Seahawks GAF, we finally have common ground! I applaud this man Pete Carroll!

Pete Carroll asking NFL to clarify legality of hits on QBs on read-option handoffs, after Sam Bradford hit
When Sam Bradford got hit low by Baltimore’s Terrell Suggs this past weekend in an exhibition game in Philadelphia after handing off on a read-option play, Pete Carroll felt it across the country at Seahawks’ headquarters in Renton.

The referee flagged Suggs for roughing the passer Saturday night. Monday the league’s director of officiating Dean Blandino told its network Suggs should not have been penalized because “it’s not a foul by rule.”

That’s precisely what Carroll wants the NFL and Blandino to clarify in time for the regular season that begins in three weeks.

In fact, Carroll was coming off the practice field on his way into his office this afternoon to call the league to ensure it was doing something to address what Carroll sees as unnecessary hits on quarterbacks.

Carroll’s interest in the subject is obvious, given how much Seattle runs quarterback Russell Wilson on read-option handoff-or-keep plays so much during the regular season.

“I have seen a couple of them and I really thought they were worthy of being noted as penalty plays,” Carroll said of such hits on QBs, most recently by Suggs on Bradford. “Obviously we’re really tuned into that.

“We’re counting on the league to do a really good job of doing that well so we take care of the QBs. You can force this thing about they’re a runner. When they don’t have the ball in their hands and the ball is already handed off and gone, guys need to make good decisions, hopefully. So we’ll be very much part of that discussion if things continue like it’s going, because it’s not right.

“We have been involved with that discussion with the league since Russell has been here. We’ve had the running quarterback and we’re really tuned into that. I’m anxious to see what comes of it because certainly it’s not the way we want it to go. I would think as we always err in preseason to over-officiate. I think this is an area in particular that we’ll hear something this week.”

Man the Ravens and Bungles have looked fucking horrible in preseason. While I was actually pleasantly surprised by our defense, which could improve to the level of putrid this season and maybe even get to average by the end of the year if everything goes out way.

I really need to control myself and not read too much into this...

We might have made it to the Superbowl if the Bungles did not take out Bell. Last year was fucking weak as hell. Anyone but the Colts had a chance. If your team didn't cheat at everything who knows if they beat the Ravens.

That should have been my team that Wussle handed the trophy too!

They've already clarified it. If the QB is involved in the run play and hasn't removed himself from said play, he's as good as dead!

So to me, this is kind of the absurdity of it. One of the things the Shanny/Kubiak offense does is leave the backside LB/DE unblocked, and occasionally go hard play action boot to the offensive left. The QB is involved in that run play since he is holding the DE/LB in place by carrying out the boot, even when he has handed off.

It also seems like the rules mean any team can overload blitz a shotgun and nail the QB if he hands off, b/c he won't have time to establish a passing posture or clearly demonstrate he has handed off

and then a player gets fined for the same thing suggs did and then NFL teams, fans and media all collectively say wtf?

The way it ought to be.

I shouldn't agree because we've got Gandalf back there throwing passes, but I agree.

I was really disappointed in the Ravens last year.

Kubes, Flacco, and Forsett put together a masterful offensive performance and their defense pissed it away.

The playing field wasn't even in retrospect. Once you let the air out of the balls even little handed fucks like Edelman think they can start throwing touchdowns to Glass Joes.

Uh fuck the Ravens.

If it was anyone but the Patriots I would have been glad at the fact that the other team cheated and screwed them out of a win.

I believe the board, and certainly Eagles fans, have my back in this.

Be objective about this. The two best players in Ravens history are a murderer who got away with it and the Predators ugly cousin. Fuck that franchise.

how insane that a former college qb can throw the ball 20 yards!

So let's say he's handed off and continues to run out the boot. The ball should be with the RB and traveling the opposite direction of the booting QB. In that case he's really out of the play even with a fake simply because the ball has been transferred and the play is going elsewhere. There's really no mesh point there, and the QB is away from the play, assuming the run is not following the QB which would defeat the purpose of the boot in the first place.

If the defender is fast enough to hit the QB while he's handing off the ball or soon after (similar to the Bradford/Suggs play), I would say he's fair game in the bootleg. Teams have done it or come very close before so it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Obviously open to interpretation as one could say they were confused by the boot and the QB was acting like a runner, depending on how close it was.

As far as overload blitzing a shotgun handoff, if they are fast enough to get in the backfield and hit the QB as he's transferring the ball, I would say it's also fair game. Problem is, they usually aren't. So in general I think that's a moot point.

College ball is smaller. Little hands all around.

Most of us are pretty suspicious that Brady can do it.

By the way, I was throwing some footballs around the last few weeks and the difference between a fully inflated ball land one that is slightly under inflated is fucking enormous. The ball is so much easier to throw and catch. It does not get the same spin if you are heaving it really deep, but that only applies to guys with big guns and huge hands (i.e. Rodgers, Ben, etc.).

Man it's almost like the Steelers never had Kordell Stewart or Antwaan Randle El or *gasp* Hines Ward. Seriously Edelman is the man!

That looks like a random college chick at a random college.

She is definitely hot but worth watching a tv show over?

WTF is this 1991 when kids had to use Sears catalogs and Victoria Secrets to calm the inner beast that lies within?

Believe me, there isn't much else to watch that particular TV show over.

She's certainly better than that AT&T chick or whatever that a bunch of dudes swooned over in here though.

it blows my mind that people actually watch the stuff marvel puts on network tv
Reality tv killed network and basic cable.

Mouth breathers did not alter their habits no matter how bad shit got and the execs figured out it was better to just put out garbage that was cheap instead of trying something new and awesome.

There is good shit on the premium channels and the few channels on cable that are trying to be ambitious, but as far as I can tell not many people are watching. Kids are watching other kids play video games on YT or weird ass violent porn and their parent are watching horrible reality tv shows involving bigots and pedophiles. Or worse the Kardashians.

It's not great, but it's certainly better than watching shitty Bengals preseason football :p

I just assume that everything you people watch is horrible.

You should watch Mr. Robot. It's actually good, has good music, represents actual programming well and has pretty damn good acting. Rami Malek, the main character, is actually a character in Until Dawn too!

My knee hurts like a motherfucker. Where's the on call orthopedic specialist?

Decent game tonight, but had to miss most of the back half. Will watch later. That missed connection between Winston and Evans stings. That's exactly the kind of pass they should be hitting in the regular season. Bengals are fucked if our D could style on them like that. Hopefully preseason jitters on their part as well.
