Word, you got no line, go home.

At least you can grind the run with an above average OL. Run clock and limit the opportunities against above average offensive opponents, hopefully get a bounce or two your way and pull out a W. Heck, you may even win a Superbowl that way!

Edit: One of my first posts on NFL GAF was about the Center position and how underrated it is. Someone, doubt he's still around, proceeded to tell me I was wrong and that I should read the Blind Side. If you're still around, and you're reading this, GO FUCK YOURSELF!

guess who else was a "BPA"-style GM? Matt Millen.

This is so wrong I didn't bother reading the rest of your post. This is so completely untrue. He took Jeff Backus and Dominic Raiola in rounds 1 and 2 in 2001 when OL was a HUGE need. He took Joey Harrington and Kalimba Edwards in rounds 1 and 2 in 2002--huge needs. In 2003 getting a star WR for his new QB was the top need, so he takes Charles Rogers. LB is a big need at that point so he takes Boss Bailey in the 2nd.

The list goes on and on. Ernie Sims at #9 in 2006, Gosder Cherilus at OL in 2008, Dizon the LB in 2008 round 2, etc, etc.

The only picks over his 8 drafts that you could make the BPA argument for are Roy Williams, Mike Williams in 2005 and Calvin Johnson in 2007, but I get the argument for the Roy Williams pick and CJ at #2 was the biggest no-brainer in years. Al Davis was a fool for passing him up.

No it's Team Building 101.

Protect your QB.

Doing so protects your other investments.
If Stafford gets injured the Lion's season will be over. Johnson will pissed and want to bail on the team. Your new players will quit playing on you. The record will be sub-.500. The coach will get fired. Fans will desert you. Sponsors will pull ads. Chain reaction.

There were plenty of great value OL available but instead they drafted a guy they didn't need who had an injury history and off-the-field problems.

Dumb move. A gamble at best.

Stafford has been injured for 2 consecutive years so the Rothlisberger comparison is not apt. Ben is a fat amorphous blob and proven he can take a hit.

I agree for the most part except for the bolded statement (and the fact that there were great "OL value" when they took Fairley. Absolute garbage). Shaun Hill is a serviceable backup that can win games. As I said earlier, I don't think this is a playoff team even with Stafford. But Hill isn't going to lose you games.

By the way--Detroit's OL gave up the 6th least amount of sacks in the league last year (26, tied with Tennessee). Stafford got injured on a great hit by one of the best DE's in the entire game. I don't fault their OL too much. That wasn't anywhere near why they were losing so much last year (their secondary was horrendous).

A big storm came through here last night so they only got like 15 minutes of scrimmage in. We've had bad luck with weather during the last few family nights.
Still; are the going to show that on NFLN?

I guess not. Not much to show anyways. The local news just had player interviews and stuff last night once the storm started. I doubt they'll show any of that on NFLN.

Giants camp in Albany is definitely more fun than Giants camp at the Meadowlands.

1) This is the best I've seen Eli look early. Opened practice with a sick rainbow over Corey Webster who was almost joined at the hip with Manningham. Put it perfectly out of the reach of Web and into Mario's hands. Same thing about 10 minutes later over both Terrell Thomas and Kenny Phillips into the hands of Nicks. Got some Ooh's and Ah's on that one.

2) Whenever he was on the field I keyed on Herzlich. He looks slow. I mean it doesn't help that Da'Rell Scott was the one carrying the ball for the third team, but he zipped right past him a couple of times. Hoping his speed starts to pick up some.

3) Might see some new wrinkles (or extensions of old ones) out of the Giant O. They executed multiple running plays out of a snugs formation. They also did a lot of reps of Eli faking the ball being snapped over his head/direct snap to Bradshaw. I couldn't see since I was on the D side of the LOS but they're either directly snapping to Hixon as well or Bradshaw is handing off on a reverse.

4) No Marvin Austin, wanted to see him out there but he apparently has a hip flexor according to Garafolo.

5) I only got to see one play for Hynoski, and while it was pretty funny I think he just caught Webster off balance. It was a pitch right out of two back set (two te). The sweep is on to Bradshaw and Webster comes up and just collides with Hyno who bowls him right over. Web stood no chance.

6) David Carr is apparently still shell shocked. Ran around like a scared cat as soon as he saw some pressure.

7) Jernigan was the only one taking reps at KR. He's fast as shit

8) Tuck played rover on a couple of occasions. As has been mentioned, Kiwi is playing SAM at the moment. Did nothing really of note tho.

Last but not least:

9) Grudgingly starting to come around on JPP, dude lived in the backfield. I would love to see him play inside at DT on passing downs. With health, this DLine could be scary good.

