I remember reading a thread in the Transformer section of XDA that if you hook up the PS3 controller through USB it will work (that's the normal part), the dude then found that it had then paired via bluetooth without having to do anything, and it was functioning fully.

All without root or extra apps.

Not sure if that would happen with the N7 though, or with any other device.

Please help me with my bad english
My impression after using it passing it around my family for a couple of hours: All these 7 inches tablet are going to be the craze this upcoming holiday. Holy shit!

I got my $4 Amazon case! It's closed magnetically, dunno if it's a smart cover though. The stylus holder is a bit annoying though.

Counting down the days til I'm back home, where my Nexus 7 awaits me. :(

Although hey wait... it doesn't seem to flip open into a stand. :( WTF

How'd you get it for $4? I only see $6+$4 shipping :(

It was 4 dollars plus 2 for shipping last week.
I got one too but didn't receive it yet. I figured it was worth a shot

Shucks. Guess I'll have to go caseless unless I see something worthwhile or cheap. Most of the cases on Amazon look kinda crummy unless I was paying <$10 w/shipping

Can anyone recommend a good ereader (epub) for this?

& a twitter client

Aldiko is pretty damn solid. I used it on my phone (yeah, I know... don't ask LOL) and if that is any indication, then the tablet version should be even better.

Also heard some good things about Moon+

I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Try out Plume, it's one of the heavier featured clients in the store.
I tried that one out but I didn't really like it :(
I'm clearly too spoiled by Tweetbot.

Tweet Lanes Beta APK side load.

Don't know about books yet. I've seen Moon+ Reader and FBReader mentioned a couple times.

I apologize if I sound like a retard, but how do you "side load" something?

Drop it onto the N7 and find it and launch it via a file explorer.

Or whatever Divvy said.

Side loading is installing apps that aren't on the Google Market onto your phone. This app is, but the beta has tablet support and hasn't been uploaded yet. So if you are super scared you don't have to do it. I've been using Android for 3 years now and haven't had any issues. This is how you install the Amazon App Store too so yeah...

Anyways go to Settings>Security and put a check by Unknown Sources.

Then click that link to download the APK to your phone. Once it's done downloading you can click on it in the notification panel (or in the downloads app which holds all your downloads) and it will install.

You can also drag and drop from a PC/Mac to the tablet. You will need to download a file explorer to find the file on the device though. Something like ES File Explorer or Solid Explorer.

Sideloading is the equivalent of downloading a .exe and running it on windows.

Except you have explicitly enable it, Settings > Developer Options > Allow Sideloading.

Thanks! What's the preferred file explorer app?

edit: Tweet Lanes seems pretty good! Thanks.

Still haven't received my tablet ordered on the 30th June. I received a Fedex tracking number on the 18th of July but Fedex haven't received the tablet from Google yet. So I called Google and, as suspected, it was a pointless phone call. He couldn't understand where it was but also couldn't do anything about it. He was a nice guy, so I wasn't getting nasty but I did say that the least they could do is refund the shipping as I originally paid for 2 day shipping. He couldn't do this and I am so over it, I didn't really keep pushing.

Anyway, this is the response email I received (again, completely pointless) which doesn't help get my Nexus to me any sooner.

So over this whole experience.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Google. It was a pleasure getting to speak with
you today. As promised, I've forwarded your case to a specialist in case
you don't receive your order.

If you don't receive your Nexus 7, please feel free to reply to this
email. Your responses will automatically go to the specialist working on
your case.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding.

Regards,

Kai

Loaded it up with apps after I got it yesterday and spent the whole night fiddling around with it.

I really like it. Not going to trade spots with my iPad completely, but it's definitely going to be the device that leaves the house with me most of the time. It feels every bit as comfortable as holding a Kindle (or a book, for that matter), which will be perfect for when I just want to lie back and read a digital comic or something. Won't be using it for much productivity stuff, but for media consumption it's a godsend. Really love the option of grabbing my phone, or a 7" or 10" tablet depending on the circumstances.

More specifically, I think Jelly Bean is smooth and super functional, and love how the text pops on this screen. It's a far cry from Retina display and 2048×1536, but everything looks so damn sharp that's kind of easy to forget.

Really glad I bought this.

Hmm this charging and screen becoming unresponsive thing is getting annoying. Even when I unplug it the right side of the screen becomes unresponsive in an easily replicated way. Restarting fixes but man. Does Google do replacements?

After a day of sheer hell yesterday, I finally picked up my Nexus 7 from TNT last night at 9pm. I have never witnessed such a shocking display of piss poor customer service as that of the Google Play store support.

I rang first thing in the morning to change delivery address, queued for 20mins and was cut off, I then queued again for 25mins and was promptly told I needed to speak to TNT to change it. I rang TNT and they told me Google would need to instruct them. I was then told a Saturday delivery would be possible if I get Google to get Computer2000 (the distributor) to inform TNT it was ok.

After queuing for an hour and 20mins to Google I was told that they had no idea who Computer2000 were and that would not be possible, they also wouldn't be able to change the delivery address. After 10mins a supervisor came on to say that a special team had been established to sort UK redelivery queries and that I would receive an email stating instructions on what to do, I AM STILL WAITING FOR THAT EMAIL. In the end TNT agreed that a certificate of marriage would be enough proof for me to collect it as it was ordered on my wife's Play account. At one point TNT wanted ME to pay for a Saturday delivery ON TOP of the £10 I'd already paid for 2 day delivery. For some reason Google/Computer2000 gave the instruction that NO ONE was allowed to have the orders redelivered to a different address.

I spent about £10 (would've been more if I hadn't have rang from work for that hour and a half call) on phone calls alone, but it's worth it to finally have it at home.

NEVER EVER ordering direct from a manufacturer again, well done Google, between yourselves and Computer2000, you royally ballsed up your own hardware launch.

Man I am not used to using android on a bigger screen
Feels like a big phone to me, its weird
Coming from a lg ally Droid x and gnex for the past few years
I love the bigger screen but hate added weight and bulk compared to my feather lite compact gnex.

In terms of a gun analogy gnex is like a pistol

N7 is a compact mini smg

Laptop - assault rifle / carbine

Desktop - mounted lmg

I'm probably never using this thing outside though

Gnex - outside on the go all the way

N7 - inside all day evrrry day

Laptop - srs business like money management and paying bills and banking (still don't trust android for this)

It any case it feels like a nice bigger gnex to me

Which is great

The iPad felt like a big iPhone too until the apps got better & started suiting the platform. I'm assuming that feeling on the N7 won't leave until the app situation improves.

I've just had a decent play around on my lunch and picking up my Galaxy SII felt like using an old Nokia in terms of screen size.

I've got Theme Hospital running via Corsix, loads of of adventure games on Scummvm and I'm going to attempt to use Dosbox Turbo on it later to get Roller Coaster Tycoon & other gems going.

Shame that guided view on Comixology seems to be busted on the N7 though, the screen goes black when a page transition occurs and only returns if the screen orientation is changed.

At this point, if anything has a chance to push Android software development on the tablet end, it's going to be this device. All we can hope for is strong sales, followed by devs taking notice.

standard apps look pretty ugly on the n7, scaled up and I'm getting too used to the colour saturation of the super amoled screens. i used to have desire and now gs3.
