I was at work when the news first broke, but after getting home I compiled some stats to inform some of NFL-GAF about Stafford. Most of NFL-GAF, like ESPN and the NFLN are sleeping, ignoring and/or just haven't watched Stafford played the last two years. We all troll here and there, but he's the 6th highest paid QB in the league for a reason. Put Stafford on the Texans and they're in the Superbowl.

Here are some stats from the past two seasons against various QBs from various divisions who are all considered better than Stafford (lol):

Matthew Stafford (25 Years Old): 65 Total Touchdowns (Passing+Rushing), 33 INTS, 10,005 Yards, 61.65% Completion Percentage, 88.5 QBR

Joe Flacco (28 Years Old): 46 Total Touchdown (Passing+Rushing), 22 INTs, 7427 Yards, 58.65% Completion Percentage, 84.3 QBR

Ben Roethisberger (31 Years Old): 47 Total Touchdown (Passing+Rushing), 22 INTs, 7342 Yards, 63.25% Completion Percentage, 93.55 QBR

Eli Manning (32 Years Old): 56 Total Touchdowns (Passing+Rushing), 31 INTS, 8,881 Yards, 60.45% Com. Per., 90.05 QBR

Matt Ryan (28 Years Old): 64 Total Touchdowns (Passing + Rushing), 26 INTs, 8896 Yards, 64.95% Completion Percentage, 95.65 QBR

Jay Cutler (30 Years Old): 33 Total Touchdowns (Passing + Rushing), 21 INTS, 5352 Yards, 58.4% Completion Percentage, 83.5 QBR

Drew Brees (34 Years Old): 91 Total Touchdowns (Passing +Rushing), 33 INTS, 10,653 Yards, 67.1% Completion Percentage, 103.45 QBR

Look at how much younger Stafford is compared to all those QBs, and keep in mind since Jahvid Best went down our running game has been absolute shit compared to all those QBs I listed. Give Staff someone like Matt Forte or Ray Rice or Michael Turner and his stats improve even more. Not only that but he doesn't flinch under pressure, and has had at least 6 comeback victories in the final minute in the last two years.

Stafford in his first playoff game, at the age of 24 on the road against the Saints.

28/43, 380 Yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs, 90.0 QBR

Stafford has the "it" factor that separates the elite QBs from the rest of the league. I honestly thought the last two years would be enough to convince most NFL fans about how talented this guy is, but as a franchise Stafford has the additional burden of getting over the "lol Lions" stigma our team has earned since Barry retired.

You conveniently left out the fact he took over the worst team in NFL history, the 0-16 Lions. It takes time for a 20 year old to turn things around, and he has much quicker than most anticipated and we were a playoff team in 2011.

Also despite his athleticism, Stafford can't play DB or RB. It's a team game, and combination of injuries, lack of running game and the defense failing to produce turnovers like we did in 2011 doomed our 2012 season. We've made steps to improve that, and even with out #2, #3, #4 WR and our #1 TE going down we still had a Top 5 offense statistically.

We're only 2 months till the season begins - you'll all be believers soon enough. I don't know why you're not already considering the stats I just posted but the Lions franchise has to overcome the losing stigma like the Saints and the Cardinals had to recently.

In that time he took a 0-16 team to 4-12. Way to go Stafford! Such improvement!

No, he took an 0-16 team, turned our offense into one of the most explosive and a playoff team in 2011, and for the reasons I stated the 2012 season fell apart. Things like that happen in the NFL. One year you're on top of the world, the next year injuries and bad luck will decimate your team.

It doesn't change the fact we have the best 25 under QB in the league, with one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. Add in Reggie Bush who will make defense respect our running game, and a healthy WR corp and our Top 5 offense has the potential to be the best offense in the league.

I know its scary for Packers fans to contemplate, but get used to it.

Do you actually watch football games or just look at fantasy stats afterward?

You don't think the Lions being down in virtually every game they played granted Stafford the opportunity to slang the ball not only more frequently, but also against lax defenses playing prevent coverage?

Stafford had 727 pass attempts last season. Even Drew Brees would blush at that shit. He set a record for pass attempts in a season, no duh he's going to accumulate a lot of meaningless yardage.

It doesn't change the fact we have the best 25 under QB in the league...

What was their record last year?

Also, the Lions haven't been "on top of the world" is 60 years.

Look at the stats. Who is a better 25 and under QB in the league right now? Wilson, Luck, Kaep and RGIII haven't even played 20 games yet.

He set that record because we had no running game to speak of since Jahvid Best went down in 2011 Week 6. When Jahvid Best was destroying defenses with draw plays, screens and passing plays out of the backfield we were 5-0 and about to be 6-0 against the 49ers until he had the final concussion that probably ended his career.

Te only record that mattered last year for Detroit is 4-12

No they're not, and the stats say otherwise. They just happen to play in bigger markets and get more attention. When they perform two seasons in a row like Stafford has then maybe we can have this discusssion.

Let's flip the script for a second though. Everyone wants to bash Stafford out of fear or jealousy, but why exactly is he not worthy of being the 6th highest paid QB in the league? He's only 25 years old, has unbelievable Quarterback ability in terms of arm strength and accuracy and his stats without a running game to speak of put 90% of the league to shame.

Stafford is the definition of a mediocre QB who gets hyped up by a fanbase that has never had solid QB play.

He inflates his stats in garbage time being down multiple scores. He has won ONE game against a team over .500. He has the best offensive weapon in the game catching jump balls.

This is factually incorrect, if only due to the fact none of those QBs have even played 20 games yet. Check the stats.

If you put Stafford on the 49ers or Seahawks they're automatic favorites for the Super Bowl.

Fatford is what he is, fat.

RG3, Luck, Wilson, and Kaep have all been to the playoffs.

The Seahawks and 49ers are already Super Bowl favorites. Stafford would hurt their chances.

Want to know what's really stupid and transparent? Creating an arbitrary category like "quarterbacks under 25" that will contain only young players, then saying that the young players don't have enough experience to belong on the list.

kas is right that the Texans would have been in the SB had he been the QB. I wish Stafford took care of himself better, and I think he needs to concentrate on his mechanics, but I would say the biggest issue in Detroit is the coaching. They would also be wise to let Suh walk. JJ Watt had the best season I've seen from a defensive linemen and it didn't matter b/c the offense sucked. There's only so much a DT can influence a game, and they can't be making 15m a year

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Not really true.

His stats are inflated more because they don't have a running game. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he ends up throwing 70 times in a game.

holy shit someone is defending fatford?

I've been very clear about my views on Stafford. I even criticized his throwing motion and bad decision making earlier today.

That doesn't make him horrible, though. Middle of the road in the NFL right now? Probably.

I can totally agree with that.
