I think the Eagles defense may actually be pretty good this season. Billy Davis was the worst.
He should have been fired after his first season with the Eagles. I think Davis was Chip Kelly's biggest mistake. Now he's going to have difficulties hiring anyone to coordinate his defense. Davis made it look like Kelly will always have shitty defenses because of his philosophy. Maybe it's true, I don't know, but Davis made everything 10x worse. There is no question in my mind the Eagles will be at worst an average defense next season. There is too much talent on all levels.
I am also looking forward to getting Hicks back. Seeing Jacorey Shapherd actually get a chance to play will be interesting.
There is also no way that Kiko Alonso will stay as shitty as he was after the ACL injury last season.
Schwartz was prepared to use him last season in Detroit.
Barwin - Cox - Logan - Graham
Alonso - Hicks - Kendricks
Carroll - Thurmond - Jenkins - Maxwell
I think it will be interesting to see how the Eagles improve their secondary. I'm also not sure if Thurmond will be back. The Eagles really need to bring in a good nickel corner to take responsibilities off Malcolm Jenkins and allow him to do more in the run game. It will also be interesting to see if Ryans is gone. I think he's done.
I'm excited too, I think Schwartz will bring an aggressiveness back to the D that's been missing, and we have a lot of talent on the line. Letting Cox run wild will be fantastic. I kinda agree, I this defense should conservatively end in that 12-15 range, and optimistically reach toward the top 5-7. Although I think we'll retain Curry, he was made for a 4-3, and we really need a pass rusher. I'd move it around to be Curry - Logan - Cox - Graham/Barwin. Barwin could be trade bait though, he doesn't quite work as well in the 4-3 as the 3-4, which would be a shame. He has the versatility to be used as either a DE or LB in a 4-3, but I'm not sure if that will be worth his contract.
Also, assuming Jacorey Shepherd does as well as he's supposed to, he was apparently doing great things in the Nickel CB position, so hopefully he can actually fill that role. Having to use Jenkins in the Nickel and leave Maragos as the second safety was rough. I think if we don't bring back Bradford, we can retain Thurmond as well. That's the rough part, if we let Bradford go, we could lock up our defense for a while. And most of them are young as hell, so it's exciting. We need depth pretty much everywhere, and I'm wary of Kiko and Kendricks, but the future looks pretty bright for the D at least. If we can lock up that talent, then we can spend the next two years addressing our myriad needs on offense
Damn that's awful. Cancer is just wrecking people in 2016. RIP way too young
