Nexus 4 |OT| Quality for everyone

It does... Just have to wipe off your fingerprints.

Not a big deal, really. I'm already having to do that with the naked phone.

I think I'm going with this protector (minus the front and side parts - just the back for now) and this pouch. I'm not concerned in the slightest about the aesthetics of the pouch. A poster on XDA seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. I like that it's not super tight like many of them are.

I just noticed two small-but-noticeable scratches on the back panel.

Fuck. I knew it probably would get a couple eventually, but after two days? Fuck.

Interesting. I've had mine naked for about a month now and I haven't seen a scratch. In fairness I may not use it as much as a lot of people because I work in an area where I am not allowed to have a phone, but still, 2 scratches in 2 days?

Yup. Sucks.

I thought perhaps they were some sort of residue or other random crap, so I tried to buff them out with a wet, soft, cloth, but nope, definitely scratches.

The protector and the pouch are ordered, so hopefully this is the last of it. It's really not that big of a deal. All cell phones get scratched eventually.

for everyone who says its very slippery on surfaces and dont want a bumper...why not just glue a small strip if thin rubber to the back of the phone. It will stop it slipping and the 1mm of height will stop micro scratches too?

Im going to do this with mine.

I'm thinking of trying to put a couple of small squares of electricians tape on the back, personally. Glueing rubber on seems a little more extreme.

I think the saving grace of the slippery back for me is the rubberized (or whatever) sides. The iPhone4, which is the previous glass-back phone I had, was still fairly slippery on the side due to the metal band. With this one, at least if you grip the sides, it probably isn't going to slip out of your hand easily. Still annoying that it slides down any other surface, but oh well.

Grab the XtremeGuard protector and use only the back, Adds protection and makes it so it doesn't slip.

Only $4 on ebay.

I really miss having the headphone jack on the bottom. :(

But I love everything else so I guess I'll learn to with it. :)

I think I'm going to pick up a generic screen protector when I'm out shopping tomorrow and stick it on the back as well. Shame they don't make some sort of clear, thin, high-friction material that I can stick on. A few times I've put the phone on the arm of a chair only to find it clattering to the floor shortly after (huzzah for carpets).

Damn I should've thought about that. Already got scratches on the back of my Nexus 4 =\ Back definitely is not the same glass as the front.

I have no screen protectors or case or anything on my phone, and I had it within a week of whenever it went on sale and not a single blemish on the phone at all. Screen protectors seem like one of the biggest scams on the planet, I've never scratched a screen on anything, yet those 'protectors' seem to get damaged quite easily, meaning people re-buy them over and over again.

I don't need/use a screen protector but I want a grippy one for the back that doesn't cover it up so I don't feel like this thing is gonna fly out of my hand everytime I hold it.

Exactly, I'm currently looking for a decent front screen protector that isn't grippy as it messes up my swype use.

Just bought a pack of generic ones on ebay. Will let you guys know if its any good. The only minus i see so far is that the dry screen protectors don't cover the curved sides like the wet screen protectors. They're cut a little smaller.

The xtremeguard full protector is on ebay for $5. If anything just get that and apply the back part only.

Agreed. I think TPU cases are fine for the occasional bump or drop but the two biggest scams are screen protectors and insurance. If the person's at least mindful enough with their phone, it'll last them for a long time.

My iPhone 4 doesn't have a scratch on it except for a few knicks around the stainless steel but it looks like it just came out of the box. I just used a TPU case and sometimes no case at all around the house. Putting on a screen protector is just nearly impossible. They attract too much dust and require a steady hand. They usually put three in the package because you're almost certainly guaranteed to royally screw up on the first two. The things get gunky and damaged after a month or so anyways.

Some of the more absurd ones are the one InvisibleShields ... anything that requires liquid application and overnight drying goes everything against common sense. Liquid = bad.

Quality is a grab bag too. I've seen screen protectors from the same company look grainier than others.

If I were to get a Nexus 4, I'd probably, at the most, just get a bumper.

I should really go and get a screen protector but it's been raining/snowing. And I'm lazy, so I can deal with little symbols on the ones that came with the phone.

Do the Ghost Armour people put the protector on for you? I really hate the process of making sure there is no dust or air bubble when dealing with screen protectors.

install flash 11.1.115.34 at this site

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/...roid/11.1.115.34/install_flash_player_ics.apk

the legit adobe flash site latest apk

then go to here

xhamster.com or any other HD flash site...

watch a HD video or non HD video is it smooth or stuttery ?

