NFL 2014 Week 7 |OT| Newton's Laws of Football

You want a good looking game but you don't care about something that affects how good it looks?

I understand resolution isn't the end all be all for some people but it has a place, otherwise we wouldn't be using HD TV's.

If it's a matter of 1080p or 60 fps I will take the framerate, though.

I still play some Dreamcast games at 480p through the VGA box that look good. Hell PSO looked good through s-video.

So, is Bill Simmons just not going to cover the NFL anymore? I expected him to takeover the weekly picks column again, but Bill Barnwell has his column up. Wouldn't surprise me if he just turned his back on the league.

Awakening is baby's first FE. Fire Emblem is my favorite video game series.
Sure, Awakening isn't as balanced as the other entries in the series. I've argued about this far too many times on GAF so I'll just say I find your opinion to be very extreme. If you play the game on Hard or Lunatic without the intention of breaking it wide open by grinding it's right in line with the other games in the series in terms of difficulty and complexity. It's unfortunate that the game can be broken but that's basically every RPG ever if you're willing to put in the time.

I adore the older FE's but Awakening is my favorite.

I'm somewhat busting balls. I had a great time playing it with my girlfriend. Characters are great. It is by no means my favorite though.

A very LONG and detailed breakdown about JJ Watt's overall play. I read the whole thing, giggled at all the GIF breakdowns included and then wondered where the hell are the other 10 players on defense if he is doing all this.

Seriously, right now when you watch this guy you are watching a once in a generation talent evolving and playing so far ahead of everyone else its mind boggling.

Watching the game last week I was reminded of Troy Polamalu, specifically in the 2009 season opener against the Titans after the 2008 Super Bowl win.

He was unreal. It didn't seem humanly possible to be doing the things he did on the field that night. Then he got injured.

Troy was still great after that game, but he wasn't the same. Something in him said he couldn't keep going at that pace the rest of his career I guess. Right now i'm wondering when that will happen to Watt, especially on a Texans team that relies so heavily on him.

Remember when Bill Simmons said he was going to "go public" on the NFL if he got suspended? And when people actually believed him? :jnc

I like Barnwell but he doesn't even write about all the games. Simmons will at least have an email for the ones he skips or something.

It’s normally a problem if your right tackle disintegrates into ash in front of you on third-and-7, right? Not so much if you’re Cam Newton.

New Jersey legislature passes bill to partially repeal prohibitions on sports betting:

The future of American sports betting is again in the hands of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

The New Jersey Assembly passed new sports betting legislation by a 73-4 vote Thursday and sent the bill to the governor. Assembly Bill 3711, which also breezed through the Senate this week, partially repeals the state's prohibitions on sports betting, paving the way for casinos and racetracks to begin taking wagers upon the governor's approval.

Christie has 45 days to act. If he signs the bill immediately, New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak says he'll be ready to place an NFL bet at Monmouth Park as soon as next weekend.

It could happen but right now Im going to sit back and enjoy watching this kid play. Troy has a first ballot entry into Canton so I wouldn't say his career was not successful and remember the crazy shit he did and not the former shell he may be. As I stated I don't get how he can be such a focus of opposing team offenses and yet no one single other player can do anything.

Watt is 25 years old. A couple years ago I said he would go down in Houston sports fan favorites in the top 2. He has surpassed Earl Campbell, Nolan Ryan, Biggio and Bagwell and Dre. he is right behind Olajuwan only because Dream has two rings.

Yes, in response to a hypothetical scenario where all Xbone games were 480p
I'm taking Mech's argument to the logical extreme that resolution literally doesn't matter at all which is inherently stupid. If you personally don't mind the difference between 720 or 900 or 1080 that's fine but it doesn't mean you have to act like higher resolution doesn't equal a better looking game. It isn't the only factor nor the most important one (that's art as bionic pointed out) but it is a factor nonetheless.

As the FIFA king, I would welcome you with open arms to the King's club.
Whoa whoa whoa. Hold your horses, big boy!

I saw a Deadspin (?) pieces talking about this. Simmons is under contract until next year, so if he steps out of line, ESPN can just silence him for as long as they want. That would be really bad for him. Maybe he won't resign come '15 and then come clean?

Silence him? It's 2014, he could post whatever he wanted to Twitter, Youtube, etc. Let's be honest with what this is. Simmons was just talking out of his ass and at the end of the day he isn't going to do anything to upset the absurdly cushy deal he has with ESPN.

You're right to enjoy it. It's amazing.

That said i've always been a bit fascinated by the inevitability of it. All freak athletes do come down, by some hook or crook. Some by injury, (or in the Troy's case the threat of injury) or team struggles. Whenever I watch Watt I wonder which will befall him. My guess is the rest of the Texans - he'll figure out that going 13 all the time isn't winning them any more games and dial it back to 10.

Busy doing NBA previews with Jalen Rose right now. The first few eps have been fantastic.