BTW I heckled the fuck outta Antrel Rolle and Duke Calhoun. Fuck them.

Not bad, a mock a did while playing a league NCAA game. I hated to pick FreeCheese, but he was a value at that spot.

WTF? Who else was on the board when you got Garcon? Knox in the sixth is putrid. You should be looking at like Manningham, Britt, Harvin in that range. As mentioned before there is a lot not to like here.

Santana Moss, was on there along with a few others. I selected Knox based on him having the best QB that could actually get the WR the ball.

Any looks at Tyler Sash? He's been getting some major props from the media and is impressing the coaching staff from what I've read (so much so that he's been taking first team reps).

Steve Smith will be in NJ to meet with the Giants early this week. I hope he stays with a new contract.

yeah, good thing the lions didn't use a high draft pick on an OT. instead they used it on a DT. can't blame them though, they really needed a presence in the middle there.... needed a playmaker at the DT.... someone who could disrupt the other offense and bring an attitude to that defense...

We're talking about Martin Mayhew not Matt Millen. Mayhew goes with BPA approach which is the way to go. Plus the offensive line group this year was weak.

As for Stafford even if he does get hurt I still think we're a playoff team with Shaun Hill at the helm. We've got so much talent at the skill positions and with playmakers like CJ81 and Jahvid Best all you need is an average/solid QB like Shaun Hill.

Add to that we have one of the five best defenses in the league and I guarantee a wildcard seat.

All that changes if Suh gets hurt though.

I keyed on him a few times but there wasn't anything of note. He played in the box a bit late into practice and he did take first team reps. A bunch of the guys that had been there more regularly were also saying how good he has been.

Former Giants WR RT @RavensInsider: Raiders signed WR Derek Hagan

Thanks for everything Hagan. Fuck the Raiders tho. First McClain, then Boss, now Hagan.

What's the deal with Maclin? I hadn't heard anything about him and then on the bottom line tonight ESPN has something about him having to deny that he might have a career threatening illness.

All I have heard is he has mono and yesterday reid said he would be ready for game 1 of the season. He has also been doing conditioning drills everyday and they are hoping to have him back practicing soon.

for the record i like shaun hill and feel we were stupid to trade him but i have to disagree here. shaun hill is a good backup qb that can fill in for a half or even a game. he doesn't have the arm to get a team to the playoffs. if all he had to be was a game manager then yes. if you put shaun hill on the jets they would pretty much be the same team. but the lions don't have the defense or the running game for shaun hill to be able to make the playoffs with his pedestrian numbers.

Now you're just trolling.

Best defensive line in the league - Check.
Above Average LB Corp with the addition to Tulloch and Carpenter- Check.
Young but Solid Secondary- Check.

In no order I see the Steelers, Ravens, Jets and maybe the Packers? Eagles secondary isn't going to do shit with that horrible defensive line and LB corp.

Hill didn't have the playmakers on the Niners like he does on the Lions. And include the turnovers our defense will force it's going to make his job a hell of a lot easier.

All of this is irrelevant though because Staff is going to stay healthy and lead us to the playoffs.

Can anyone tell me about Andre Carter, and BB sure loves old vets.
The Redskins let him go because he doesn't fit in a 3-4, but he is a solid 4-3 end. Had 10 sacks in 07 and 11 sacks in 09 playing with Haynesworth. Good against the run despite being a bit undersized.

...are you saying the Lions secondary is better than the Eagles?

No, he's saying their front seven suck. It didn't affect Nnamdi all those years with the Raiders with no help, but it's pretty clear that's what he meant.

Sounds like a solid signing by the Pats. The last two signings probably means Brace is gone, and I think Merriweither is going to be on the way out.

Steelers and Jets don't really have suspect secondaries.

Both have holes that an AGod tier QB would exploit, but I wouldn't consider those amongst the suspect ones.

Bullshit. Any secondary that had William Gay starting is suspect. Any secondary that is exploited by Bruce Gradkowski is suspect. And all the Jets have is Revis (who also benefits from the pass rush, but is good nonetheless).

Dolphins secondary is arguably better than Jets secondary. Depends who you're playing really. But if I was playing a balanced offense with more than one WR I'd take the fins.

The Steelers disguise their deficiencies in the secondary by having a ridiculous front 7, but I don't know how you could call the Jets secondary suspect.

Unless you want to call every secondary in the league suspect, which is (admittedly) a reasonable way to think about it given how defensive holding/PI is called.

Our 3rd and 4th corners last year were a huge weakness. 3 out of the 5 games we lost last year were directly due to poor nickel and dime play.

Anthony Madison (our dime back) is gone this year and Gay was only resigned for one year. Everyone is expecting him to be camp fodder.