I just don't understand how a single core shitty tablet my friend has with ICS 4.0 runs xhamster HD fine but my Note II with the same APK runs the HD videos on that site like shit.... and my galaxy nexus runs it perfect too.... : /

hope an update fixes that and yes they are still updating flash for android... stealthly

it just bothers me that a quad core can't run HD flash videos while a single core runs it fine

Just tested a few videos, they ran smoothly using Firefox on my N4. Full screen and all.

Any recommended cases? I took off tbe plastic in the back and it looks a lot nicer now, but I wanna get a case or some new protectors to get rid of the factory one with the power and +/- on screen.

Damm it's a nice phone. Got mine today. It was one out of two phones that the local Saturn could order (B8 Centre Düsseldorf). Best part: all the guys that work there gathered around me and my wife to see this new device.

Great phone i love it.

Bzw: best Podcast app? And is there a quick way to select english text input? It always autocorrects to german when i type in english.

Does anyone else's keyboard ignore adult words when using the stock swipe keyboard? Or is it just mine? I have to manually key in swear words and even mild adult words like porn and orgasm. It's really annoying.

I have. They still don't show up.

This is what I see when I try to type in 'fuck' --

And this is what I see when I try to type in 'orgasm' --

It works fine if I input each letter with individual key presses. It's only when I use the swipe method that the keyboard refuses to recognise the words.
GUCCI!

Had the phone about a week now. Even people with 4s phones like this one better (nobody I know has a 5...)

Sleek as a mofo. Fast and response. Looks like a sexy thin model.

Complaints
Gets really warm with extended browsing WiFi and 3g.
Feels maybe a bit too thin and delicate.
Slippery and I keep hitting the sides of the screen with my hand when I'm one hand browsing.
Battery drains alarmingly fast with heavy use. My galaxy s ONE feels like it lasts longer.

Regrets? None. Fantastic phone for an excellent price.

Got in and ordered one when it was back in stock on the Canadian store and got 6-7 weeks order notification. Can't wait to ditch this HTC Desire Z phone as it's slow as hell. Any Canadians able to get the bumper?

Got it. Autocorrect works now perfectly fine. But the swype function seems to be turned off.

Swiping doesn't work in English? Are you sure you have activated matching input methods and dictionaries (there are a few different English ones, so make sure they are the same for both)? Should work if you have. I have US English layout + dictionary and Swedish layout + dictionary activated, and can swipe just fine in both languages.

To quickly switch between your activated languages, you should activate the quick language switching key (not sure exactly what it's called, but it's in the keyboard settings) if you haven't already. Once that has been activated you can switch between languages with a single tap on the globe key next to the space bar.

Thanks! I'm going to look into that. Was using
Google Listen... Not really good.

Thanks, got it working now. Dat quick switch key! Really useful.

Yeah. Some of the suggestions are flat out stupid. 'Pyjama'? Seriously? I'm hoping there's some 'adult filter' setting I've missed or something.

I know you have to manually add "fuck" to your user dictionary. Sometimes, swiping the word incorrectly purposely actually allows you to spell the word correctly. It's stupid, I know.

Google Listen is a dead product, Google gave up on it a while back. A bit of a shame, because I liked its nice syncing with Google Reader. Anyway, now I use BeyondPod, which is miles better in every other way (I mean, it does GReader sync as well, but it doesn't use it as its foundation the way Listen did).

First: Buy SwiftKey. It is the best keyboard you can get and its on sale. You will not regret it. I swear!

Second: Try Volksempfänger for podcasts. Its free and in alpha, but very nice. Its designed for android 4.0+ only.

A while back I would have said the same thing, but I now find myself really enjoying the swipe feature of the 4.2 stock keyboard, so I haven't used SwiftKey since 4.1. SwiftKey Flow is coming, and will probably be awesome, but I'm expecting it to be a separate product from SwiftKey 3 or possibly a cheap upgrade for those of us who already own the latter. I don't think every copy of SK3 will be upgraded to Flow for free.

I went from swype to swift key(due to JB screwing with Swype) and I have to tell you...I miss swipe so much. I recognize that sdwiftkey is fantastic but swipe is just so much easier.

Try SwiftKey Flow.

I disagree. I think Flow will be in SwiftKey "4".

I have SwiftKey since the very first version and I got every upgrade for free.
