Their new sports titles day and date on Gamepass in partnership with EA could be a huge deal i guess.

Otherwise yeah i'm not a huge fan of EA either.
While that would be a killer move by MS, i highly doubt that EA would put the newest Fifa on gamepass. Especially if people pay like 1$ for it. The game is in the top selling charts almost every month.

How can IGN hire such technologically deficient mutants in such capacities? Executive Editor?
At least have some semblance of a clue when it comes to technology!
Someone who's intellectual levels couldn't comprehend to him that 1.3-1.8TF would severely hamper 10.3-12TF, shouldn't be in a position to tell other people about stuff.

If Ryan is starting the PR spin switch already, Phil and Aaron must have told him they're dropping Xbox One version of Halo. Sent him out to start spinning, warm the crowd up.

I think you might be on to something there.

I am pretty sure it has crossed their mind.

The damage, however, it might be a bridge too far if they do that.

It was obvious to anyone with any technical knowledge that when it comes to game development, on any platform, your minimum spec machine always limits the game design on the highest spec machine. So it's impossible to create a game that takes complete advantage of all the next-gen hardware features and capabilities while simultaneously running well on last-gen hardware.

The same principle is going to apply to Xbox Series S (Lockhart) which will serve as Microsoft's minimum spec machine for next-gen, much like Xbox One S does now. Anybody who tells you Lockhart won't hold back game design, is making the same mistake Ryan did. Lockhart won't hold back any games in 2020 or 2021. But in 3-4 years, when game devs are exploiting the full capabilities of PS5 and XSX, Lockhart will definitely be holding things back (specifically the limited memory).

Naah.
Lockhart will be unnecessary pain in the ass to work with, but shouldn't be holding back nextgen due having same ZEN2 CPU and SSD as big brother.

Most of PCs ( because if you look on steam parts charts only maybe 5% of PC players would have better GPU than nextgen consoles )and currentgen - here is the problem.

Yep. Had a feeling this would start and begin to turn the ship.

Here comes another about-face by Microsoft to avoid potential disaster like they(narrowly) did in 2013 after being publicly embarrassed by Sony and many others for their odd policies on an underpowered, more expensive(at the time) Xbox One reveal.

Hope they do right by this. Get a concise focus going forward.

I understand the CPU and GPU won't be an issue. I specifically said memory. The rumor is that Lockhart has only 10GB of DRAM. That's less than the Xbox One X I currently own (12GB). Memory size always affects game design, so it will absolutely hold games back as we get late in the generation.

I doubt they care. Phil says next gen exclusives are bad, then they announced several next gen exclusives like 2 weeks later.

Ryan suddenly sees that cross gen is bad for "AAA system seller" games. Aka 1st party games. Aka Halo. He knows.

Xbox Series S be like.

Series S is fine. Just weaker GPU. Problem is they are desperate to pad numbers with PC.They are going to make games for HDD. They are so desperate for numbers its tragic. Jumping to XSX/XSS resets them to zero. They don't want that. Year on year numbers declining. They sold 17K recent months. They probably had estimated user base loses going into next gen at 5-10 million moving to PS/Nin/PC. But the interest metrics are looking brutal out there. To the point they can ,will probably lose 20mill users subs with such a poor roll out.

They lost 40 mill subs this gen. Restarting to zero with this shitty rollout. It's scary for them thats why they pushed that nonsense scaling garbage. Trying to hold on to sub numbers desperately. I would n't be surprised if all their projects were Halo infinite level & canceled or the devs done a mini revolt & had nothing ready on purpose. Anyway for people that don't care about selling consoles they exhibit a lot of caring
behaviour & actions.

Thats one roach influencer the rest will come out & start posting similar. Expect a Phil Spencer speech to appear soon. Just like clock work. Any bets on new xbox PR slogan thats a variation of "we believe in generations " ? LOL.

Damn really? Didn't know that. I'm wired all the way anyway but that's weird XSX isn't wifi 6.
You can see it on the spec sheet shown by Digital Foundry back in March. Its fine for most users, no need to overspend.

PS4 and XOne shipped with 802.11n in 2013. Then with mid-gen (S,X,Pro,slim) all got updated to 802.11ac.

I suspect both consoles will just wait for the slim/mid gen 2023 updates for adding 802.11ax, when its cheaper.

Xbox also didn't include any USB-C ports, so they must not care or think its needed.

Well actually the LCD are PC's with HDD's. So Series S (which is architecturally the same as Series X) won't really have an effect.

