This is purely a rumor but curious what Bears, Pats and Browns think of this.

"8:39PMest:3/22/12:**UPDATED NFL RUMORS**Sources: Matt Forte is obviously unhappy with situation in Chicago -n- now 3 teams have emerged in "Exploratory" trade talks. Cleveland Browns have made contact with the Bears & are showing interest in the *Pro Bowl RB* (Forte), my source is saying interest is real high at this point. Also Patriots & Bucs have called about Matt today (Pats are willing to give up 2nd but not a 1st) - Bucs interest is not as much at this point, Tampa source is stating the call was just to see if Forte is available (Could get more involved later in the week) Bears are not asking for picks or players yet, but that could change before the week is over. In closing the Jets are not interested!"

I am going with my wife. She is the one that introduced me to the books. I would be going to the 1st one no matter what, I didnt like the 2nd as much and I think the 3rd was terrible, but hopefully the movies will improve on those 2.

The jest should be interested! Just trade Timmy, and let qb controversy reign in chi town.

Yep. The level of punishment was commiserate with the crime. I'm more curious to see what Goodell does to the players involved. If the players get a slap in the wrist while the coaches get the brunt of the wrath then the entire ordeal is laughable to me. There's no question the coaches facilitated and perpetuated the existence of the program but it's not like they put a gun to the head of Vilma or other players involved and said "You better injure this guy". These are grown ass men that are fully capable of saying "No coach, that's wrong". They do have a union for a reason last I checked, right? They have people they can go to if they felt what was going on wasn't in the spirit of the game.

I expect Vilma to get the worst of the punishment as far as the players go for that $10,000 bounty.

I'm tired of all the people who say "but everyone does it!". I'm sorry but does that make it right? And if you get caught doing it, are told to stop, but still continue to do it, you are basically a child that crosses their arms and says "Make me!".

If I get caught speeding, I'm still going to get a ticket even though everyone does it!

I almost got excited but I'm sure Holmgren or Heckert will deny this all together in a matter of days. :(

Also NFL-GAF brethren, I turn to you:

Who should I be following on twitter in regards to NFL news. As of now I only follow Adam Schefter.

If you're interested in lions news, I hear anwar Richardson is fairly decent in getting news quickly.

His writing style for mlive, on the other hand, is atrocious.

incarceratedbob. He broke Manning to the Broncos you know.

Football:
Or are you telling me he's just trying to hug Favre really strong like?

Taking the Vikings out of it, I think there is a difference between just playing the game and intending to injure someone. If a baseball pitcher threw nothing but fastballs at a guys head all season long (like absolutely nothing but bean balls to the head all season long), would it not be a crime if he finally hit him in the temple and killed him?

Can I beat somebody to death with a hockey stick if I can somehow get the puck lodged in his mouth first?

Pass, I'm a Browns fan. No need for Lions info. But thanks though.

Thanks for these, minus those dirty Pats writers.

Haha throw enough shit on the wall some of it is bound to stick. I remember him being pissed off at Leafs fans (hockey) back during the NHL trade deadline, he promised to fuck us up with some rumours but nothing came out of it.

I'd trade Forte for the Browns 2nd first round pick this year. Doc Emery do this!

That's an extreme hypothetical and I think it misses the point a little. You're preaching to the choir. Of course there's a difference between legal play and going after someone intentionally. In this case, there's no question wrong was committed and the players should be punished and IMO more harshly than the coaches. (I've already said as much).

Having said that, if you're screaming righteous indignation about assault or crimes committed, then what would you propose? Should they be arrested? Is it that severe?Moving forward, should Goodell regulate intent moreso than he's even doing today? How much of a detriment is that to the game? You could make the argument that the hit I posted on Favre could have been avoided/be less violent in execution. It would be a good argument as the hit could be considered excessive by many. If you make that argument though or say hypothetically the player who put the hit on Favre were heavily fined and singled out, I'm willing to bet that a large contingent of posters here would scream their own righteous indignation about the pussification of the league. We've seen it time and time again. Hell, I've done it more often than not.

What I'm getting at is there's a culture (cue Cajun culture jokes!) embedded in these players to deliver these big hits (with or without bounties), whether it be to get on a highlight reel or get their ego stroked by their teammates and that may be at the cost of the health of the player on the other end of it. The intention, in many cases is *not* to injure but unfortunately its a consequence. To some extent football fans are guilty as well. I never want to see a guy injured but I love to see a big nasty hit that puts a guy on his ass. How do you regulate the intention of that hit? Goodell has tried to do that in the past couple of seasons and fans have given him copious amounts of shit for doing so and doing it inconsistently at best.

Can you? I don't know the limits of your strength.;)

Okay, I guess I misunderstood you. I disagree with the idea that assault is impossible while in the midst of a sporting event, but it doesn't sound like you're saying that.

Is ass slapping and nut punching on the football field sexual assault?

There have been a couple of assault charges filed in NHL games over the past decade. Clearly it's possible.

However, when willingly participating in a sport you are agreeing to accept the rules of said sport. When things outside of the norms occur, participants generally accept that the league itself will handle it. Football players aren't frightened abused women, they don't need to be forced to press charges. They simply prefer to handle things within the sport. I have no problem with it.

Wasn't the bounty system based on legal hits?
Adorable.

I know, but I'm just looking for an answer.

If you go by what the Saints say, sure.

But their head coach is a drug addict, their general manager is a lying cheat, their former defensive coordinator is a dirty weasel, their owner is a dick, and their QB is a self-righteous douche.

I wouldn't go by anything the Saints say. You know shit's gotten bad when Jeremy "Asshole" Shockey
allegedly
has to step in and blow the whistle.

I follow Steelers beat writers mostly, though tbh most of them are garbage.

Careful, man. I don't want you to get caught up in the lawsuits that are about to start flying from Shockey's ass.

Giants-age, what do you guys think of an early round tailback for the team? Not necessarily a 1, I think we need OL help first.

Ultimately, I trust Reese's decisions, but I would like some insurance in case Scott/Ware can't cut it.

I think there is a very strong chance that Jacobs will be back, and I think he will go BPA.

Look at the market for known quantity running backs. It just doesn't make sense to me to spend a top 3 pick on one when they can be had for so cheap.

Guys who pay each other money to seriously injure other guys are unlikely to give any shits about the legality of the hits that do so.

All valid points, I suppose, but what I'm driving at is that how would you police this policy on the field? It doesn't make sense for a player to go out of their way to injure a player because that would incur a penalty, fine and possibly suspension, which would dwarf the reward they receive. So optimally you would take players out with legal hits, which presents the real problem: you would either redefine a legal hit in such a way as to eliminate danger of injury, which is pretty impossible or being extremely vigilant on team policies to ensure this doesn't occur again, which would require more oversight from the league on team operations.
