I love Lindy Ruff already. Waay more aggressive then freaking Gulutzan who was a pussy. The first day of training camp was intense.

Kennedy on that first line is going to the aggressive forechecker trying to get that puck turned over
Hertl on that second line is going to setup Couture or take it to the net
Pavelski's line is going to be a really rough. Kennedy will join the line after Havlat come back from injury
4th line is meh
They played Torres with Couture and Marleau during the playoffs last season, I bet they'll try to keep that going for now. Hertl is too new and unproven to just be on our top line right away. He'll get time against third line competition so he can establish his NHL game. Throwing him against top competition right away is a recipe for disaster for most rookies.

Yeah, but Torres came up to that line because that fuck face Bieksa speared Havlat, and was doing fine on our 3rd line with Pavelski before his got suspended in the first round last year. I'm pretty sure thats where we wanted him and intend keep him. Limited minutes on the 3rd line.
Hertl is new, but we can't slot Kennedy up there. Kennedy is not someone you want on the 1st or 2nd lines for long periods of time. Hertl might be juggled around, but if we don't give him minutes, we are better off sending him to woosta to get those minutes instead of riding the bench on 3rd or 4th line minutes.
I don't think putting Hertl on 2nd line minutes will hurt him at all. Couture's rookie year we gave him tough minutes because we had Clowe watching him like a baby cub. Hertl is a big kid and won't need protection. I think he'll be fine.
We'll know more in the coming days though once we see the first round of cuts. Cheers!

The way I see it, the coaching staff is going to start the year rolling these three scoring lines. Because of that the minutes will be distributed a lot more evenly between the top three lines, we saw this at the beginning of the playoffs while we still had three scoring lines. So the biggest differentiator will be the level of competition they face. Of course he probably has more skill and hockey smarts than Torres or Kennedy but he's brand new. I think Couture's line is going to see top competition a lot this year and that Hertl would be better served facing weaker competition to start the year. The guy still has to acclimate himself to NHL hockey, he's played 4(I believe) games on North American sized ice. He's going to need a lot more adjustment.
I think Kennedy and Torres will be fine on the top two lines to start the season. They'll have specific jobs to perform on those lines and they'll do them well. It's not like they're putting Tim Kennedy out there.
Would he be better off getting time on the baby Sharks for a bit? Maybe, only time will tell. I'm very curious and excited to see how he performs.
