Nexus 4 |OT| Quality for everyone

And to think I almost pulled the trigger on a $550 off-contract N4 from T-mobile just a few days ago... Dodged a bullet there.

Is it true the glass on this is easily breakable?
What do you mean by easily breakable? Lol

I dont think you have to worry about it spontaneously combusting on you but obviously if you drop it I'd say yup. Same goes for any glass phone I don't think its anymore prone to breaking than if you dropped an iPhone.

Went to Philly the other weekend and dropped it at a bar, which cracked the back in several areas. Ended up buying the navy blue ringke slim case to cover it. Actually looks really nice. Just something to consider.

I've been going without a case because the one I bought at launch sucks but this talk is making me paranoid. The phone feels really nice without a case. :(

Just ordered an 8gb. $340CAN with tax and shipping somehow feels like a much better impulse buy than nearly $400. I don't want to play 3D games with crazy huge assets, and I have a 16gb iPod nano. Checked on some app sizes, and I'm pretty sure downloading Netflix and Flipbook is still gonna leave me with plenty of room for max resolution photos and photospheres.

8gb is tiny though >.< I kinda regret getting a 16gb nexus 7 still, although that was the biggest at launch...

Kinda amazed google still has the 8gb, they are so cloud centric while networks are becoming even worse in regards to data.

Thanks, those look pretty nice. Is the $10 one good? The one that looks like a wallet looks cool but I'm not paying $40 for that.

It's very nice. The plastic feels good in your hand and isn't very slippery. Also looks sleek as hell. I have the Navy Blue.

I have 5.4 GB left on my 8gb still. If you don't need dozens of games then 8gb is plenty I'd say. Only other thing is music. I have Google music which is the only cloud thing I have/use. Nice to have 40GB of music at my fingertips.

Got a shipment notification from Google Play and my heart skipped a beat, alas it was only the bumper.

Very quick question before I place the order, have any current owners found the 16gb a drawback? I guess with most things being cloud based these days it's not a problem unless you have lots of music/videos?

Anyone use Google Music and Google Navigation with their car's USB port? Does it output audio, change tracks, and show the file's metadata?

Or do we have to use Bluetooth audio? I'd prefer a USB connection so it be charged at the same time.

Ordered a 16GB

Are there any good cases available in the UK? Most of the ones I can see on Amazon seem to be cheap gel ones. I'm sure they're fine, but ideally I'd like quite a nice case if there's any decent ones available over here.

Pouches are so much better than cases. Mofi pouch cleans the screen when you put the phone away/take it out and you still get to feel the awesome curved glass. I guess if you have butterfingers then it might not be a great idea..

Agreed! I've had a mofi pouch since I got my phone and it's perfect. I've had tons of people comment on how nice it is, too. It's a bargain at £4.

Had my first drop event today. It fell out of my pants pocket in the restroom. It was only from about 2 feet up and was in the Ringke Slim case, so no damage.

Ahh just got my shipment notice and I ordered Tuesday afternoon!

Now I just need to switch providers. Is AT&T going to give me grief about signing up but only requesting a SIM card?

Did everyone get long shipping estimates before they got shipping notifications? Mine (ordered today) says estimated Feb 13th but hopefully that's just standard with the "1-2 week shipping" status.

In regards to Naked Nexus action. I'm 2 months in with mine. Dropped it once onto a carpet and a couple of times off my desk onto a wooden subwoofer, not a scratch.

However, it is literally the most slippy phone I've ever had. It falls off flat surfaces regularly especially if they offer little grip. So be careful of that.

Yes. Feb 13th it is overestimate (1-2 week shipping) to hover their asses if something go wrong.
I have same estimation (Feb 13), but got shipping confirmation several hours ago.

Finally found some good cases in the UK. Best 3 I've found up to now:

GENx Hybrid Bumper case
Rearth Ringke Slim case
BodyGuardz Carbon Fibre Armour skin

Judging by the description ("Super thin PVC based film... measuring under 1mm in thickness") I'm guessing the BodyGuardz cover won't offer much protection for the phone, so it's probably between the GENx and the Rearth.

Has anyone used the GENx case? Looks quite good but it's more expensive than the Rearth.

Awesome, thanks. I ordered about an hour and a half ago so hopefully it ships today or tomorrow.

Everyone got that. Mine was supposed to ship on Feb 12th but it got shipped 3 hours after I ordered on Jan 29. Didn't link my account though.

Don't like pouches.

Also, my order says that my card won't be charged until it's shipped. I can see the charge on my card - so does that mean it has shipped?
No, that's essentially a pre-authorization or "hold." The money is technically still in your banks hands and there's basically a time limit associated with it where if Tootle does not finalize the sale within that period, I think it's ten business days, it will automatically revert back to your account.

They're pains in the assessed, because from the consumer's viewpoint your account might as well have been charged if the money's on hold and it affects your balance.

You can a lot without the SIM card!

Oh I'm sure I'll have fun with it and just WiFi. Walmart's website keeps saying there was an error with my order so I'm going to see if the stores sell them. For some reason the Straight Talk website isn't showing me any SIM cards to add to cart. If I have to buy a crappy phone with it in-store I will since I always like having a backup.

I've dropped mine four feet onto concrete, three times, no shatter! I do usually use a case now though, and I have a bumper on the way.

I do have scratches on the back. None on the front.

Is Simple Talk good? And do they do good on their promise? I almost picked them the other day.

Also which is generally better for a GSM Carrier: T-mobile or AT&T (to hijack through Simple Talk)? I'm currently using T-Mobile and I think they're okay, but someone told thats because I'm on contract and they allow to roam other networks when you're outside their coverage, unnoticeably. So basically I'm rarely sure about their real quality.

Either that or I'm totally missing a point.

Amazingly, I ordered (in Germany) 48 hours ago, with the expected ship date of 1-2 weeks, yesterday I was informed it shipped, and right now I have the phone in my hand! And it's still in stock!

No shipping notification for me yet! Then again, it has only been about 4 and a half hours since I ordered. Hopefully by the end of today.

I'm not terribly thrilled with T-Mobile in Cincinnati. It
isn't AWFUL, but there are some dead spots around the greater Cincinnati area that are worse than I've had with other carriers here.

Cincinnati Bell has a PAYG "Android 4G" plan for $50 a month (unlimited/unlimited/unlimited), but they throttle at 500GB, which is on the low side for me. http://www.i-ontheweb.com/shop/plans.aspx

So AT&T Straight Talk at $45 throttles at 1GB or 2GB, unofficially, and YMMV, right? Any other indication of AT&T giving the MVNO customers lower priority than their direct customers, or just the throttling?

I assume you mean Straight Talk; I've done a lot of research on it and I think it will be good. I'm going the AT&T SIM route since they have better national coverage.

Yes, on MVNOs you usually cannot roam off of the network they piggyback from--the reason I'm going AT&T SIM vs. T-Mobile.

As far as invisible data limits, I think it depends on the market. If your market has high saturation with AT&T/T-Mobile and you use a lot of data, they may throttle you. Supposedly if you don't enter proxy settings that ST tells you to it reduces what Straight Talk can monitor; I've just read that a few places, unsure of how accurate that is.

I use Net 10 on AT&T in Columbus. (Net 10 is essentially the same as Straight Talk, minus the Walmart co-brand.) I had to dump a T-Mo MVNO because the coverage is so awful outside of metro areas.

I just hit 1 GB about a week away from the end of my first month, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting throttled.

Not happy. Not fucking happy at all.
