They just mentioned on the broadcast that the county is currently researching ways to operate the arena without the Panthers :/

I imagine the entire team was pretty fired up for this one after the playoffs last year.
Ownership said they lose $20 million per year.
There are ongoing discussions with the county about giving them a financial break. Before Viola bought the team there were plans for building a hotel complex with a casino right next to the stadium that would bring in a ton of revenue... its been awhile since I've heard of that though, not sure if those plans are still alive.

I don't think the county wants the Panthers to leave... the impression I get is that both sides are trying to scare the other side into caving on their requests.
Dunno though, playing to that number of fans seems unsustainable. The part that sucks is that the fans show up when the Panthers succeed. The area was rocking for the playoffs a few years ago... but fans of this team are so used to seeing shit on the ice, for what... 15+ years now? At some point it catches up, and the ticket price policies this year seem to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

I'm really happy to see him constantly shooting the puck. Too many Panthers players just want to pass pass pass when they should take a shot.

Last though from me for the night. The county is reasearching the cost of operating the arena if there is no anchor tenant (SSE). They are fact checking that amount against what the owners are asking for and will meet somewhere in the middle.

What would be a good Seattle NHL Team Name anyway?
They would have had a team if some NBA team had been willing to relocate right? Think they want to have an NBA team and are willing to accept an NHL team should they get one. Whoever owns the stadium/is going to own the stadium didn't want just an NHL team.

I hope the Panthers stay, I always feel really bad for the fans of teams that move because the Sens were in a pretty shitty situation before Melnyk as well. Felt terrible for Thrashers fans when they moved to Winnipeg.
How much of the blame for the Panthers troubles is shared by the fact that they don't play in Miami proper? A suburban arena is a big reason why the Sens don't draw as much as they realistically should, getting to the game and back home is a huge pain in the ass for most of the city. The Panthers should share the same arena as the Heat.
