NFL Training Camp/Preseason Thread 2012 - A Farewell to snes :(

I dont know why people get so hyped for a casino. Almost all just play games that are rigged for casino profit benefit. Most are going just to lose their money. Dont see the fun in that. Did it one time, prob wont again. At least not for awhile

Just go and play games the house doesnt get any money from. When I go to casinos I only play hold em.

Well if you go to a top law school its pretty legit, no? Isnt the big dummies that go to low level scrub law schools?
It is pretty bad for everyone. Things went to shit around 2003 and never picked up. A lot of lawyers still make a lot of money, even ones who go to smaller schools, but for the amount of money and time you put into it versus the amount of jobs available it is not a good proposition. My friend works for the Fed (he got in right before things got really bad in 2008ish) and he sees a shit load of applications every week from guys who went to Harvard and Yale just trying to get a job as a federal attorney.

Not that college grads or business grads are doing any better.

The only field that is insulated so far is the medical field and I am pretty sure their day of reckoning is coming. I guess engineering is probably ok too, but I think most of our engineers come from other countries.

Better save up kids. Or else pretty soon its going to be Grapes of Wrath and we are going to be picking fruit and taking care of livestock on eznark's farm. FUUUUUUUU

There's a massive shortfall of doctors in primary care - somewhere in the tens of thousands - coming at the end of this decade. Folks want to specialize.

Law school is pretty bad right now. Have a friend at Yale the graduated, and she said 15% of 3Ls had jobs in hand before graduation.

I played hold em and won like 200 over 3 hours. Went to main casino and lost like 350 over 8 hours something. Was boring as fuck

I am the opposite. I love playing hold em. I have played in a bunch of tournaments and even won a few, and I had a great time each time.

Ill be good in the welding field until they automate all welding jobs and make so any inbred with a iq of 70 can push a green button to start it up

The hold em wasnt bad, it was the main casino that was the drag.

The house still makes the rake. Usually 5-10 or maybe more percent of the end pot. So yeah, they always win. Don't kid yourself.
Hold em is a great game though. My brother moved to Vegas after winning a 10k online tournament. Then since being down there has won somewhere over 75k. Works as a limo driver, but plans to move back to Cinci and start his own Limo service when their casino opens up. He lived in Cinci since going to college there and stayed there for some time before his vegas hiatus.

Law school is practical as long as you're willing to relocate. Have a friend that finished patent law about 5 years ago. She had to move to DC, but even living there, she can afford a small ass luxury apartment that costs more than my house mortgage. Not even made partner, just does their research and files reports prior to cases and probably makes 180k+

Not real sure, we've never asked her, but she isn't lean on money, so it can pay off.

No doctors want to be paid less to go into primary care and service the underserved areas in bumfuck USA. Usually the worst of the worst end up going to those places.

Everyone wants to be a radiologist or anesthesiologist and live in a major city and jerk off while texting on their phone and be paid $400k+.

I see things changing a lot in medicine. I think in the future all doctors are going to be employees for big corporations and be treated as badly as the rest of us.

i was playing 1/2 no limit and average pot size was like 30-40, cant remember how much they took but it wasnt much really. but yeah they still get their money

The problem with primary care is that no one in the US wants to be preventative. Which then makes them wait until they absolutely need a specialist.

I still need to find a primary care physician since moving up here like 2 years ago. My previous closed his practice because business sucked. They really got the shaft going that route. That's one area where we really do need help in.

The truth that no one wants to hear is that medical care in the us sucks serious dicks unless you have great insurance and go to the right specialist (not that easy and a lot of specialists and doctors in generals are whores).

If you meet that narrow criteria than the US care is the best.

But man there are so many shitty doctors and especially surgeons who are fucking up diagnoses, performing unnecessary procedures and surgeries and getting paid a fuckton to do it.

Not sure if people are serious about being shocked the Browns sold for about 1 billion. It's not like they were valued before that at 500 million or anything. Last check seems their value was around 970 million.

J.J. Watt leaves Texans practice with elbow injury
Posted by Darin Gantt on August 2, 2012, 12:46 PM EDT
Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is tackled by Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt during their NFL AFC Divisional playoff football game in Baltimore Reuters

The Hall of Fame might have to wait. Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, who earned high praise for his work early in camp, wasn’t able to finish practice Thursday with an elbow injury.

Dale Robertson of the Houston Chronicle reports that Watt was taken to the training room by cart after getting his arm “caught in a tangle of players at the end of a running play.”

Texans coach Gary Kubiak said after practice he had no further information on Watt’s condition.

Watt’s the fourth Texans starter to get hurt in the first week of camp.

Wide receiver Andre Johnson (groin), left tackle Duane Brown (lower leg) and cornerback Kareem Jackson (hamstring) have all missed time, but Kubiak said he expected all of them to be ready for the regular season opener.

