That was sarcastic. My point is that Market cap, networth whatever means shit. You need a cash that can be spent. A price have the cash that as you pointed out cannot be spent.
You and me can say MSFT is not worth 1.5 trillion. But the market says so. I am lifting figures off live. 50 million × 200$ worth MSFT shares changed hands yesterday in one day. They all believe Microsoft is worth 1.5 trillion, and combined they have lot of cash. Not difficult for a company to raise cash selling parts of itself.

Doesn't means sony cannot raise money. There is Japanese government. Investors who believe sony businesses sustainable will give money in excess of their market cap. Game Businesses who think playstation works well with them, could merge instead of being bought.

I am happy that Microsoft bought Bethesda. Otherwise, we will be stuck with arrogant Sony. Money hatting is a consumer friendly move. It fires competition.

I assume Microsoft wants to compete. Hope they aren't preparing to go 3rd party. This move means either they xbox is doing well or xbox is dying and they wanna go 3rd party.

Come on man, wasn't that after monster hunter world breaking sales records, being the best selling game from them EVER and number one Japanese game on steam?

They were in really bad shape prior to it, but yeah.... agree to disagree.

So am I and a lot of people here. Doesn`t mean that you, or everyone else don`t have a preference. It doesn't make it a "I'm not a fanboy free pass" or that I didn't hit the nail on the head. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
I prefer Linux. Buying series s and ps5 digital. 😈

You guys needed a win, last time with the 12TF was months ago. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

See that I said user base, meaning potential customers. How many versions of Skyrim did we saw again?
Basic math:

5M x $70 = 350M
25M x $10 = 250M

That said, they need to pay the other publishers their cut from Gamepass.
Are you sure they are willing to ignore the sales? Just like they couldn't ignore on Minecraft case.
It's just business, man.
the thing is there will be sales too....
you just ignore or pretend there will not.

My point is, what kept publishers "in check" for this long, were the MTX/GaaS/Season Passes and DLCs.
We've reached to a point, where they saw the numbers due to covid and likely thought "the time is now". People habits changed, they are consuming more games and as in any other market: "more demand means higher prices".

That is one part of the equation though, as games will be more expensive to make as I previously pointed out.

Investors don't expect to break even, they expect a return from their investments. Devs need to keep publishers happy, publishers need to keep investors happy, we'll have to spend more on our shinny new games.

You can always go the Gamepass/used games/finish your backlog until prices drop routes.

Compared to other hobbies, ours is still considerably cheap. Coming from the guy that will likely spend 900USD on his PS5 preorder in a few days.

Am I happy with the prices? Not at all. Do I think it's unfair? Not at all.

These are all fair points but then again I ask why isn't it consistent across the entire industry? Sometimes even the same publisher has different price points on the same product.

Publishers and developers have said for years games are getting too expensive to make and they found other sources of revenue and kept making them but now suddenly I am supposed to believe that publishers and developers are hurting after they are posting record numbers?

Do you really expect me to believe the quality of CoD and NBA 2K have suffered because of the $60 price point?

I'm happy that XBOX will be getting some hopefully great games, and give me a reason to really have a desire to buy an XSX. ... That said, I guess this commentary aged well:

"Exclusives Are 'Completely Counter To What Gaming Is About,' Xbox's Phil Spencer Says"

What do you guys think? Microsoft & Sony purposefully holding back digital models for Black Friday? Maybe they need something to compete against other merchandise on that day? Random thought.

I think they simply know that all early pre-orders will sell out anyway, and if they can choose they'd rather people buy the more expensive SKU. More digital consoles available means more people that would have bought a standard console had one been for sale instead, and they don't want that.

I explained in detail why: They want money.

I usually keep my expenses at around half of what I earn. Does that mean that I'll cut my salary in half so the company will have better profits? Hell no.
Do I think I'm fairly paid from my work? Fucking hell no. I'm a contractor and I know that the company I work for makes around 3 times what they pay me off my work alone.

See how this all works?

It feels like for Gamepass to become the "Netflix of Games" then MS eventually needs to take the leap and make Gamepass available to Stadia, PS5, Switch, etc. I think that's the only way they get enough volume to make a service like this sustainable with this type of acquisition. It just doesn't make sense otherwise.

I thought I specifically mentioned PS sales, didn't I?
If I didn't, please forgive me.

