The hell? You should be fucking thrilled that you went 7-9 with a rookie QB throwing to the likes of Danario Alexander and Laurent Robinson.

I'm not stomping my feet that they didn't fire him. But Sunday was a disaster. I can take the broad view and agree with you, that 7-9 was a great season considering all of the talent issues.

But the Rams should have beat Seattle. They didn't b/c people figured out the short passing game, and the coaches didn't adjust. That was the biggest test of the year, and they failed. Shitty orgs hand wave away failure and happily accept a gold sticker for participation.

What it is...

The Budster has always been Houston based. He held the press conference when he drafted VY in Houston, and on the eve of their SB appearance, said if he won he would shove the ring up the Houston mayor's ass.

Good management realizes there is a huge shortcoming on the roster i.e. the receiving corp. You can only play with the personnel you have.

Mark Clayton and Donnie Avery could actually get open downfield and make those catches.

This would be like Ted Thompson griping about the Packers' inability to run the ball.

While it sounds like JR has been derping quite a in this PC, at least it looks like Luck will be the pick if he's there.

This is an editorial which makes my points better than I can. One can be happy with 7-9 and the progress made, while also concerned about what transpired when the team needed to come up big.

There aren't three year plans in the NFL. Teams get better rapidly when they get the right people in the right places. The Rams should make the playoffs next year. They need to ask themselves if they have the right people in the right places to do that, regardless of how many gold stickers are handed out for 7-9

I also didn't realize that Cincinnati has had the same offensive coordinator (Bob Bratkowski) for 10 years now. That just seems unheard of in this day and age for someone to stay in the same coordinator position for so long.

The Falcons in 2008 and Buccaneers this year had phenomenal one season turnarounds. Of course you can expect a team to improve its rosters going forward.

You're being unreasonable if you think Devaney's going to sit put and not improve the roster in the offseason. Much ado about nothing and the such.

Tell me about it. I think it's weird that Bill Musgrave's been our QB coach since like 2006. I guess it speaks to how well he's thought of that he's survived 3 different coaching staffs.

I'm having trouble believing this. I can't see a coach with any clout at all agreeing to these terms in the first place. If he's not doing these duties, then what exactly is his job? The OC runs the offense, the DC runs the defense, the owner hires makes all personnel and coaching hires, and Marvin holds the challenge flag?
I can believe it. :(

Please do not attribute arguments to me I did not make. All I brought up was coaching. The offensive gameplan was awful on Sunday. My point is that you can't be blinded by 7-9 and not take a hard look at what happened when they faced their biggest test.

Bud's an absentee owner. I think he was in Nashville once this year and that was to hand out "Believe" T-shirts to the players. Is there any other owner in the league that lives 800 miles away from their team? My gut says Fisher will be back and Vince is gone. I think it'll all come down to money in the end. It will be cheaper for Bud to just keep Fish and cut Young. I watched Fish's presser yesterday and he seemed more confident than I've seen him all season. He also sounded like he doesn't plan to make any changes with the coaching staff and he wants KFC back after that "great" game he had Sunday.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Jim Harbaugh is highly unlikely to accept the Michigan football coaching job if it becomes available, a person with direct knowledge of Harbaugh’s thinking told the Free Press.

Harbaugh plans to decide this week whether he wants to take a job in the NFL. If he stays in college coaching, he has decided he will stay at Stanford, where he has built a potential powerhouse.
It would take an extreme change of heart for Harbaugh to end up in Ann Arbor, according to the person, who did not want to be identified because Rich Rodriguez is still U-M’s coach.

The San Francisco 49ers are making a strong push to hire Harbaugh. New Denver Broncos executive John Elway attended the Orange Bowl on Monday — as an honorary captain for Stanford, his alma mater — and ESPN has reported Elway would like Harbaugh to coach his team. But Harbaugh also could stay at Stanford — a possibility that seemed remote just a few days ago.

49ers requested permission to interview Raiders offensive coordinantor Hue Jackson for their head coach opening.

Hopefully Sanchez's shoulder will be fully healed for the Colt's game. And the Colts running game has picked up recently and their running defense was good last week.

Been good the past three weeks. We shut down MJD and McFadden as well as running for 100-150 in those games, as well.

If anything, I'm worried about our secondary and inconsistent pressure from our D line.

Its a little bit of both but McDermott in two years hasn't shown anything in terms of getting more out of his players. He wants to run the same scheme JJ ran but the Eagles no longer have the talent to run the all out blitz defense. I want change at certain positions and that includes D. For 12 years we have been running the exact same defense that utilizes speedy undersized DLinemen and LBs, puts a premium on CBs, and has the bend but don't break mentality. Teams have caught up to it, even when JJ was alive, and the Eagles are no longer a top 10 defense. We don't get any pressure outside from Cole but even he is undersized and wears down (0 sacks 5 of the last 7 games).

