yes! i will play rust again soon! our madden league started its playoffs so i had to beat up on the falcons in the wild card last night. a 13-3 wild card team playing on the road fuck this league! now i advance to play eznarks 14-2 packers. how the fuck did eznark go 14-2? i have no idea... but he did beat me in week 1

Just read the transcript from Hickey's introductory press conference yesterday. He's saying all the right stuff so far, I like what I hear.
Also, even with how odd and dysfunctional looking the GM search has been I kind of like that Ross is willing to show some faith in his head coach. He believes Philbin is his guy and he's willing to stick out a few mediocre seasons with him to maintain some stability and hopefully achieve some long-term success. Obviously I still have my doubts about him as HC and I think he has everything to prove this season but I'd rather have this approach than a Cleveland Browns style massacre at the first sign of adversity.

I think giving Philbin another year is a good idea. This offseason will be a nightmare though, even before the bullying thing, we were the perfect fit for the usual fluff piece fillers a la "Is your ma a hooker", let's hire a coach w/o firing the current one, etc. It all starts with Ross and I just don't see him changing so we can only hope Philbin and the players will get it around so that some form of success overshadows a weird-ass owner.
I'm glad Ireland is gone though. Surely Hickey can't fuck up on so many levels...

Yeah, Ireland being gone is definitely a good thing.
The more I look at the situation the more I can kind of see where Ross is coming from. A major reason Ireland/Sparano failed is because the two couldn't get along. A major reason Ireland/Philbin failed is because the two couldn't get along. The common thread there is Ireland, so let's get rid of him. Now, continuing on with the belief that Philbin is still the guy, the next GM you bring in better get along with him or you'll end up with another Ireland situation. Hence the weird structure of having the GM and Philbin both reporting to Ross and not giving the GM the power to fire Philbin. One of the main things Ross was looking for with this GM search was a guy who would have a solid relationship and singular vision with the HC, and in this case Philbin in particular.
Of course, this whole mess is Ross' fault, I'm not denying that, but I can kind of understand why he made it such a priority for the GM to get along well with Philbin (and Aponte as well). If you aren't buying into his current vision for the team, which includes Philbin, then you aren't going to cut it as GM. It's a little unorthodox but if it fails he can always clean house and try that approach in a season or two.
One thing I like about Hickey is that he hasn't been a GM before. I'm generally fond of the idea of giving a guy like that a shot as opposed to going after some washed-up has-been like Parcells. It's risky but we'll see.

I am trying to get the wife to make some friend chicken and lamb chops. I think we are watching it at a friends house and I am hoping that is the food we take.
My friend and his wife are fucking lazy and will probably give everyone rancid Papa Johns pizza. This may push me into rooting for the Seahawks. If it happens I am sorry Bronco fans.

What kind of sauce do you use? I've been going with this a lot lately:
Nothing fancy but man is it good. I usually bake the wings with some salt, pepper, and olive oil for about 45 minutes then add the sauce and cook them a few more minutes to get it hot. I could probably eat about 30.

I'll have dinner right before the game starts, so I'm still deciding what my game snacks will be. Small portion of wings maybe, but most likely it'll be some small things, maybe some pretzels, maybe pick up a small fruit tray, some mixed nuts, etc.
