Detroit needs to sign a free agent OL or Stafford is going to be injured in the first game. Right now, Tony Ugoh is one of our three available starting tackles. Of our two starting tackles, Backus has a torn chest muscle and Gosder Cherilus still isn't recovered from microfracture surgery.

Tony Ugoh may be our starting tackle. TONY UGOH.

i believe he could beat the seahawks.... how are the saints doing?
Hopefully they are doing better now that they have some ways to stop the run.
The offense was fine. They put up 36 points, but if you let the Seahawks put up 41, well I think you see the problem is on the other side. Because of what they did the year before, Saints fans pretty much overlooked that game. Niners fans know what I'm talking about here.

Can't Cover Brown...

On the strong side of the Defense,
There’s an empty Giant hole,
If you run a post, you’ll find the end zone
past a man named C C Brown...

Now C.C. means “Can’t Cover”
And he’s awful against the run,
All the Quarterbacks look for his number
then receivers burn Forty–One,

And he's bad, bad, C.C. Brown,
Starting now, since K-P’s out,
Burnt like Cheech and Chong...
Jerry Reese what have you done?

Now C.C. is a gambler,
And he like his I-N-T’s,
About to celebrate his clutch pick 6
But his alarm wakes him from his sleep...
He over-commits on the play fakes,
Cover 2 – he's supposed to stay home,
When the corner releases, you won’t believe it
But C.C.'s not in his zone...

And he's bad, bad, C.C. Brown,
Better off with Aaron Rouse,
Supposed to play next to M. Johnson...
But never quite where he belongs!

Well Sunday, a few days ago,
C.C. missed some reads,
But Marques Colston, Shockey and Lance Moore
All were read by Brees,
Well Drew kept his eyes on him pre-snap,
'Cause he knew he’d always beat him,
C.C. Brown never learned his lesson
And the play fake to Robert Meachem...

Seven touchdowns later,
The Saints embarrassed C.C. Brown,
Fans were expecting, he’d learn his lesson
And he’d be traded out of town.
October 20 came and left us,
With C.C. still in blue,
How much longer, before Kurt Warner,
Picks on C.C. too?!

And he's bad, bad, C.C. Brown,
Why not just play with a man down,
Never is where he belongs...
Gambles and he’s always wrong.

Yes, and I am regretting saying it, but the damage is done.

Nothing personal it just one of my pet peeves about the internet, when one takes an obviously attractive woman an proclaims her as average or worse. I should have just taken a breath before responding.

yeah, good thing the lions didn't use a high draft pick on an OT. instead they used it on a DT. can't blame them though, they really needed a presence in the middle there.... needed a playmaker at the DT.... someone who could disrupt the other offense and bring an attitude to that defense...

Just accept it - Stafford is already dead.

That defense is still crap outside of the Suh Ez Canal or Roar Wall or whateverthefuck they're calling it.

No offense but I think that's a pretty weak team. I'm assuming it was 12 man? I mean those receivers are WEAK. Same with RB3. You have an elite QB, RB1, and TE. Other than that your players are very mediocre. Blount might have a stellar year, but that seems high for him.

hmmmm..... you do know he's walking around with a boot on his foot right? no telling when crabcakes will be back

Johnathan Joseph is really impressing at TC for the Texans. Now I know why the Bengals DB coach was so pissed they just let him go.

It almost seems like the Bengals fuck up on purpose.
Nothing else explains it.

There was a great article about how fucked up their front office was. Crazy stuff like hiring family and only having one scout.

Mayhew is a BPA-style of GM and the talent of the OL in this draft was garbage. Solder and Castonzo were borderline 1st-rounders.

Fairley's value as a DT was light years ahead of Solder's as an offensive lineman. If I was in control and had to redo that draft 100 times I'd still take Fairley.

I think Pittsburgh's success last year proves you don't need a great OL to win. The only question is if Stafford can stay healthy. I guess we'll see this year.

I won't be shocked at all to see Detroit pick up a couple veteran OL that are cut after camp to come in and challenge for a job.

