Free market, cost of education, malpractice, various other overhead (hospital fees, nurses, PCAs, techs, all whom are licensed as well).

The only way to get cost down is to subsidize the education of future healthcare workers and go to a single payer system.

Unless RBH and rando are going to public state schools for their undergrad and med school......they're both close to 300k in debt outta med school.

EDIT: I can give you another example of why the system is fucked up, hospitals are making this push for "Magnet" status, that means you have X amount of nurses with BSNs and show you're good at X and X. Well its all bullshit, its cheaper for hospitals to get rid of their EXPERIENCED nurses without their bachelors and replace them with fresh outta school BSNs (Private school BSNs....lmao I would never pay $120k for a nursing degree). An ADN at a community college will cost you $5k or so, 20-50k at a public school BSN and $120k for a private school. So in essence, hospitals have driven the cost of nurses up because they want their nurses with bullshit education that has nothing to do with nursing other than how to manage nurses.
Thats a lot of words to explain "for profit system".

Everyone wants to give the best care (well maybe except for insurance companies) but the goal is to make as much money as possible. That doesn't make health care providers bad. Most are awesome and a lot do shit for free or near to it (see Medicaid reimbursements for doctors).

But its expensive as fuck because thats how capitalism works.

You don't have to watch every single one...hell I'd be all for cutting the season in half, and have said so before.

Do you watch every round of golf on the PGA Tour?

Of course not, but they're for the most part self contained. I don't really care about the fedex cup standings. I watch as many rounds of the Majors as I can though.

That said, I do enjoy going to baseball games, spending time outside with friends, eating and drinking beer at the parks. It's a good time. I just happen to think that watching baseball on TV is more boring than watching paint dry. At least when watching golf they have the option of jumping from player to player, there is so much down time in baseball, that while fun at the park, is awful on TV.

Football is the opposite, it's much better on TV than at the stadium, this, combined with the fact that the season is 16 games makes it much easier for me to get excited and care about. It's the nature of the sport. I think both the NHL and NBA seasons are entirely too long as well.

It's why I get really excited for the World Cup. For the most part I like watching sports/tournaments where each game is hugely impactful. If you can go on a 10 game losing streak and still be fine, I probably don't care to follow that sport very seriously.

I think baseball being 162 games is one of the only things that I like about it. It fills the void left after NBA/NFL playoffs during the summer and then the playoffs are on when football comes back.

Yeah totally on board with the single payer system reducing costs through efficiencies and reduced overhead.

Not sure about subsidizing medical education as reducing overall costs though. Seems like it would just shift the cost burden from the individual to the government. They need to figure out a way to regulate the costs of higher education. Honestly the whole collegiate system needs an overhaul away from "the college experience" to being purely an academic institution. Too much is spent on amenities and other bloat but there's no incentive to stop as long as federal grants and loans are guaranteed.

Single payer doesn't really make sense to transition to from what we have. A heavily regulated multi payer system ala Switzerland makes much more sense given our current institutional health policy structure.

Individual mandate, heavily regulated price controls for non-profit health insurance companies and government medicaid like plans to cover low income individuals, subsidies, etc...

Swiss are required to purchase basic health insurance, which covers a range of treatments detailed in the Swiss Federal Law on Health Insurance (ger: Krankenversicherungsgesetz (KVG); fre: la loi fédérale sur l’assurance-maladie (LAMal); ita: legge federale sull’assicurazione malattie (LAMal)). It is therefore the same throughout the country and avoids double standards in healthcare. Insurers are required to offer this basic insurance to everyone, regardless of age or medical condition. They are not allowed to make a profit off this basic insurance, but can on supplemental plans.[3]

The insured person pays the insurance premium for the basic plan up to 8% of their personal income. If a premium is higher than this, the government gives the insured person a cash subsidy to pay for any additional premium.[3]

The universal compulsory coverage provides for treatment in case of illness or accident (unless another accident insurance provides the cover) and pregnancy.

Health insurance covers the costs of medical treatment and hospitalization of the insured. However, the insured person pays part of the cost of treatment. This is done by these ways:

by means of an annual excess (or deductible, called the franchise), which ranges from CHF 300 (PPP-adjusted US$ 184) to a maximum of CHF 2,500 (PPP-adjusted $1,534) for an adult as chosen by the insured person (premiums are adjusted accordingly);
and by a charge of 10% of the costs over and above the excess. This is known as the retention, and is up to a maximum of 700CHF (PPP-adjusted $429) per year.
In case of pregnancy, there is no charge. For hospitalisation, one pays a contribution to room and service costs.

Insurance premiums vary from insurance company to company (health insurance funds; ger: Krankenkassen; fre: caisses-maladie; ita: casse malati), the excess level chosen (franchise), the place of residence of the insured person and the degree of supplementary benefit coverage chosen (complementary medicine, routine dental care, half-private or private ward hospitalisation, etc.).

