I wonder who is flying the plane?

Ok we are all doomed.

BTW the compute difference between XB1 & PS4 is ~40% for a ~30% difference in resolution, goes to show TFs doesn't necessarily scale linearly with performance/resolution
And keep in mind that in that case, the difference in memory bandwidth was truly large.
If we want to be accurate, PS4 had 40.68% more TF while 1080p is 44% higher resolution than 900p, not 30%.

I wouldn't say they shaved off storage, its just the result of 12x64GB NAND chips. But i agree consoles have a budget, there'll be comprises the key is to make those compromises in areas where the performance hit will be as minimal as possible.
Why specifically does the PS5 have 825GB of storage? Mark says, "with a 12 channel interface, the most natural size that emerges is 825GB." Whats the breakdown; more specifically why is 825 the most "natural size."

I like Tom and his channel, I'm a PS fan but at times I do find his takes to be a little suspect. he only every seems to came out with information (from his "sources") when some one else has already come out with the news before him. Like this video were he says that a dev implied to him we'll see RDNA 3 features in the PS5, this was already reported a few days ago by RedGamingTech who seemed more transparent with the information and more believable.
My friend, I watched the video and I dont see where he is talking about any source telling/hinting him that there would be features of RDNA3 on PS5.

The guy is just explaining/speculating how the PS5, (with a SSD as fast as DDR2) has developed a cheap solution for a what AMD calls SSG PRO: graphic cards with a huge pool of fast memory of access data.

Then the guy says that this kind of comercial cards could be relased with RDNA3/4.

I cant understand why you think faster SDD will reduce streaming pool size, because I'm not a developer and maybe you know certain facts I'm not aware of. The common knowledge however is 9 GB/s (PS5 SDD) cant provide data transfer for 10 TF GPU demands (that's why PS5 has 448 GB/s bandwidth, not 9 GB/s), therefore I'm guessing developers will be only able to use data that's already in fast RAM memory. Now, If memory pool for streaming (and that's data that will be used in the next 30 seconds, or even one second) will be really small like you are saying, lets say 1 GB, while PS5 can fill up 9 GB in just one second, so what will be the benefit of using the remaining 8 GB/s speed if just 1 GB/s can replace needed data in one second anyway?

If PS5 would be build with 32 GB RAM, and developers would allocate 9 GB just for streaming pool, then I could see why 9 GB/s SDD data transfer would make sense, but given current limitations (13 GB avialable to developers) I really cant understand possible benefits.

Man, you might not need all of that 9GB, probably more like half of it, but with that speed you can transfer 9MB per ms, that is what important, a second can be just too long. Same goes with 448GB/s, you don't need to transfer 448GB in a second, more like 448MB of data per millisecond. It should help with input lag and framerates indeed having 9MB every millisecond so you can turn blazingly fast without extreme pop-ins and unrendered/empty assets.

I can see where you're coming from, but I would say it being a 1st-person does make the game's world more immersive to discover and walking into, but you can't see your customized character while playing the game so what's the point of customizing your character LOL!! But I see where you're coming from, if you know what I mean...👀

Well, I have to wait and buy it, and that is my usual preorder anyway with season pass or whatever bundles they got. It should be a great game, but I favor 3rd person view a lot more, like in car games.

Bro he literally said "I have had a lot of not so subtle hints dropped to me that both Sony and Microsoft co-developed parts of future RDNA architecture....". These hints would obviously come from inside sources. He then speculates that this means AMD could have incorporated some of Sony's tech into the RDNA 3 node.

But I guess it is very ambiguous , I'll give him benefit of the doubt since he usually has good content.

Cerny wanted 12 channels in order to have an extremely fast drive. All NAND units have to be the same size, so Cerny had one of two options that make sense for the PS5:
1) Use x12 64GiB units, resulting in 768GiB drive (which is 824.6GB).
2) Use x12 128GiB units, resulting in 1536GiB drive (which is 1649.3GB).

1.65TB was too expensive, so they went with 825GB.

edit:
I might have answered a rhetorical question :)

Mark was more explaining why it isn't 1TB more than any thing but the weird number is explained below.

Gibibyte (GiB) vs Gigabyte (GB). 12x64GiB chips = 768GiB = 825GB

ETA: Beaten and a better post!

SSG for all next gen?

Fascinating video, thanks. I can't help but to think back when Cerny mentioned this in the GDC presentation (jump to about 06:00 in Moore's Law video):
If you see a similar discrete GPU available as a PC card at roughly the same time as we release our console that means our collaboration with AMD succeeded.
It's really awesome to see these different platforms (or manufacturers of said platforms) working with one another so well that the partnership drives tech forward in a significantly innovative way.

At the very least, what Tom is speculating on is roughly consistent with what Cerny spoke about in the Road to PS5.

12 relatively cheap, low-density dies adds up to 835GB. That's about it.

You know tech stuff better than me, but I was talking about pure graphics :messenger_crying: It's too good that it would hurt my feelings if not seen in games at least within mid-gen refreshes in 2023-2024.

I hope finally we will get some tech-demo quality with the new ssds in both systems.
Unless msft decides to support everything (which they will, probably).

I don't really care, I can see Sony securing more 3rd party exclusives for that matter than this gen along with their 1st party studios that are much more important to PS hardcore fans.

No, this Kind of graphics you will see on NexT generation.
Remeber when first trailer for The Order apear, almost all the people says it was CGI....

I would love another sequel from The Order 1886, what a wonderful, short game it was. I can see it even great with some MP mode:

Never seem gun details and effects like that in any game myself. Especially with a good headset the sound of some shotgons metal clanking is pure ASMR. Still to me the best looking game ever made, would've loved a patch for PS4 Pro.
