Does anyone know of a website that will compare all of the specs of the 7" tablets? Mainly screen resolution, PPI, etc?
N7 is the best 7" tablet available.

The HIG recommends 44px minimum for interactive UI elements. 163ppi (points) translates to 7.85 if they were to use existing iPad apps.Ok so how does that translate from the phone to tablet? I don't see the UI connection to be honest. I thought it was just because they could use the same machines pumping out the old iPhone screens to just make the screens for the 7.85 iPad instead. i.e. it's a manufacturing, supply-chain decision not a UI decision.
N7 is the best 7" tablet available. The only thing other tablets may have over it is the back camera and SD card.
Which illustrates the issues with this tier. It's like picking 3 legged horses.N7 is the best 7" tablet available.![]()
Not really even sure if I'd consider the lack of a back camera flaw really. I know you didn't call it one, but some others have. I just don't see the need for one on a tablet.
To be the person who holds it up at a concert to take pictures of course.

If you take the logical approach, it's not a flaw. But from a consumer point of view, it's probably a minus. I'm basing this off the surprisingly large number of people who use their iPads as a camera. Maybe it's "stupid" but it happens a lot.Not really even sure if I'd consider the lack of a back camera flaw really. I know you didn't call it one, but some others have. Good thing I decided to follow up on my 8GB cancellation, they didn't process it. I would have been charged for both.
If anyone else did the same, I highly recommend checking up on this. Google customer support appears very untrained.
In case anyone is wondering about the process to change their order from the 8gb to the 16gb (or vice versa)...
I called Google and the lady was very nice( it took about 15 minutes on hold to get to a person). Since the order was placed more than an hour ago, level one support does not have the authority to cancel my order. She sent a request to a 'specialist' who will cancel the order in 1-2 business days. I got an e-mail saying that the request was sent. She said I was safe to make the order for the 16gb at any time and that the 8gb order would be cancelled as soon as a 'specialist' got to it.
Seems like Google needs some work on their online store, such as allowing users to cancel orders. I thought the whole point of me calling was to get them to change my order, but they can't do that either.
Either way, 16gb ordered and 8gb should be cancelled in a day or so.
I actually posted a bit earlier about my experience.
You have my less confident that they will actually do it, lol.
I canceled within the hour, but the guy I spoke to didn't do anything. :/
I don't have a Nexus 7 (yet) but I loaded it up in the default browser in the emulator (1 GB of device RAM) running Jelly Bean and it loaded. Note that it is using NeoGAF's mobile version of the page. It took a long time to load but the emulator is very slow on my ancient notebook. Can someone who has the Nexus 7 load up this thread for me:

Does it handle loading the entire page?

Consider what you are doing with the thing. Do you want it just because it's new or shiny, or do you actively think the iPad 2 is too big and would prefer a smaller screen?
I think you'll be pretty disappointed at the usability of a 7 inch display, coming from an iPad. And the app selection is really not there yet, either.

So, being an iOS user so far (no jalibreak), how suitable will the N7 be for all the emulator goodness you can't get on legit iOS?
I see people saying their andriod device is perfect for this but do they require an SD card for example?

I would've thought that you'd just need to root the N7 (kinda like jailbreak) and then you'd just copy the roms over to your N7 as you would anything else. Not even sure if you'd need root access, might work out of the box.
Ah so I could use google drive or dropbox for that?
So is the Nexus 7 just a competitor to the Kindle Fire and Galaxy Tab?
Is google not interested in 10 inch+ to rival the ipads?
If recent reports are to be believed, there's a Nexus 10 on the way.
Pretty interesting product to say the least. I'm wondering when they'll release this in non-English speaking countries :/
It sucks that you can't expand the storage via micro SD though.
Would like to get a tablet for my parents, cannot decide between one of these or a used iPad 2.
Nexus 7
+ Newer technology, fantastic screen, fast CPU, solid OS, would be brand new
iPad 2
+ More polished OS, maybe more intuitive/user friendly, bigger screen
I'm tempted by a Nexus 7 but I don't know if that's almost because I'm curious myself to see how it stacks up against my iPad and have a play around with Android, but I need to think what's best for them - any suggestions please GAF?
To me the lack of a back camera is not a loss. I think its pretty ridiculous personally when I see someone take pictures with a tablet in public. The no sd slot is what makes me hesitate. If it had one I would have already pre-ordered. Still on the fence...I'm sure once its widely available it would be harder to resist.

I'd lean toward the iPad, especially if they won't be traveling much with it (they'd probably appreciate the extra screen size). I love Android (just loaded Jellybean on my Gnex yesterday), but I'd never saddle my poor parents with an Android device, it's a bit beyond them especially when something goes wrong.
Having a back-camera is borderline useless. I mean it's taking something awkward and making it slightly less awkward. You can take picture with a front camera if you need. It's one of those things that you wouldn't ever turn down but it's not affecting anyone's purchase decision.
TBQH the back camera on my iPad is used primarily for being able to show the person I'm video chatting with the room that I'm in while being able to see what they're seeing. I agree that taking photos with a tablet is pretty absurd.

Seems that the tablet will be available at retail in Australia: http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-7-coming-retailers-down-under-soon
North America, your turn!
It's good if the tablet is being used in a business setting. I take reference pictures all the time to email. Saves me the hassle of having to dump from camera to email.
