NHL Off-Season 2017 |OT| We’ve Been Here Since October

Why the hell would you travel all the way to Vegas to watch your hockey team take on a garbage team headlined by Jason Garisson?

I personally don't see the appeal of Vegas at all as a place to visit, but it's a cheap trip and people will work seeing their favourite team into their vacation for cheap.

I had an absolute blast in Vegas. Eventually you need to slow down or die so you take in a show to relax a bit. Chilling out at a Knights game will probably be mellow and relaxing. Maybe even nap worthy.

You people are spot on about snowbirds checking in on their teams in Vegas. Arizona is a home game for the Wings. I expect the same in Vegas.

Vegas actually has a pretty robust suburban sprawl and one of the most resilient housing markets. Just need to sell the locals on it.
Apparently they've done a good job with their season ticket sales. The big question is how long will it last if it's an expansion team that struggles for a decade.

Canadian attendance at Arizona games is significant. Vegas will get the same.

Arizona is a failure of an organization that wouldn't even exist anymore if not for the stubbornness of the NHL and their desire to not admit defeat.

If you're argument cites Arizona as a reason for optimism it's not a strong one

More about that these places like Arizona and Florida are places where fans of teams from real hockey markets come out in droves.

Yeah, but all expansion to the south hasn't been a failure. Nashville, San Jose, Dallas have all been pretty good additions. Winning helps. Vegas doesn't have a great track record for pro sport teams so if these serious attempts by the NHL and NFL don't work, it never will. I think it will.

This expansion stuff has me wondering who will be kicked out of the Pacific if Seattle does get a team? Arizona? Geographically I can't see it working any other way. I don't see the league splitting up their Alberta teams into different divisions.

Bergevin said today to not expect Drouin starting the season at center, indicating he's still very aware of their need for a top C.

Another odd quirk about the Rangers' schedule: every NHL team is supposed to play in every NHL city at least once in the season, but this year the Rangers will NOT play a game in Buffalo. The only "road" game the Rangers have against Buffalo this season will be played in Queens.

Isn't that something to do with legalities? I'm sure you could explain it as a Rags fan.

Reasoning is TAXES

Louis Jean said the Leafs are interested in Nate Schmidt.

Seems we've been linked to every defenseman in relation to the expansion draft.

Can the Oilers really say no?
Obviously not, he deserves to be the highest paid player but there has to be a limit in the cap world. How do you build a championship team when one part is getting $14M? There will have to be value in a lot of other spots.

If Pittsburgh can do it with the Crosby and Malkin contracts, then Edmonton can do it with McDavid and Draisaitl. But man, one monster contract like that is going to make it very difficult. This is why poor value contracts like Eberle needed to go.

I think some of you know me as being an stickler when it comes to sweaters, but I honestly don't hate the Golden Knights.

Sure, it does look generic, but I was expecting much much worse. It's a template that can be improved on.

Better than what the Penguins were doing for a while.

Or maybe... "hey Connor, you ok making 11M so we can give Draisatl 7?"
That's going to be the problem no matter where he plays. Does he want to be by far the highest paid player in the league, or does he want to play on a team that has a chance at a Cup? In today's cap world, $14M will make it very difficult to play on a championship team.

Lol the NHL is considering giving a minor penalty to a team if they fail an offside coaches challenge, according to Friedman.

This basically means teams can do it every time there is an offside. More irritation for the fans. We may have 2-4 challenges a night in a league with scoring issues.