In 2014, the average monthly compulsory basic health insurance premiums (with accident insurance) in Switzerland are the following:[12]

CHF 396.12 (PPP-adjusted US$ 243) for an adult (age 26+)
CHF 363.55 (PPP-adjusted $223) for a young adult (age 19–25)
CHF 91.52 (PPP-adjusted $56.14) for a child (age 0–18)

The swiss have the best healthcare system in the world and we're currently basically copying the model, albeit with flaws.

There's no such thing as nonprofit, one of my hospitals I work at is "nonprofit" but fuck do they cut back as much as they can. For example, the ED is full, why? Because they were forced to send nurses on the floor home to save money.

Most doctors are doctors because they are passionate about medicine, but if you tell them that they're only be making $80k a year after 15 years of education/residency/fellowship and 300-500k in debt, about 70% of them will find careers elsewhere.

Neat. Brandon Weeden getting re-signed takes care of the backup QB front.

I'm still amazed he performed as good as he did after he got waived from Dallas.

Basic healthcare should ideally be provided by the government.

You would be shocked how different things are in the UK and in other counties that have a government system in place. Over there if some 500 lb fat fuck comes in with back problems and heart issues the doctor will give them a book on dieting, a P90X DVD and slap their fat ass and wish them good luck on their way out the door. In the US the fat bastard will be treated by several specialists routinely to control their diabetes, heart disease, sexual dysfunction and back pain. All of whom will prescribe expensive medication and routine tests that will continue to amaze us with the diagnosis of too fat. This is mostly profit driven. There are obviously exceptions to the rule but you should never be surprised shit is too expensive when it is run for profit.

For someone like me who has good insurance I prefer the American system assuming I can get a good doctor. If that scenario our system is the best. But where our system fails is in providing healthcare to the poor. Of course our county in general sucks at taking care of the poor so why should healthcare be d different? Maybe that is what makes us American.

The voters don't really know what the fuck they want and I don't know which healthcare plan would be best for America, not being an expert in health care or being a fat fuck, so I won't pretend to be an expert on everything and just continue to be happy that I don't currently need to see a doctor.

The only person you don't want to see more than a lawyer is your doctor. He might keep you alive but the odds are really stacked against him actually fixing what is wrong with you. The same applies to a lawyer. You go to us or a doctor when shit is falling apart and you want someone to salvage the situation. Neither of us actually fix shit...

I have great insurance (well I have two plans, if one isn't covered by one the other will cover the other), I don't have a problem with our current system but cosign with what you said. The poor are fucked, I'll go with your 500lb fattass story and add to it. Most of the time these fatties will lose weight initially and gain it all back, why? Psychologically they're still fatties, they need psych help. Just because they can't eat as much in one sitting doesn't mean they'll still devour everything in sight.

Right, never said anything about reducing hospital staff salaries! Just saying that the costs of getting an education in medicine have to be reduced on top of being heavily subsidized by the federal government.

Elway asking Kap for 50% pay cut makes me think either Josh McCown or Brian Hoyer will be Broncos starting QB. Not an April Fool's joke, BTW

My gawd! If this happens...

Uhhh Buttfumble>>>>Hoyer, that would never happen.

Why are you constantly trying to rain on my parade? This is what is called "QB hell". I have lived in it the past few years. You sign as many middle of the road to meh QB's and hope someone sticks

Sometimes you get unknown hope (Mallett) or potential (Osweiler) and hope something turns up. Both Sanchez and Hoyer are known commodities: garbage.

There have been so many Baby Gronks over the years, are we talking about Fake Gronk, Scrub Gronk, or Wannabe Gronk?

Hint:
all 3 are Travis kelce

Baby Gronk. The youngest Gronk brother, who we will draft with our second round pick, if Bill is smart.

Yes but Sanchez is garbage from Beverly Hills whereas Hoyer is burning garbage from Compton. I know you want to get a kick out of watching Bronco fans try to sell us on Hoyer (much like you did with Mallett) but that's not realistic when they have the better option of Sanchez, unless Sanchez goes down, Hoyer won't see the field. And I firmly believe that the Broncos will draft a dude early anyways because like I said all of the above options are still garbage.

Can he play cornerback? We need someone to help Hero Butler.

Probably

I wish we could clone Super Bowl Legend Butler. That would be sweet. I don't understand how science hasn't figured it out yet. We can fly, watch color television everywhere and can even send pictures of our penises via our phones that then magically disappear.

Why is cloning so hard?

Shit is shit. Mallett had an unknown factor, Sanchez is known shit. And when he goes down he does down in glorious fashion:
