Mixed emotions in that it was great to see Alex play so much better these last 25 games, but it was also so painful to know we are a QB away from being an insane force for the next 5 years.
alex was getting better. and who knows if he continued in this offense how much better he would get? i see 49ers fans talking about alex not going deep enough and it is a fair point i suppose but its like they're expecting every play to be a 7 step drop and chuck it downfield to moss for a jump ball touchdown. it doesn't work that way.
the way alex smith plays CAN put pressure on a defense. go ahead and laugh but when you have a guy that just isn't making mistakes and lets say you get down by 10 or 14 early, then you start pressing as a defense to make a play and thats when stuff opens up down the field. alex has always been too conservative and that is his main issue. i think part of the reason harbs is going to kap (if he is) is because our defense is more inconsistent than last year. yeah, we have games like we did against the jets and bears and bills and cards. but then our defense has games like we did against the vikes, giants and rams.
some games we are going to need to score 30 points to win and harbs believes kap gives us a better chance to do that. is he right? we'll see!