With that line of thought, which is cheaper? Subscribe for a month and finish the game or buy it at full price?
Do you think we can consider sales outside PS a "smart move"? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It rather bears pointing out that market valuation of all assets does not correlate with the amount of spare cash a company has sloshing about, because if you go down that route, thanks to covid, Amazon currently makes everyone else look a bit strapped.

It's Zenimax who said it's worthless not me. You wanna buy us, bring your cash.

Microsoft buying Bethesda makes things hella interesting.
The next-gen war just got serious.
Will be interesting to see if Sony has any counter.

Awesome stuff lol

MS buying bethesda was a great move. now hopefully bethesda can finally pump out some good games since most of them for the past 6-7 years have been total ASS.

Xbox isn't about gameplay anymore. Game Pass is such a good value, who needs to see any gameplay right?

I'm good with this. I work so much these days, I like the idea of gaming. I'm mentally gaming a lot these days, and need to know the best place to imagine playing. Gamepass lets me imagine entire generations of games on these new consoles!

Microsoft have acquired Bethesda, this is HUGE!!

I do not know what Sony will do, Microsoft now has more games and more studios than Sony, and they have BANGER HUGE exclusives, not just smaller games.

This is how you flip the roof on the competition LOL!!

Nah, GamePass will still be GamePass on PC and X-Box and PS Now will be on PC and PlayStation 5. Ecosystems. Just like Netflix and HBO may share a few common series but have their exclusives respectively (Witcher / Game of Thrones), so will GamePass and PS Now have common games and their respective exclusives (Halo / Spider-Man).

The Microsoft announcement is huge, but it beggars belief that we've still seen no Series X gameplay with 12 hours to go until pre orders.
And I doubt we'll see any at this point. Microsoft completely sidelined the elephant in the room with an announcement so insane it overshadowed everything that has been talked about so far in regards to the new consoles. The timing is definitely not a coincidence.

Yeah I don't think they'll go full exclusive. They'll still get the PS game sales, and if not then they'll get some people buying their console and getting game pass
Depends on their long term strategy.
Is the XBox hardware important in the long run or do they dont care and one day say "we don't care WHERE we sell the games as long we sell them". This probably also depends on how well the new XBox will sell.

If XBox is priority, they will make the games exclusive Win/XBox.
BUT if selling games is a higher priority, they might as well sell their games on Playstation too and risk the future of XBox.

It will be interesting to see how Microsoft will behave in the future.

Isn't MS buying Zenimax/Bethesta the counter to not having as many 1st party games as Sony already?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Maybe reserving the bulk via All Access? Probably not, but that's pretty sucky. They'd better let people on line know how many there will be before they make people waste time.

Why would you expect something like this? This is pure entitlement at this point.

I'd rather nobody make acquisitions like this, honestly. I have a bit of a bitter taste here, because it reminds me of when I had to buy an Xbox to get Shenmue II. You preach ecosystem, then go out and buy a major player like Bethesda.

I mean, when it's somebody like Insomniac, it makes sense since they were predominantly one platform anyway, similar to Bluepoint. When it's a major multiplat developer, it's kinda shitty.

I'd rather not see this bidding war garbage start back up. I dunno. Sounds like stuff will be akin to Minecraft, but I doubt Phil will acquiesce to big titles on the PS platform, I truly don't see it happening. Sounds like PR to downplay the backlash.

Fuck the cumbaya shit. There's Nikes, There's adidas, And then Puma's. Mac D's & Burger king. Fuck the samey shit. There has to be different stuff. If you ain't got the funds just buy one box.

Who knew the corporate salesmen lied to you & bought up studios. D.T.A. (Dont trust anyone) Two different philosophy. Sony nurture & grow organically. Xbox just buy & eventually the shit dies.

Just accept the differences. buy what you can, Look its all fun & games until Dr Strange pops out a portal in a Spiderman game. No Bethesda game can stop that. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Maybe. Could just be hedging costs. I remember the 360 Arcade was near impossible to get in 2005, ditto for the $500 PS3 in 2006. I would assume because the cost difference in manufacturing was not as large as the differential in MSRP, making the higher cost models more profitable (and both 360 and PS3 were losing a lot of money to start with, so this was a big consideration).

Possible i missed it but the point still stand they will have sales on pc and xbox on top subscription you need to take them into account too and not only count subscriptions
And by that same logic why can sony ingore 5M xbox/pc sales in same scenario but ms can't ?

So if tomorrow your company came to you and said hey we are making more money now but you don't get a raise this year because reasons, you'd walk away ok with that?

Highly doubt it.
