Basically in the movie, players from the NFL go on strike. So each team finds a bunch of replacement players to play instead. Anyways, it was a so-so movie, but kind of fun.

Anyways, the NHL should really do something like that in the meantime. What do you guys think?

I just need to watch some hockey, that's broadcasted nation-wide.

If I want to watch 2nd tier hockey, I can grab IHL torrents or catch major junior hockey on regular cable. If the owners think I'm going to pay full ticket NHL prices to watch lower-level players clutch n grab their way through the year, they're high on illegal drugs.

Ah yes, Keanu in his classic role of "Falco", the QB that should have made it big!

Any news on how the day's meetings went between the owners and players?

Regardless of how you look at it (and it's already been publicized that a few owners wanted to consider replacements), it would be extremely difficult to attempt as some teams (off the top of my head, Vancouver and Montreal) operate under government laws that prohibit replacement workers during a strike.

There is a pretty funny commercial making the rounds on TV right now like that, though.

What, are you an American fan or something? :p

I mean, there's no shortage of hockey substitutes to watch if you look. WHL, QMJHL, OHL, AHL. Personally, I'm on the London Knights undefeated-streak bandwagon.

Yeah. I gotta catch them when they come to Windsor (assuming they're coming back sometime this season). They're creaming everyone.

Thank you.

Alas, there are plenty of dumb fucks in this town who'd pay the same top ticket to see replacements. Their loyalty is to the sweater, as evidenced by their high attendance during the pathetic 80's. Then again, did you expect anything less from "Leaf Nation!!!"?

And Crazymoogle makes a good point...the reason why MLB couldn't use replacement players back in '95 was because Ontario had provincial laws that disallow the use of scab workers. I'm not sure what the laws are like now since the right-wing Tories were in power for a couple of terms, but all you need is one or two provinces with similiar laws to throw a monkey wrench into that idea.

BTW, the head cheerleader in The Replacements was fine as fuck...don't know how she hasn't been in more movies.

I've watched "The Replacements" nearing 100 times. One of my favorite movies.

Are you serious? "The Replacements" is one of the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune of seeing

In response to the NHL, up here in Canada, there is no shortage of hockey being played. TSN and Sportsnet still manage to schedule insignificant NHL games from 1994 on a nightly basis as well as games from shitty teams in Nova Scotia. I think it's sad that Canadians are so obsesed with hockey that we'll watch anything even remotely related to the sport. God I hate hockey...

Well then you'll be happy with the NHLPA's latest offer since it won't go anywhere to resolving this standoff. The players agreed to take a pay cut and offered to have a tiered system luxury tax on high spending teams. This deal will be rejected by the owners on Tuesday and a counter-offer will be made that includes a salary cap. It's going to be a long cold winter for hockey fans waiting for this thing to resolve anytime soon.

Believe me, I'm estactic about it. You know there's something wrong with your country when Don Cherry is nominated as one of the greatest Canadians of all time. It's too bad the Raptors are sucking this year, otherwise I think there'd be a little less focus on the Leafs not playing.
