When Sony released the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, it sold 7.5 million units in its first two quarters.

That's why I highly doubt that Microsoft is going to produce 10-15 million. If Sony wasn't able to sell more than 7.5 million in 6 months what chance does Microsoft have?

Even if Microsoft produces that many systems retailers won't accept them all. Which means the ones left over can just become expensive to Microsoft because of storage costs.

The smart thing to do is make sure that your supply and demand are close to each other. Which is what I'm predicting that both Microsoft and Sony will do.

I think the issue that Gaf has with insiders is that we had insiders in the past that deliberately falsified information using fotoshop. TommyFisher (fake Dualshock) and I believe FCRC (fake PS5 dev kit) are responsible for creating this mistrust in insiders.

Now while we do appreciate you sharing information with us unless the source is clear we have to take it with a pretty big grain of salt.

There was a rumour going round MS might launch early ... perhaps they're going for a surprise launch in late August/early September to try and get some units sold through before Sony.

Easier to create means more high quality games hitting the platform much quicker, and/or games taking the same amount of time to develop as before but now with far more attention to detail and features.
More love being poured into a game, and less roadblocks and headaches to sap developer time. Less reasons to put more ambitious ideas on hold or out of project scope if you spend more time creating rather than problem solving.

A console's success is defined by its cost and the frequency of quality games coming out for it.
A console's success isn't defined by how well it could theoretically work, or how it stacks up on paper.
That goes for both consoles and the areas they are each strong.

Let's see if Sony's focussing on developers an fast IO pays off over the coming years.
Let's see if Microsoft's refocussing on hardware power and investment in first-party studios pays off over those same years.

It's all always about the games.

Games are art, when you don't enjoy building them, don't expect others to enjoy them neither.

Although PS5 can produce better looking games due to streaming graphics direct from zBrush.

CPU - *XSX > PS5
Although you must ignore the two other CPU's in the PS5 which take some load off the main CPU unlike XSX which will be drawing from the one. (The smallest of the three CPU's in the PS5 is the same size as the one found in the PS4.)

Memory - *XSX > PS5
Although you must ignore the large pool of SRAM in the IO which carries out tasks XSX will be using the main memory for and XSX will have split memory causing further complications.

SSD - PS5 > SSD

There it is. Just like the Scorn developer said, the difference won't be as big as it seems. Games can't be this detailed because they would be too large. Since they are smaller, you don't need to feed that much data to the GPU, hence you won't need such a fast SSD. Or am I missing something? Honest question.

For me multiplats are also fillers between Sony's exclusives. And PS4 is my first Sony console ... i was PC gamer mostly and then bought pro and xox. I loved every exclusive ( even days gone) and i think only multiplatforms as good as Sonys titles are RDR2 and Witcher 3. Rest games are not on the same level.

If UE5 tech demo was indeed build with PS5 I/O in mind, then it's perfectly understandable to me eventual XSX port would need to be downgraded. But lets be realistic, it's not very likely developers will use such qulity assets in their PS5 games anyway if this tech demo was over 100 GB like people suggest. Full game with such quality assets would be easily over 1 GB, so I guess even PS5 developers will be forced to downgrade their game assets anyway.

Ive seen many "suggestions". Personally i think it wasn't more than 10 GB, and you can have 2 hours more od that demo using same assets over and over in different manner. Games Will grow bigger.

Does anyone actually take Linus seriously? His knowledge of hardware/tech seems limited to building PCs. Cerny's "Road to PS5" video explains in detail on how the I/O work between SSD:Sys/Video ram in comparison to traditional use-case (PC architecture).

This guy sounds like he's often trying to keep a burp down. We can only take his word for this, and don't know who his sources are to judge how much weight they have, but it's inline with what anyone reasonable has been saying here after looking at what Sweeney has said.

A lot of what Sweeney has and hasn't said (including him mentioning the NDAs that still bind) has been interpreted by some as shilling for Sony because they had a technical partnership. I've always seen it as not wanting to downplay Microsoft or anyone, due to the nature of who they deal with and what their Engine is promoted as.

UE5 will scale all the way down to mobile devices. Nanite and Lumen are scalable on PS5, XSX and NVMe equipped PCs. Lumen in the Land of Nanite was very likely something that stretched PS5's capabilities in IO, because that's precisely what EPIC and Sony have been working on together, and that's exactly where Sony has spent their money.

There will be first-party games on both systems that wouldn't be possible on the other. In world detail and traversal for PS5, and in pixel density and perhaps RT in XSX.
Third-party games will depend on each studio, but it's telling that the biggest third-party engine was redesigned around technology developed by Sony, and it's just as easy to scale up in detail as down. As with every PC version of a console game that comes out.
Especially with Nanite whereby you can adjust its various parameters and just use your source material if you want.
