So we know

Navi CUs are considerably bigger then GCN

They have much more cache ie. higher IPC

They also clock MUCH higher

Navi 10 is bigger then PS4/Pro GPUs in addition to not featuring RT/VRS hardware which PS5 will have.

7nm node is MUCH more expensive then 16nm and 28nm. In fact, 320-350mm² chip from PS4Pro and PS4 would probably be ~50% more expensive on 7nm node.

Also note that 36CU Navi at 2.0GHz (even 1.8GHz) in PS5 would br MUCH more agressive then PS4 or Pro clocks. So even if 36CUs seem small, chip is (especially with RT) bigger then PS4/Pro one + clocks are MUCH higher compared to PC equivalent.

Conclusion? Get those clocks as high as possible for as little die as possible. Thats why new Renoir (4000 series AMD) APUs have Vegas with LESS CUs, but much higher clocks.

So if the APU in Ps4 was US$ 100, then they have spent $ 150-$200 if its 40 CU and would be 100 $ more than the ps4 Pro if it was using same memory and HD - so we are already at 499 at least for a 40 CU, and god knows what the SeX will cost ?

Both would be awesome. It's just BGs made comments before as a fan and people assumed he had information when he didn't.

It might be annoying having to explain yourself each time you make any comment, I'm just asking to be sure. We'll see in a few hours though!

Sony and MS have to place wafer orders with AMD well in advance, and AMD's also serving clients besides those two. So even if Sony delayed PS5, they can't just go to AMD and ask them to cut locked wafer budget deals with other clients and give that to Sony instead. That'd get AMD in tons of issues with those other clients, perhaps even losing their business.

Heck it could even be grounds for litigation but I don't know about that type of legal stuff. Point is, it isn't as easy as Sony deciding to "change plans". If they can't get the silicon produced, they can't simply change things up, and would have to work with what they have.

But maybe they've got a bit more than we have seen surface so far? It's possible, and maybe we'll see that come about in the near future.

Because Oberon is the one PS5 chip that's been consistently tested and revised with steppings as late as December of last year.

That's...kind of a thing you can't just simply ignore, no matter how much you want to.

Remember when DF published Pro white paper that technically was NDA'd and then that June MS said the One X (that would release a year fucking plus later was going to be the most powerful ever?) Im pretty sure the DF MS fanboys would (il)legally let Microsoft know what is up at Sony's camp. Why not tout their power boldly?

It's funny to read posts about the rejected "9.2TF design" )) In the later stages of development, this is almost impossible... Alternatively, they can increase the level of marriage for receiving the chips from an unlocked CU 40 instead of 36 Keeping the frequency (it's not simple) they will receive 10.2TF.

I would just like to put my hand up now before Cunto McCunterson and co. say anything. I've always been on team vr and think it's a bad move Xbox are not chasing it.

DF wasnt first to publish PS4Pro devkit docs, it leaked everywhere after GDC 2016, therefore MS could say they have most powerful console at E3.

DF also didnt leak PS4/Xbone devkit docs, Vgleaks leaked them therefore Sony could say they have most powerful console in February.

Currently no devkit docs have leaked, so anyone saying they have more powerful console could, legally, raise eyebrows.
