WHAT TO WATCH FOR - Green Bay Packers

Offense:
1. Jermichael "HoFinley" Finley is going to cement his place in the hall this year. His QB chemistry has been building all off-season. #YOTTO #blockingTE
2. The Packers have 27 RBs, yet Kuhn will still be used on 3rd down. They'll only have 2 100-yard rushers for the entire season as Big Mike cycles through his backs trying to find the "hot hand."
3. Rodgers will hold onto the ball and get sacked all season like the bitch he is while trying to deflect blame. The media will still love him as he puts his phony belt on the shelf next to the trophy he didn't win.

Defense:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

I didn't forget to put something there - I'm just counting the number of TDs the defense will allow each game.

I suggest you take an official vote and attempt to change Jermichael to Jermajesty.

What to Watch For: 2013 New England Patriots Edition

msdstc already posted his, but hey, the Patriots are so awesome, why not have two?

Quarterback- The main question going into the season will be whether or not Tom Brady can develop chemistry with his rookie receivers, something he has been unable to do with previous high draft picks at the receiver position, like Chad Jackson and Taylor Price. So far it seems like he can, especially UDFA Kenbrell Thompkins, who has quickly become one of Brady’s favorite targets. Can Ryan Mallett show enough during the preseason or during mop-up time in the regular season to fetch a high draft pick on the trade market? After investing a third round pick in Mallett in 2011, the Patriots certainly hope they could receive at least a 3rd, if not a 2nd round pick for him. As for Tim Tebow, does he make the team and if so, do his mechanics improve or is he only able to function productively in a read option style offense? The team may be grooming Tebow to take over as Brady’s backup in case of a Mallett trade, so Tebow’s ability to command the offense without erratic displays of inaccuracy is paramount.

Wide Receiver- After letting Wes Welker and Deion Branch walk in free agency and cutting Brandon Lloyd, the Patriots’ juggernaut offense suddenly had many question marks surrounding it. In response, the Patriots drafted 2 wide receivers- Aaron Dobson in the 2nd and Josh Boyce in the 4th- and brought in Danny Amendola during free agency on a five year deal, as well as signing UDFA Kenbrell Thompkins, who appears to be a lock for the 53 man roster at this point. The Patriots hope that Dobson can stretch the field vertically in a way than recent free agent pickups Chad Ochocinco and Brandon Lloyd failed to do. Behind Amendola and the rookies are likely the resigned Julian Edelman, who needs to stay healthy to ensure his spot, and special teams maven Matthew Slater, one of Belichick’s favorite players on the team. Mark Harrison is a likely practice squad candidate, if he can remain unclaimed off waivers.

Tight End- Aaron Hernandez is gone. Rob Gronkowski is recovering from back surgery and is a candidate for the PUP list, which would sideline him for the first six games of the season. Behind Gronkowski are Daniel Fells, Michael Hoomanawanui, Jake Ballard, and UDFA Zach Sudfeld. At this point, Sudfeld has emerged and seems destined to make the team, while the others are essentially blocking tight ends with some pass catching abilities. Hoomanawanui also operates as the team’s full back, so he is likely to make the team, and Ballard’s roster spot is likely tied to whether or not Gronkowski starts the year on the PUP list.

Running Back- Stevan Ridley will remain the lead back and came to camp with added bulk. Behind him is 2011 2nd round pick Shane Vereen, who will take Danny Woodhead’s 3rd down back role and who will also be used as a Joker much like Hernandez had been the past few years. Leon Washington is a veteran presence whose main contribution figures to be on kick return, an area the Patriots have struggled with for years. Brandon Bolden and LeGarrette Blount are likely fighting for the final spot and both can make a strong case. Bolden ran hard last year before his suspension and plays special teams, while Blount had a strong preseason game against the Eagles, including his crazy 51 yard zig-zagging touchdown.

Offensive Line- Left Tackle Nate Solder looks to make another step forward into elite territory during his third year in the league. Resigned Right Tackle Sebastian Vollmer needs to stay on the field in order to continue his dominant play. At Left Guard, can Logan Mankins recover from a (relatively) down year last year? Ryan Wendell looks like the Center of the future and should be in line for a healthy extension after a breakout 2012 season, in which he played more snaps than any other player in the NFL. Incumbent Dan Connolly and Marcus Cannon are battling for the starting Right Guard position, though both are currently sidelined. Prior to his injury, Cannon was having a great camp and seemed likely to assume the starting role. Overall, the offensive line is arguably the best in the league and returning all five starters from last year should only help them continue to be so.

Cornerback- Aqib Talib was resigned to a one year deal and both he and the Patriots are hoping he can put together a healthy, impactful season. Opposite him is Alfonzo Dennard, the 2012 7th round pick that had a great season last year. His situation is very fluid at the moment though, as he is dealing with injuries, a potential DUI, a potential parole violation, and a potential suspension. His season is very much up in the air. Kyle Arrington was resigned to a four year deal in the offseason and will man the slot, where his play was significantly superior to his past performance on the perimeter. Unfortunately, Arrington is likely to start opposite Talib should Dennard be unavailable. Perpetually injured Ras-I Dowling and Rutgers rookie Logan Ryan provide depth.

Safety- Devin McCourty will remain in his Free Safety position, where his strengths are accentuated. Adrian Wilson, Steve Gregory, Duron Harmon, and Tavon Wilson are all competing for the Strong Safety role opposite McCourty. It’s likely to be a rotation between Adrian Wilson and Steve Gregory to start the season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Harmon is the starter by the end of the season, since he has the size Gregory lacks and the coverage ability that Wilson lacks.

