NFL 2014 Week 14 |OT| Best In The World

The definition of unnecessary roughness:

"if a player illegally launches into a defenseless opponent. It is an illegal launch if a player
(1) leaves
both feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and
(2) uses any part of his
helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/”hairline” parts) to initiate forcible contact against any
part of his opponent’s body."

Browner is a tall dude. He did not leave his feet to make the hit, and the hit was made with his shoulder, not his helmet. But okay, let's have the people in this thread who side against the Patriots 100 times out of 100 lay down the lawn on what is an illegal hit.

Now you are cherry picking the rule book?

1) Forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him;

Russell is solid but if Stafford has that running game and defense he gets just as far.

Look at Golden Tates stats this year as opposed to when he was a Seahawk. Wilson has a different, obviously more mobile version of the game but I'd still take a traditional pocket passer over the more mobile QB in the league.

Stafford is IMO the best traditional pocket passer in the league under 30. Luck is the only one that comes close but even his passing ability is subpar compared to Staffords IMO.

Even if you believe Stafford is a better passer than Russell, he'd be on IR by midseason behind our O-line. Russell's mobility and improvisation are crucial to our offense working.

What am I supposed to be seeing here that proves this should be a penalized hit? Because I see this image, and it's clear that Browner's helmet is not touching Green's helmet.

...or let the law lay down the law

pulled from an old article on the subject:
Rule 12, Section 2, Article 8 (g) of the NFL Official Playing Rules states that it is unnecessary roughness if the initial force of the contact by a defender's helmet, forearm, or shoulder is to the head or neck area of a defenseless receiver who is catching or attempting to catch a pass.

Rule 12, Section 2, Article 8 (h) of the NFL Official Playing Rules states that if a receiver has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself, a defensive player is prohibited from launching (springing forward and upward) into him in a way that causes the defensive player's helmet, facemask, shoulder, or forearm to forcibly strike the receiver's head or neck area -- even if the initial contact of the defender's helmet, facemask, shoulder, or forearm is lower than the receiver's neck.

niners held the eagles offense scoreless and we were playing with quite a few backups so the eagles offense isn't really difficult to stop. they didn't even cross the 50 yard line against us until 4 mins left in the 4th quarrter.

they depend on defenses either getting worn out or getting confused because of the hurry up. if you're in good shape and have somewhat smart players then there isn't really any difference from other offenses. it still comes down to the eagles players beating their guys or not beating them. against the seachickens they didn't, so their offense stagnated.
Talk about his defense with injuries and forget our offense had injuries.

Not intentionally, I just didn't see that while searching for unnecessary roughness, but I guess that's fair. To me, it didn't look like he hit Green in the neck, it looked like he hit him in the shoulder. Maybe it's a pro-Patriots bias, but if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I look forward to having this same conversation with you all when it's the Patriots receiver being hit in this way and you all contort to find ways to prove the hit was legal.

you were without 2 or 3 linemen. we were without our starting DT, starting CB, 2 startings LB's. so all other things being equal (they weren't, but lets just pretend) you still had 0 offensive points and crossed midfield one time in the game. i'd say that's pretty dominant

Bro, I root for the Steelers. If anyone knows these shitty rules, it's me.

Well of course you're allowed to knock Patriot players senseless. What kind of league do you think this is?

Man, I don't think James Harrison has a single unnecessary roughness penalty this year. The Steelers defense is truly broken. :(

I'm not afraid to say it. He's got his own personality of course, and it might be abrasive at times. He's always been nice to me, so I consider him a friend. He might only be here for Manning, but nothing I can do about that. At least he admits it I guess.

Yet if he had garbage stats against garbage teams you'd never let him hear the end of it.

He has had garbage stats against garbage defenses. He did what a good QB should do against the Bears and Bucs. Not what a great QB would have done which is the bullshit Kas preaches on a daily basis. I'm fine with him saying the Lions on a whole are having a good year. Buy that Stafford taint licking gets old.

Meh.

The only question I have about this game is when we're calling the UN for the crime against humanity that's about to happen to the Falcons.
