jnc, you are not serious.

I think in the process of pumping up the Eagles and insulting the Patriots you lost the thread of your argument. What do free agents want? They want to be paid, to win, and to be part of a good team. The Eagles may be more willing to pay for free agents than the Patriots, but they're not a profoundly younger team, for whatever that's worth. Yes, Foles is younger than Brady, but he's also nowhere near as good of a player and I don't think any free agent safety has ever chosen a new team based on the age of the team's quarterback.

No idea what a transition tag is but general mood in here and by commentators is that it was a good move by the Browns? I'm going to have to do some reading.

Yes QB age is not a real factor, but I would think that the Pats window closing due to Brady's age would be a factor. When I said the Eagles were a young team I meant their core group is mostly younger guys, while the Pats core group would be older. Obviously the cheat gets rid of players who want to be paid and replaces them with rookies, see Welker, Wes, and that artificially lowers their overall team age.

Team can match any offer when a transition tag is in place.

Basically Browns told 31 other teams: do it. Someone has to pay him so much the Browns cant/wont match

Artificially lowers their overall team age :jnccccc

You've outdone yourself once again.

Breaking Down Eagles' Salary Cap Situation Heading into Free Agency:

The Eagles currently have $123,775,568 committed to 2014 salaries. That leaves $9,224,432 left in cap space, plus an additional $17,169,768 in rollover money from the previous year. That means the Eagles have approximately $26,394,200 in available salary cap space for this offseason. That ranks the team 12th in the NFL, according to Spotrac.

Veteran wide receiver Jason Avant is expected to be cut within a few days. He is owed $1 million on March 15th as a roster bonus. Don't expect him to be around to claim that money. He's scheduled to make $3.96 million in 2014, which is way too much money for a receiver who will be 31 years old coming off his worst season since he was a rookie. Factor in the re-signing of both Maclin and Cooper, and there's simply no way Avant is on the team in 2014.

Safety Patrick Chung is a virtual certainty as a roster cut. He was probably the worst player on the team in 2013 and is scheduled to make $3.25 million in 2014. The Eagles can cut him with no cap hit. He's as good as gone.

So if the Eagles had $26,394,200 in salary cap space before they make their offseason cuts, they should have between $33 and $38 million after cuts. That will give the team plenty of options to sign some prized free agents if they should choose to do so.

They will have a ton of money to play with if they chose to go the FA route.

The "closing window" at the quarterback position is just another way of the media to extend dialog and have a "told you so" piece when something happens.

It's not the NBA. The passer is either efficient or he isn't.

I've only been back for a few days and I managed to enrage the Frozen fans. God help me.

Good. The fans of that film are annoying. It was an average flick with great animation, art style, and one memorable song.

Good family movie, but it doesn't come close to Disney or Pixar's best. Freaking nerds mang.

But whatever, with Russia threatening with World War 3, I'm probably nuked to shit before the season even starts, so who cares.

Plead you allegiance to us.

They won't fuck with us!

Just kidding, they're Russians

So we probably couldn't agree on how much he was worth, letting other teams dictate what the going rate for a Centre such as him should be? If it's something we're unwilling to pay then he's off? Seems pretty fair to me.

Brady will be 37 before next season starts. Will he still be efficient at age 40? If not then he has at most a 3 year window left. The fact that his numbers dropped off last year has to be some concern that he might not even have 3 good years left. This whole discussion was about a top FA signing with the Pats, if you are a 27 year old Safety would you want to sign with a team that might be looking for a new QB in 2 or 3 years? That was the whole fucking point. I already said I didnt think he would sign with the Eagles, but him signing with the Pats seems like crazy talk.

Basically

So looking at the 'old' core of the Pats :

Offense: Vollmer, Solder, Mankins, Brady, Gronk, Verreen, Dobson?

Defense: Mayo, Collins, McCourty, Jones, Ryan/Arrington/Dennard and maybe Vince (but after the injury who knows).

That's a bunch of old man for sure.

I don't even dislike the film whatsoever. It's madness.

If the Patriots make the best offer? Sure. If not, no. It's just an overcomplicated issue.

Exactly. I dont know how the whole siging FAs never works got started. Hell in 2004 the Eagles got TO and Kearse in the offseason and made the SB the next year. The Giants signed Plax as a FA and he was great for them. There are tons of examples of FAs doing well for their new team.

Yup. Without that Booger McFarlane signing in 06. We don't become the second coming of the Steel Curtain and win the SB.

Average age 28 years old. so 3 years higher then the average on the NFL website. I have no doubt that the Eagles core would be lower but that really wasnt even the point. The age that matters is Brady's and he is getting old by NFL standards for sure.

So free agents should avoid the Patriots because of that? Would you advise free agents against signing deals longer than two years with the Broncos as well? It's not like the Patriots and Broncos are going to disappear when Brady and Manning retire.

If I was a Fa no way in hell would I sign with the Broncos. They are most likely 1 year away from Brock as the QB and being a 4-12 team. Manning carries that team, without him they are going to be terrible, unless they get super lucky with a QB. I think the Pats are in the same type of situation unless you believe Mallett is the real deal.

Nespresso is a one button press as well, it is just a lot better than Keurig.

Addictive as fuck. Me and my wife need that shit everyone morning.

I did the Eagles list just for fun, obviously they dont have as many core players as the Pats do but I think this is a decent list:

Barwin 27, Boykin 23, Cole 31, Cox 23, Foles 25, DJax 27, Kelce 26, Kendricks 23, Mathis 32, Shady 25, Peters 32, Maclin 25.

Average age 26 years old. Slightly younger but really not much, so I will concede that point. The Eagles as a team are not much young then the Pats overall or in their core. They are younger at QB though and I still think that matters the most.
