A proposed Las Vegas Raiders stadium would cost taxpayers a record $750 million.

A proposal by 22nd-richest man in the world, casino magnate and owner of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sheldon Adelson, would fund a domed stadium in Las Vegas with $750 million in municipal bonds. According to Bloomberg, that would be a new record for public contributions to an NFL stadium, surpassing the $620 million in tax money that went to build Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

There is an alternate proposal, supported by the Nevada Governor’s economic adviser, that would require “only” $500 million in public funds.
The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee is studying the proposals, and is expected to issue its recommendations next month.

Here is the part where a pro-stadium person runs to the comments and says “Hey, wait, the $750M in bonds will be paid back by an increased hotel tax. As a Las Vegas resident, this won’t cost me anything!” And here’s the part where we note, for the 750 millionth time, that tax money is fungible. If the legislature approves a hotel tax hike, that money could go to literally anything—even things that are actually useful to a local economy. (The committee currently has on its desk proposals to fund transit improvements and an expanded convention center.)

It's amazing how much public money these owners get to swindle based on the lie that removing a team does irreparable harm to a city's economy or worse yet simply playing to people's fanatical emotional attachments to said teams.

*Full Disclosure: I currently live in a city that is currently renovating not one but two sports stadiums using sizable public commitments. One said commitment was made under the impression that it was necessary to secure the NBA All-Star Game which may or may not end up being played here because the governor, 65% of the elected state officials and a significant amount of the populace of this state are FUCKS.

Fear of a GAF Planet
A couple of things on Vegas. Firstly, there was already a proposal for a billion dollar domed stadium for UNLV that would've been completely paid via taxes. Second, Mark Davis isn't uber-rich like his peers. Lastly, the mob will be breaking any legs of voters who go against the will of the casinos.

Morning people work 11 hours yesterday and i close today.. Kill me.

For as much as the EU wants to become the US they don't share a common language, majority religion, common pop culture, military, and the foundations for a strong nationalized government.

Plus they have kinda members with things like Norway in Nato and the Swiss having their hands in everything and acting as a center base for much of the greed related issues.

Compact that with a low cost labor problem combined with massive migration, terrorism, and communities that don't encourage integration and you have the current mess you have now.
Yup.. It's too decentralized. Nothing really in place to force everyone together be it culture or a mechanism.

I mean the US has a common enough culture (of no really unifying culture overall with the various backgrounds. But a culture nonetheless) and we fought a war to keep the country together.. Unified compared to the friggen Euros.

Which are?

Should I watch Finding Dory or Central Intelligence?

I didn't know Bionic had a practice in Texas
That's disrespectful.

I made my fortune keeping the Cowboys players out of jail (back when they were good in the 90s).
So you were team MVP back during the 95-96 season right?

Just 3 more hours of this damn work day to go..

Still no AC in this place, its hot as fuck right now.
Man I am sitting out side on a 110 degree day waiting for the car wash to finish. I can't believe that a place in Vegas doesn't have indoor seating. This is so miserable.
