Nexus 4 |OT| Quality for everyone

Awesome, thanks

No prob.

Every so often, though, they'll arrive after the office closes (6 p.m.), so if I'm not back from work by then, I'll get one of those damn yellow notes. Hell, one time I was home, and the driver was too fucking lazy to come up to my apartment and stuck the "missed delivery" note on my mailbox in the lobby.

you know these phones are starting to become jokes when it comes to battery life
all high end smartphones are

these aren't just phones anymore but "computers with a call feature"
battery tech can't keep up with the ever increasing power of these things
unless some breakthrough in battery tech comes well soon have 2 hour phones

makes me love my "dumbphone" that lasts 2weeks or something lol

I just turn off auto-sync and notifications most of the time, and when I'm at work or home I turn data off. I really only care about how smart my phone is when I'm actively using it, not passively carrying it. The fact that texts work without data is all the receiving connectivity I need when at home or the office.

Using these techniques, my battery lasts a couple of days.

Order just shipped.

ABOUT damn time

rabble rabble rabble.

But seriously, about time. Happy it's on its way finally, going to hulk smash this Blackberry soon.

So my phone was stolen, would you guys recommend this phone still? I want a new one now and this one looks great to me. What are the impressions from people that actually have it. does it overheat?

It can certainly get warm. But I love it. Feels great, is very fast, looks great, etc. I'd recommend it for sure. Others have left more detailed reviews in this thread, though.

Camera leaves some to be desired but the software associated with it is nice I guess.

At the very least, the camera seems to be better than than the GNex's. (Based on what I've read; I don't have a GNex.)

Worlds better than the GNex, for me. Also, I've found setting it to 5MP, rather than 8MP, produces much better images -- clearer with more detail, ironically enough. I've taken pictures of the same exact thing (without moving the phone) in both 5mp and 8mp, and the details in the distance were clearer with the former.

My opinion of it hasn't changed since this review, it's a pretty great phone and it's even awesome for the price. That glass back makes it way too slippery though, mine fell three times already just because I put it on a surface that wasn't completely level.

Indeed. I had a Galaxy Nexus, and truthfully, I expected to have buyer's remorse with the Nexus 4, because I initially did not think I needed to upgrade so soon (I bought my GNex in early April). I mean, the GNex ran perfectly fine -- except for the RAM constantly freezing/reloading apps.

However, it really has been a night and day difference between the two. The only thing I prefer in the GNex is the textured back; the glass on the N4 feels like holding a bar of soap in my hand. The bumper helps a bit -- but only on the edges.

All in all, I have no regrets with the N4 -- and unlike the Galaxy Nexus, I feel it is much more future proof. So, when the N5 debuts, I will definitely have an easier time passing on it (unless it's $300 again).

Good luck for those trying tonight. Hopefully it will be much smoother.

I have my replacement phone now which is pixel perfect. I continue to be extremely happy with it. It has pretty much everything I could ask for - extremely fast, call quality is great, the battery is more than acceptable and much improved over the GNex, screen is gorgeous, the data reception also seems better than the GNex and much faster too.

Just waiting on my bumper so I don't have to handle it like a newborn child.

Well this is interesting. I got shipping notification on the 8gb but nothing on the 16gb. I was able to order the 16gb first by at least half an hour before the 8. Wondering if this is sign that they have more 8's.

Saw this post on XDA:

I received the shipping confirmation email last night. I have not received a tracking number. I was told by a Google specialist last week over the phone that ordering the bumper along with the 16g did contribute to my back order. I was an LL2. I got the BO way late on the 21st. I originally ordered on the 13th at 8:33 am. I firmly believe, based on the conversation with the supervisor, that if the bumpers are not available now (today) that my phone will once again get back ordered until the bumpers become available..

Would it be advisable to hold off on ordering the bumper, just in case?

Furthermore, was there any correlation between orders with bumpers and time of arrival, for those of you on here who ordered it?

I suspected this was the case (no pun intended) for many people.

I ordered a 16gb with the bumper, which is probably the least available combination, within the first 10 minutes of availability. It took 3 days for my order to ship.

That said, I know some GAFers received the bumper but not the phone. I'm unsure if they ordered them separately, though, or all in one go. I would assume that Google does not do what Amazon does: ship parts of orders separately. I may be wrong.

I'm kind of Appled out if that makes any sense. I'm not too happy with the new iOS.

I'm pretty heavily invested in iTunes for music and some movie content(iPads and apple TVs at home).

This phone looks like a fun change of pace though. What could I expect stepping out of iOS?

Anyone hear anything about when the bumpers will come back in stock? I kind of want to use mine with a charging orb, depending on how much that cost.

half hour to go. i wouldn't be surprised if it went up at any minute. also i'll be there placing fake orders and hitting refresh to help bog down the servers again.

good luck.

I just read what intellidemand is and it sounds great. Do I activate it with his kernel app?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamkang.fauxclock

Are you using a custom rom too or just the kernel?

Stock rom. I am using no-frills CPU manager but I didn't know that he had his own app. I should just buy it.

He says by default he is using it but if it doesn't show up, you can change it. For me, ondemand was default.

Is the Nexus 4 as fragile as XDA indicates or are they equally as bad as Apple fanboys?

I took mine to a beach house in NC, a football game, and on a boat on the sound, inlet and Atlantic. No scratches or breaks as I was taking pics, handling it, etc.

It is slippery, though. Fear all inclines! So in my case it has handled itself well. But every situation and drop is different.

Theoretically since it has Corning Gorilla Glass 2 on the front and back it should be pretty resistant to most bumps and scrapes. That said, one of the teardowns noted that it lacks some features that could absorb impacts (I can't remember the specific wording/terminology) which might be why it shatters easily.

The back is insanely slippery. It's like they've put copious amounts of oleophobic coating on the front and the back. I'm not surprised if it just that people are dropping it more, rather than it just being more fragile.

Yeah, had it for a few days and I kept the back sticker/coating on as I am waiting for my case to come in. The sticker started to peel on its own so I just pulled it off. Put it like I normally do on my notebook and the damn thing starts sliding off.

Definitely need my case sooner than later.