I still don't know a lot about US health care, but from reading all these "Should I go to a doctor? I wanted to wait til my next paycheck/til my job started to get insurance etc" threads on GAF, this seems like it's one of the biggest downsides of your health care system. Having to pay for a lot of procedures keeps people from doing something when worse things can still be prevented.

NO ONE in Germany, no matter how poor, wouldn't go to a doctor if they saw the need (that's another issue, too many people want to sit things out).

But maybe it isn't really like GAF makes it seem.

Change is gonna come. I just fear that it might be like Gangs of New York, where folks are running into rich peoples houses. Seinfeld, watch out, I'm coming to your house in the Hamptons.

Orthopedic surgeons are generally assholes and often operate when not necessary.

The good ones are worth their weight in gold though.

Wish doctor review sites were better and easier to use so more people were sent to the good ones. Usually most people just go with whoever their primary sends them to and that is usually someone they are friends with.

Like I said the system is fucked up.

No that seems perfectly reasonable. They are an old franchise, and all trolling aside, a storied one. I'm sure they do well in merchandise and football is incredibly profitable regardless of your team's performance as long as they have a solid fan base.

I'll wait until I can walk before I comment too much on my orthopedic surgeon. Otherwise to date, I'd say he's done a really good job and took unrelated medical conditions into consideration and made sure to be safe.

I have ulcerative colitis so I'm on remicade infusions that weaken my immune system. Had to make sure no infection happened when operating on my multi fractured ankle.
Looks to be healing up really well with no issues, but it's only been 2 weeks since surgery. Will be a while before I'm supposed to be able to put walking pressure on it. I can drive my car and use my leg as a prop, but I can't put real weight on it at this point.

This is 100% wrong. A HUGE MASSIVE problem (of about 100s) in this country is that we are overly prescriptive up front because the cost is hidden.

"Sure, I'll go get that probably unnecessary X-ray or MRI. It's not like I'll know the price up front, plus I'm shielded because my employer carries my insurance."

The incentive for the hospital is to get a patient to fill as many operations as possible - not to weigh what is the most affordable service for each patient. A doctor's individual incentive may be noble, but he/she is just one.

This is just one of about a billion little pressures that affect our health system. Another is that hospitals ostensibly unionized (although it's a corporation, so it's not a union!), increasing their bargaining position against insurers.

And so it goes.

I guessed Drew has talked to Oakland and Cleveland. Plax says I'm 50% right. And now Plax is raving about Carson Palmer.
Plax hyping Carson now, what's next?

Yeah Rich Gannon said something along those lines too.

"Get the sense our guy Plex could wind up in OAK. Likes the idea of pairing with Carson Palmer "who throws the deep ball as well as anyone."

I'm against any change in the healthcare system. I'm overpaid for my job and I don't want anything that's going to affect my bottom line.

It's an insanely selfish view on the issue, but I own that.

It is just amazing that in the 21th century we are not able to take care of the humans who live in this planet. We can easly kill them all, but we can't save them :(

The French Health care system is the best in the world (srly), just your official paper and 60 hours of work in the year (contribution). You can be repaid on a lot of medical stuff. When you don't have a job and if you are poor you can have the CMU which allows you to be treated free.
For the long cure, the medicine is free.

People contribute with their salary.

But sometime, people work but don't earn enought money to live and thay can use it.

Socialism fuck yeah :D

There is a storm coming Mr. Feces. And you and your friends better batten down the hatches because when it hits you are going to wonder how you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

I could use a new hockey puck.
Ahh, you are one of those guys who are overly emotional about the phone they use.

I make about 500-600 dollars a month, I live with 3 other guys, I have no insurance, and no savings.

Its exciting! Then when I graduate I will be in debt. Sure hope I find a decent job!

This is a misquote, he only said that because he bought stock in the Steelers, if you put money into something why not be fully invested into it. The Stock will be sold and he'll be fully invested in the browns.
And I believe he grew up being a cowboys and colts fan.

True.
And now comes the drama.
Does Holmgren stay?
Heckert?
Shurmur?

I think it'd be wise not to do anything until after this season. Holmgren will probably only be around another year or so at best anyway so I can see him going but I kinda like Heckert. And there are conflicting stories about whether or not Heckert and Banner get along so....

Lets just say I'm more of a Woz type than a Jobs type.

I care about my electronics like any real American. We like to customize our things and make them our own. Sure there are going to be mishaps and problems but I don't want to live in a world where I need to worship the all powerful apple.
He won't even let me get a Nexus because it isn't made by his favorite manufacturer. Fox is snes in google clothing!

???

You should totally get a Nexus. If you are talking about the Nexus 7 I believe you said you wanted a 10" tablet. You might be able to get the Xoom for cheap now and its still been getting updates.

I'd only reccomend Nexus products at this point but Amazon has been doing a great job with the Kindle Fire. If only the Appstore on other phones wasn't shit.

I'd say the bigger issue is that if you're not near a major population center you're pretty much screwed. America's biggest issue is that there is a real divide between the urban centers/rural America.
