has run out with the complete silence. I wonder if Sony respond to it or ignore it? Imagine if their plan is to unveil in September like Pro!!
They could.

PS4 reveal = Feb 2013
PS4 launch = Nov 2013

Since then.....

PS4 Pro announced only two months before launch
E3 2018 music lesson presentation
E3 2019 skipped
E3 2020 skipped
Following Nintendo's lead with State of Play direct streams

And somehow people expect Sony to still do a Feb reveal for PS5?

To invite all the game journalists around the world and fans to a huge PS5 reveal is a bad thing and a tweet and measly video reveal on YouTube will do? What kind of insane alternative reality have I woken up to?

Too many assumptions.

8tf PS5 and Sony being caught off guard needs to be let go.

PS5 interface.

Can't be the PS5 interface. In the wired article they mention it's going to be completely revamped and have live data about the games you're playing.

Could be a real. Or someone putting in lots of effort to fake a home page.

Anyone know if NPXS coding is something PS systems do in dev kits?
Yes I beleive ps3 was NPXS1 and ps4 was NPXS2

It is quite revamped compared to ps4 in that image. Got separate bars between apps and games. Ps store is in friend and invite bar.

I doubt games on devkits will have live data on the games your playing implemented yet. Stuff like that is usually done towards end of development.

"Completely revamped user interface" as the article states doesn't sound like whats show in the picture. That would be more of a tweak with slight improvements. They even compare it the PS4 interface saying how it can feel too frozen. Then go on to ask Mark Cerny what is it going to look like.

A PS4 looking interface doesn't warrant the comments in the article.

That would be cool, it my birthday on the 3rd

He's a inspiration to us all...

Could you please make a resume for me, my brain shutdown somewhere between 2nd and 3rd paragraph (i think it was too much knowledge, too fast), it was the 'Revelations' chapter: Sony has found out that Series X is 12 Tflops, and it's going to up the clocks of the 8 Tflops PS5!

If you think people ran out of patience, just imagine how they will be if MS show XSX again today at Superbowl? They already confirmed there will be something Xbox related.

Ya. There's got to be something Xbox related.

I don't see why MS would waste time saying a couple Xbox employees are at the Super Bowl and leave it at that.

That's far too long. This is a next gen console and they're going to need months to advertise it.

The release of the consoles is not going to change. Both will be in store by Nov/Dec 2020.
Surely they wouldn't miss black Friday? I'd think they would want to be out at least a week before that. Hell I've always thought the earlier the better to get the preorders out of the way and get some buzz going for the holidays with people actually having it in their homes. I don't get why they don't plan for September or October and get that second big bump during the holidays. Would almost ensure selling out the first 4 months rather than 2
