I thought the genius didn't want players on his defense who were capable of starting on other teams?

Don't the Pats prefer guys who could barely play in high school?

yeah that's evident from the fact that the pats never fielded a good defense or drafted any good defensive players in the past 10+ years

never go full gata, bionic.

To be fair it's a lot harder to play defense when you don't know what the other teams plays are or when you are not playing the Bills (I was going to say Mark Sanchez too but he did alright against the pats).

The bad thing is the Steelers seem to he adopting the Pats strategy of fielding an entire defense with no talent.

Seems like the Steelers have just been following the Pats defensive strategy for over a decade now, maybe you guys can catch up and get rid of all your old men this offseason.

The difference is the Pats were smart and spent nothing on their bums.

Whereas we pay ours like they are pro bowlers.

So I wouldn't say we copied the Pats.

I think the Eagles should be very interested

Eagles and Colts are probably the two most realistic contenders in my opinion. Not sure if Byrd would really want to go to cleveland after buffalo but hey the browns have like 60 mil in cap and without TJ they could make him an offer he can't refuse!!

ok so we agree, pittsburgh is a terrible place and franchise and the pats are great
Wrong.

We are the best run franchise in the league. Thanks to the Steelers we have minority coaches, Obama and the cherry on top is the 6 Superbowls. We were also a pioneers in PEDs.

And while Pittsburgh is not the greatest place to live I will still put it over Florida (imagine living with 30 million Gata's) or shitty as Boston. I could take living with that many Bill Simmons wannabes talking about baseball.

Bionic, you know I respect you and the Steelers organization too much to compare it to Florida. We all know how terrible things are in Florida, be it sports franchises or residents of the state.

I miss football.
It's the only thing that keeps the miscreants out of trouble.

Time to check in on the 2013 offseason thread. What was I up to?
Fucking great that GAF is the #1 image hit on Shame Towel™.

You guys are the Florida of the North East. Racist, bad drivers, terrible accents, and fish markets. I should be a little more grateful, since I'm black and managed to survive in FL this long. But I'm just telling it how I see it.

The Raiders have a ton of money, not just that they can spend, but that they have to spend to get to the minimum. The talent on offense is pretty bad in the FA market. But the DB market is good. Sign Byrd, Ward and Verner. Go nuts. Pick up a couple of OL. They will have to give out insane money b/c that is what bad teams have to do to attract FAs. But those guys are all young and it's not like the next staff couldn't use them

I keep reading those articles that say the Colts are loaded this off season as well lol.

Pretty deceiving considering Luck will be due his $20 million a year soon. Same for TY and Freeman who I expect to get paid. :'(

The Raiders have the money to build the kind of Defense DA wants. They don't necessarily need to give out crazy money but they have to give the right amount to the right players. It's better to sign two smart DBs who have quietly done well than make a big splash with somebody. I'm curious to see what RM does, there are alotta rumors flying around

NFL_DRAFT_Bites @NFLDraftBites
Dennis Allen wants finally implement attacking D. Won't be 34 but will have 43 Under/Over Fronts. Compare vision to Eagles 'Predator' D.

Also a rumor we might try to nab Jacoby Jones, as well as the DBs I mention earlier. I think we're going to make some surprise moves and grab some players but I don't necessarily think it's going to be a Jared Allen (who is getting old), it's going to be more on versatility.

NFL_DRAFT_Bites @NFLDraftBites
Raiders focusing DL versatility. Guys can play 34/43 fronts. Emphasis moving varied package. Not looking sign LBs interested everywhere else

Those two are from the same source but i've been hearing that rumor everywhere.

Exactly. Allen too if he stays healthy. CLE also needs to roll over cap room to sign Haden and account for Ward or Mack's money should they re-sign. I'm not trolling, but OAK has no one on the horizon needing big money. They really can go out and buy a team and not cripple themselves in any future year. They can get young, in their prime DBs this year. It's just going to cost

Byrd is the best FS in football besides Earl Thomas. Ward and Verner I think are more fit guys, so they kind of depend on the defense Allen runs. But I don't think Byrd is just chasing a name. As long as his health checks out he's a good signing

Eagles' signings of Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper could signal a DeSean Jackson trade

The Eagles are not going to shop Jackson. The instant they do, they'll forfeit any negotiating advantage they may have in trying to recoup acceptable value in return. This is especially true with a personality like Jackson, who comes with a history of character concerns. However, if another team came calling, the Eagles certainly wouldn't laugh and hang up. There's an opinion among some in the Eagles organization that Jackson's personality is not a great fit with the locker room culture that Chip Kelly is trying to cultivate, and the Eagles could be open to trading him.

I agree with that. But like...Byrd isn't the only safety out there. We have Tyvon Branch who is healthy now and is generally a beast. I'd like to see Usama Young return as he looked good when we played him and then we'd have some good safeties. I'd love Byrd and we can afford him, I'm just not sure if we will make a play for him.

Full list of items to be discussed by Competition Committee

1. Chop blocks, roll blocks, downfield cut blocks, and peel-back blocks, which can injure defensive players.

2. Protections for read-option quarterbacks while in the pocket.

3. The “hands to the face” penalty, which could expand to encompass quick blows to the head in addition to the current prohibition of pinning the opponent’s head in a sustained manner.

4. Low hits on defenseless players, specifically receivers while catching a pass.

5. Taunting and fighting penalties, to ensure players are treating each other with respect.

6. The point-after touchdown, which could be eliminated.

7. Playoff expansion, which would add a No. 7 seed in each conference, eliminating the bye for the No. 2 seed in each conference.

8. The instant replay system, which could be adjusted to mirror the college system (where the replay official makes the decision) or to adopt the NHL’s approach of centralized review.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/02/murphy-details-competition-committees-indy-agenda/

Fisher was on Eisen's podcast, and I'd look for the "player behavior on the field" to get some big rule changes. They won't say it but the Sherman taunting thing didn't go over well. Replay won't change much other than the Bowman play would now be reviewable, and emphasizing holds and illegal contact by DBs. Basically nobody liked that Seahawks team it seems haha. The league wants scoring to go up, not down