Yeah, not sure I buy the 8TF wasted to reach 4K theory. If all 12TF were dedicated to the game itself as opposed to just 4TF I suspect it could lend to accomplishing a lot more.

But I guess we'll see how that plays out.

Indeed, base PS4 has 8 of them and I remember reading somewhere that the Pro had, again, more than base PS4, so robably 16.

Perhaps 32 in PS5?
Well, PS5 will at least have 8 of them due to BC with the Pro and I would find it odd if they didn't add some more, perhaps doubled them to 16.

So if that UE5 demo relied on them, ouch for the XSX...

Yeah no. That's like putting 32 spark plugs on a V6 engine. What's the point?

Xbox fanboys are already starting admitting about the "Cross gen won't hold back next gen games" was total BS, good, better late than never i guess

That's why i don't like to argue too much with people that don't want to see facts, unless the guy or girl really don't get it but is open mind to understand, but most "Cross gen won't hold back next gen games" people i've seen commenting weren't in that category unfortunately, so not worth for waste time:

It's like the same that think that SSD will just make loading faster and that's it, it's like some just don't want to see the facts, but those facts they will see them sooner and later, and apologize again and again about them just like we're seeing now with "crossgen won't hold back" people, a classic at this point.

No, no way Sony will announce God of War 2 out of nowhere. This makes no sense at all, GoW isn't the kind of game you casually throw announcements.
Honestly... I'd lose my shit more of Sony Santa Monica told me Journey 2 was being made.
I mean I expect GOW2 some time in this next gen... But Journey 2?
Who's kids do I need to kidnap for this to happen???

Delaying Halo Infinate not only is costing them Money ( probably $40 million extra), but also confirm failure of long the planned strategy( which will impose extra cost as well) this will decrease Xbox division margins, and if XsX (or GP) doesn't meet sales expectations, then we won't see Spencer as the head of Xbox after 1st Q2021. Matt Booty will definitely be out as well.

Asynchronous compute isn't 'all' about the number of ACE's, and more is not always better. :) PS4 had also a hardware feature called 'Volatile Bit' for example which is quite similar to PS5 cache scrubbers. I think cache scrubber is a more advanced form of the Volatile Bit.

That was the same "gentleman" that at the start of last gen thought the human eye couldn't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, so... yeah. It's like these outlets go out of their way to find the least technical people that come to the job interview to be their mouthpieces.

Just quoting myself from the other thread.

Space will be an issue like it was in the past.

Ill have an external SSD for transferring and will be buying a large internal when they are available.

Also have fast internet so anything downloaded can be dl again quickly and installs are obviously quick.

Its a non issue

Even of it was a full GB space will be an issue.

What exactly did Cerny say?

I am not affirming anything. I'm just saying that people can speculate down and up too.

But I insist, I am not affirming anything.
He said they are using 12 channel interface, then showed this slide. It implies 12 flash dies.
He said 825 GB is most natural fit for 12 channels. So 512 Gb x 12 / 8 = 768 GiB = 825 GB

I barely remember it from back in the day... But I've just seen the gif in the actual proper thread.
Imagine if they had to repeat that conversation today between 1080p and 4K...

Is that the dude from Die hard 1, the slime ball dude that tried to make some kind of deal with criminals?

But sad indeed that there are so many incompetent people working on gaming related media.

Kind of miracle in fact, that someone can work on the area without gaining enough knowledge to understand stuff, when even amateurs can easily do it just by being curious.

I think he does understand it in some way, it's just he and others just want to blindly follow a certain narrative to excuse the bad decisions their favourite brand makes. Just look at this, how their opinions shifted when they can no longer make excuses:

Before Halo Infinite

After Halo Infinite

So cute how they all start back pedaling.

The thing is with Ryan and his back peddling is it isn't crazy to think cyberpunk 2077 will be the best looking game for a while and that is cross generation.

And I bet the absolute majority of games released for ps5 and xbox series x in the first year or two won't look as good as the last of us 2 or God or war.

I still think potato mode graphics at 30fps for the xbox one version of halo would have allowed a great looking halo infinite

I don't need or care about that feature. It would require more storage space be reserved by the OS. No thanks.

I will never need to quickly swap between 3 games in a few seconds. Useless. I play 1 game then stop, play another.

If PS5 games can boot in 2 seconds directly into gameplay from the OS (as they have said it can) then thats all I need.

Its not a smartphone.
All I need is to be able to suspend at least 3 games(1 for me, 2 for my kid).at the same time and I'm done.