Promoting McDermott means more of the same. He isn't going to challenge the set up. The Eagles continuously ignore the LBs, draft small guys, and nothing ever changes. Talented veterans are allowed to walk or traded because they want to continuously get younger even if the new talent is unproven. Why in the world we are stuck with Hobbs and Paterson is beyond me when that is the 1 position they do value. Why Sheldon was allowed to walk is beyond me. Why we still don't have a strong LB corps after 12 fucking years is beyond me. Some of it was the scheme JJ ran but mostly its what the team puts a value on. Team president Joe Banner has said as much. Certain positions they believe "in" and certain positions they believe you can just fill in.

Maybe bringing in an outside D coordinator and or voice will change some of that up. With McDermott we are stuck with JJ lite running the same tired defense that doesn't fit the personnel and teams have caught up to.

Denver has scheduled an interview with Mike Mularkey:

The Broncos search for their next head coach is officially underway.

The team announced Tuesday, via its official Twitter account, that officials will interview Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey on Friday in Atlanta.

Mularkey was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills in 2004-2005 and has been with the Falcons since 2008, where he has coached quarterback Matt Ryan. The Falcons have a bye in the first round of the NFC playoffs.

Hmmm.

Damn. I really don't want Mularkey to leave, but his son just graduated from High School last year. Supposed to be a great guy (kids went to my alma mater).

His playcalling's great (outside of the strangely conservative Saints game), and Matt's grew up with him. It's assume that Musgrave will move up and take the OC post if Mike leaves.

I'd love to bring Josh McDaniels in here, though. We do have that Pats connection...

Denver is also asking for a second round pick for Kyle Orton:

Through 11 of his 13 starts, veteran Kyle Orton played beautifully, if mostly between the 20s. Orton, though, could not overcome the Broncos' ineffective running game and push the offense into the top 10 in scoring.

Tebow was almost the anti-Orton in his final three games: hardly pretty between the 20s, but his running ability helped him play well in the red zone and in the fourth quarter. Tebow will be the Broncos' starting quarterback in 2011. Orton is too good to play backup, so he will likely be traded. The Broncos will ask for a second-round draft pick.

I think the Saints game was more about playing it close to the vest since there is a pretty good chance we will see them again.

You're probably being sarcastic, but I actually think pretty highly of Orton. From his time in both Chicago and in Denver.

Hmmm.

One of those things, not sure how I feel now. Mularkey has helped bring Matt Ryan along.
Terry Robiske, the receivers coach, could be offensive coordinator. He has been OC for the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, and Los Angeles Raiders.

While with the Raiders,
As the Offensive Coordinator, Robiskie guided the powerful running back duo of Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen, who combined to rush for 1,380 yards in 1990. The team made seven playoff appearances, won four division titles and defeated the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII during Robiskie’s tenure.
While with the Redskins,
In Robiskie’s seven years with the Redskins, there were five different individual 1,000-yard receiving seasons, including one each by Michael Westbrook (1,191) and Albert Connell (1,132) in 1999. With Robiskie as the Passing Game Coordinator in 1999, QB Brad Johnson was voted to the NFC Pro Bowl squad as he threw for 4,005 yards, the second-highest total in franchise history.
While with the Browns,
In 2004, he was promoted to Offensive Coordinator and went on to serve as Cleveland’s interim Head Coach for the final five games of that season. He earned a victory in a 22-14 decision in the season finale on January 2, 2005 against the Houston Texans.
Looks like Robiske knows how to work with a running and passing game.

McFadden wasn't hurt, I believe. He stomped all over the Broncos (?) the week before. MJD was supposedly a little gimpy but he wasn't pulled until the next week, I thnk.

It's going to be Bill Musgrave. They wouldn't keep him along as QB coach and make him assistant head coach without the promise of moving up the chain of command.

McFadden was hurt (turf toe). That's why he didn't play the next game. Still, he was averaging 4 yards a carry.

Also, the idiot coaching staff decided Jason Campbell needed 50 drop backs for some fucking reason.

What order is that in anyway? Based on personal preference? Not in alphabetical order, not in chronological order, not in order by qb rating. WTF.

Now they gotta do something with Hawk's contract. He won't be around for his expected 10mil next year - so this will be his last stint unless he is willing to rework his contract.

I know he wasn't happy about being pulled in favor of more play-making/coverage LBs last season and this year (pretty much only played in the base 3-4, which they didn't use almost at all the first few games), but I think he's way more reliable (health wise) than Bishop and Barnett. Would be happy if they can keep him, but just not for 10million.