Defensive End- Chandler Jones and Rob Ninkovich return as the starters. Jones is hoping to build on his impressive but injury-marred rookie season. If all goes according to plan, he should come close to doubling the six sacks he posted last year. Ninkovich is looking for an extension and could be rewarded with one midseason if his strong play continues. Behind the starters are 2012 UDFA Justin Francis, 2012 3rd round pick Jake Bequette, former Browns player Marcus Benard, former 2nd round bust Jermaine Cunningham, and this year’s 7th round pick, Michael Buchanan. Benard is likely to make the team in the role of designated pass rusher a la Mark Anderson in 2011. Cunningham and Bequette are both disappointments whose roster spots are not guaranteed. Francis was a pleasant surprise last year, but needs to become a more consistent player if he want to remain the 3rd pass rusher.

Defensive Tackle- Vince Wilfork remains the 2nd most valuable Patriot behind Brady and his new mate is Tommy Kelly, the formerly dominant Raider who is coming off a down season. Behind them is nothing but question marks. The depth at this position is dire. CFL import Armond Armstead is a candidate for the PUP list as he recovers from a viral infection. It’s possible he is getting the “Foxboro Flu” treatment and 2013 will be something of a redshirt season for him. 2012 UDFA Marcus Forston and 2013 UDFA Joe Vellano seem to be the most likely depth players to make the team.

Linebackers- Elite against the run but woeful in pass coverage, the drafting of Jamie Collins in the 2nd round and the return of Dane Fletcher should help out the linebacker corps considerably. Jerod Mayo returns as the quarterback of the defense along with Brandon Spikes and second year player Dont'a Hightower. Spikes is looking to show he can be a reliable three-down linebacker in his contract year, though he's likely to be replaced in nickel packages. Collins already seems like a potential stud, showing off exceptional speed and lateral movement, as well as strong pass rushing abilities. He's likely being groomed to take over for Spikes. Fletcher's return is being underrated, as he was easily the Patriots' best LB in coverage in 2011.

Specialists- Kicker Stephen Gostowski is on watch. For what he is getting paid, he needs to become far more consistent lest the team go with a cheaper option next year. Zoltan Mesko is in a battle with UDFA Ryan Allen and despite Mesko’s incumbency and general awesomeness, the competition appears far from settled.

Malcolm Floyd carted off the field. Sounds like right knee injury. Not good for Chargers.

Edit: Sounds like he's going to be gone for awhile. Shit, didn't see nightz post.

I always forget about iapetus. Usually only ever saw him to defend jacksonville's ticket sales or to ban handegg trolls.

Shut up Miguel! I swear Iapetus was trying to bait me to say something before a Texans/Jags game last season.

despite the mediocrity they still have the largest fanbase.

Well they do own all that gear and there is hope that one day Jerruh will run out of virgins to keep himself healthy. Stay sfe gata!

I forgot Gata is also a Cowboys fan, so you are not ever truly alone.

I really don't think there is a question to the fact that Tebow is going to make the team. Bill will find uses for him because hes not a dumb fuck like Rex and their season is over if Brady went down anyway so you might as well have a backup who can contribute to the team even while Brady is healthy.

They wouldn't be designing plays for him to run in an offense and they wouldn't have signed him in the first place if they were just looking for a traditional backup, especially when they already have Mallett.

Did anyone see Skip Bayless declare Clowney the best pass rusher in ALL of football? That includes NCAA and NFL.

Skip gonna be Skip, insert Stephen A. Smith image.

Clowney is one amazing athlete though. Scary that he hasn't even grown into his frame yet.

Agreed. McDaniels has a plan for him, some of which we saw when the offense dramatically changed when he came in. If they weren't going to keep him around they wouldn't have gone out of the way to implement that offense.

Well, he is.

Clowney is the greatest who will ever play in the NFL. Honestly, LT (The Giants one, trained by Bill Belichick) couldn't even hold Clowney his jockstrap right now and he's still just in college. Clowney will be the first player to ever get 30 sacks in 1 season and will shatter every defensive record.

Sure fire HoF'er already.

Yep, he's like the Johnny Manziel of pass rushers.

We need to work on your possessives. It's Clowney's jockstrap, not Clowney his jockstrap. As in, that jockstrap belongs to Clowney.

Giants fans are great here. As much as it pains me to admit because of the average Giants fans I encounter in the wild, they are probably the best of the bunch. Besides us of course.

It's pretty much just Future and Striker carrying the weight as Wellington kinda disappeared.

As for me, I'm currently gung ho on cfb, and will update you with all of the Pats future draft picks from Rutgers next year.

Don't worry Pats fans, there's really one guy that is draftable this year and he'd be worth the first rounder
.

Apparently you have forgotten about nemesis and the various MLB posters who soil our threads when the Giants are playoff contenders.

anybody excited for Fox Sports 1? I like some of the people they got over there but I'm not sure if I would choose Fox over ESPN.

I think Fallout New Vegas killed my brand new PS3 and I'm pissed. I hate it when a console breaks down, especially when its brand new. Ever since I installed that game my PS3 would sometimes randomly skip and eventually freeze from Dark Souls to Netflix.

I was playing Dark Souls and the game starting freezing and skipping. I turn it off this morning decide to let my PS3 cool down and uninstall FO NV, but everytime I turn on my console it freezes 3 seconds in at the exact same moment everytime. My internet went down today due to dumb ass roommate not paying the bill, so I'm hoping it may be that.

Gonna call Sony, if that doesn't work Gaming Side thread time.

Steelers need Tight Ends, pick up nothing...

Nothing out there. Steelers need blocking tight ends to serve until Miller gets back. Stupid to take a glorified WR like Clark or a meathead like Shiancoe. They'll probably just line Beachum up in the red zone.

You talking shit now but when the broom comes and we sweep you aint shit going to be said.
Haha. Both teams will split on their way to 6-10.