QB Mark Sanchez was 5-of-16 in 11-on-11 drills. CB Darrelle Revis had a nice break-up of a pass to WR Santonio Holmes. On the next play, Holmes rebounded, catching a quick slant route on CB Antonio Cromartie.

super bow

Thats a pretty damn big IF. With a QB who has shown huge potential but in two years has shown a major issue with staying healthy commen sense says you reinforce the O line to protect him.

Picking Fairly was picking the best available, not for need. Debate rages on which one is accurate.

If you're a step away from the Super Bowl then I agree--draft for need. But Detroit isn't there yet--I don't even think they're a playoff team. They need to load the roster with talent and then plug the holes. OL is obviously the last thing Mayhew wanted to fix--my guess is their 1st-round pick this year is OL if one is good enough.

As I stated earlier, the problem was that the talent in this year's draft just wasn't great. To me, they were borderline low 1st-/high 2nd-round picks. Just not a fan of any of them and I don't think they'll be above average--definitely not worthy of a 1st-round pick. A dominant front 4 can definitely make up for a lackluster back 7 and that's clearly what they were hoping for.

Maybe Detroit thought they'd snag someone in free agency and it didn't pan out. Who knows. All I know is that their first game is against Tampa Bay and Bowers/McCoy coming in for Stafford scares the living daylights out of me.

Now is an exciting time to be a Panthers fan. We will be good this year.

It will be interesting to see how well Sean McDermott does as their defensive coordinator. McDermott had potential in Philadelphia, but there were some games where he seemed to show an inability to make the proper adjustments. I wonder how much of the onus falls on him and how much of the problem was due to poor/injury-ridden personnel.

guess who else was a "BPA"-style GM? Matt Millen. whether you think the o-linemen were overrated for that spot or not you guys need massive help on the offensive line. it's true a dominant defensive line is huge, but not having an offensive line is going to negate that advantage. what's the point of having a good defense if your QB is getting put out for the season time and again? then the lions take another wr in the 2nd round with some decent o-line talent still on the board? then they take another RB in the 2nd round? i just don't get their draft strategy when they have neglected o-line for so long.

No it's Team Building 101.

Protect your QB.

Doing so protects your other investments.
If Stafford gets injured the Lion's season will be over. Johnson will pissed and want to bail on the team. Your new players will quit playing on you. The record will be sub-.500. The coach will get fired. Fans will desert you. Sponsors will pull ads. Chain reaction.

There were plenty of great value OL available but instead they drafted a guy they didn't need who had an injury history and off-the-field problems.

Dumb move. A gamble at best.

Stafford has been injured for 2 consecutive years so the Rothlisberger comparison is not apt. Ben is a fat amorphous blob and proven he can take a hit.

He drafted Charles Rodgers 2nd overall. It doesn't matter what your "style" is if you're an idiot.

Totally agree. Offensive line is the most important part of any team. It's much easier to win with a middling QB than a sieve for a line.*

here's the quick and dirty on los jets. we sucked 05, herm left us for dead in 06. john abraham was injured, everyone was injured. vick torched us for like 4 combined tds one game. that year sucked.

then we traded away john abraham to the falcons, got a 1st round pick. everyone wanted Cutler or wanted to trade up for Reggie Bush, we had the 4th pick. Tanny stayed put and drafted DBrick. Every Jet fan groaned. Then with the 29th pick Tanny went oline again - Nick Manigold. Thanks to the cupcake schedule we went 10-6 in 06, but it was all smoke and mirrors. Pete Kendall (our LG) pulled an Osi in 06 and we ended up trading him before the start of the 07 season. Bad idea. We had a turnstyle at LG that year and Chad Pennington got hurt thanks to Juice Head Seymour. We ended overpaying for Faneca (gave him a 42 million contract) in the 06-07 offseason. Mangina finally realized how important it was to have stability on the line. Also picked up Woody on the cheap to play tackle. Both moves worked out. We had one of the best lines in 08, 09. Coincidentally the start of our "successful" seasons.

Starts with the line. You build from there.
