NFL investigating the Patriots on possible deflated football allegations

Oh this is serious...

I saw it in my Facebook feed on some junky third party blog site and thought it was fake but ESPN picking it up too? Well now....I'm pleasantly not surprised at this allegation.

This is no more serious than me stubbing my toe against my chair.

I just stubbed my toe.

I can't wait for the headline after the super bowl.

"New England being investigated for scoring more points than Seattle."

All the salt and tears in here is pretty great. All this deflated football talk will do is just fuel them for the SuperBowl like the spygate crap has fueled them since then.

Haha. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

Of course the NFL will sweep this under the rug to keep the Cheatriots merchandise gravy train rolling from their bandwagon fans.

Someone is salty as fuck.

You don't win 45 to 7 by using under inflated balls that the other guy would also get to use. You win that hard by being a better team...I get this and this is coming from someone who doesn't even watch football.

Yet, the Pats had to have another advantage no matter how insignificant.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty, or is that just thrown out the window with you because the thumb tack strings on your wall all tangle towards a clumsily scrawled drawing of Bill Belichick humping Goodell in a bathroom stall.

This isn't criminal law.
The pats are convicted cheaters.
This is the nfl pursuing this, not salty colts fans.

This is my view. If the score was relatively close, then it's certainly worth looking into. But for a blow out? Move the fuck on.

What makes you think they didn't do the same thing against teams that matched up well against them?

I always thought that was a basic human right, what do I know though. Saltiest person in here anyways is an Eagles fan, which I get but come on, let it go.
Would it be ok if the raiders were found to be cheating, or would that be cool because they are a bad team?

The integrity of the game and the rules actually matter.

Now, even if this is all true, on the impactful cheating scale of 0-100, this is probably a 2.5. But saying it's ok to break a rule because the outcome would have been the same is pretty asinine.

Colts have been salty before and made a fuss out of it (mugging receivers and all that), but I have to doubt that they are the ones really pushing this story. They got destroyed and they know it. They squandered their few opportunities and didn't come up with anything else.

Having said that, I think if there is suspicion of cheating, it should be looked into, regardless.

Didn't know anyone had been found out to be cheating myself, I just keep reading about these accusations being made but it's monday so that's par for the course.

Let me get this straight. Out of a press pool of hundreds at the game…thousands who cover the league…ONE league worker knew about what the Pats were doing and told only ONE member of the media. That person JUST happens to be a former beat writer and current TV reporter for the team who got destroyed by a longtime rival. Seems totally legit.

This story will get no traction whatsoever. "Not salty" is right.

NFL is investigating, nobody has been found to have been cheating.

Talk to the nfl with your concerns about why they are investigating.

The NFL has confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

I'd rather talk to the people who seriously believe this since that is more realistic than me discussing anything with the NFL.

The NFL has confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

I'm well aware. They seem to be more open to investigating a lot of things because of the scrutiny they have been under this year.

What makes you think they didn't do the same thing against teams that matched up well against them?

Are there allegations that they did? I don't follow the Patriots. It's my understanding that this was a one-time thing (assuming they actually did what they're being accused of)

Today I read that neither teams have access to the balls before the start of the game. So that would require paying off the staff who is in charge of that. Then you would need to have balls for each team.Deflated ones for the Pats then regular ones for the Colts. that would require keeping track of them all game, also how would the refs not notice? they constantly are handling the balls, and should be able to tell.

I feel like everybody hates the Pats and will make crap up after they have a big win.

That's because the referees either don't understand the rulebook or aren't calling it substitutions on purpose. If they classify it as "formation" (which it isn't, it's a substitution in the rulebook) then the defense doesn't get time to react.

The refs at the game are some of the best in the league. Do you really think they don't know the rules?
Illegal formation is when you don't have 5 ineligible men on the line in the middle with two eligbles at the ends with a minimum of seven on the line. Illegal substitution is typically when you have too many men on the field.
