Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

Esther can use any familiar. Anybody can use any familiar, just that some types get certain bonuses with certain characters, but I don't think they're really that important.

Yes, all characters can use all genus types. I should have specified that it's one of the few that are her genus favorites. The +10% stats might not really matter in the end since you can simply level up a few more times if you really need to I suppose.

Still, I'd rather keep them attached to their preferred type, just because. She also has a large mana pool, so it's good to have a caster type that has come kind of healing as well as offensive power (which her default familiar does). For the times that's not needed though, she needs some kind of really good physical damage dealer. Until MUCH later in the game, only Griffy fits that, plus he also happens to have some sick area of effect spell damage on top of it.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT| of Beware the Spoiler-Filled Autoplay Movie

I had been avoiding reading about this one and then when I loaded it up and was getting food ready, I let it sit at that intro screen for too long. Wow, did they ever cram a lot of spoilers into that little movie, lol. My poor innocent brain.

Is there an official name for those movies? I remember something like Attract mode for arcade games.

I was chatting with my friend on skype and I heard that in the background and someone saying "SAY CHEESE!" and I was like "who keeps saying that?!" and he said "Oh I left Ni no Kuni on and it's running on demo mode."

So I guess demo mode is another way to say it.

Is this after you beat the game? I'm still going after the last magic stone.
Yup.

Got my first golden familiar!

What's it (gold) do?
I don't know but I just got my first one too! It's one of those dragons.

Wtf, never knew I was such a gambler. Just spend almost one hour playing the slot machines. And I still haven't earned more than 5000 chips. That game is pretty fun, but it's a time waster.

Time to move over to the blackjack and platoon tables...

Can I buy all the casino prizes elswhere? I really want those familiar tickets

The tickets I think not, but the rest can be made using alchemy. Eventually you'll get enough money to just buy enough chips anyway.

Try Platoon very easy, fun and not as rigged as the other stuff lol :)

Platoon is where it's at for the Casino. It's so easy to win, although the AI cheats it seems like since it seems to win the initial draw to see who goes first at least 80% of the time.

The slots are useless. I wasted over 35k, lost it all. I'll just grind out gilders for the prizes. Going to cost more, but oh well.

Ahh ok, that's good to know.

And I have around 75k guilders now. But that's not much when you want to get everything.

Time to stop gambling and continue with the story. The money will come. And I still haven't sold anything. The hoarder inside me is still quite strong

-edit

Hmm...maybe I'll try playing platoon and see how it goes

It's somewhat luck based, but I ended up with 120k chips in about 20 or so minutes with Platoon. It's a very simple game, and the least random of all of the game types. Well, I guess Double Cross is the least random, but who the hell wants to grind that for chips? Ugh.

An hour in and the game has froze twice on me at the end of a battle. I googled it and it seems a lot of people are having this issue. I'm holding off until a patch is released. Both times it froze I had to do a hard reset.

Not trying to imply that you're pirating the game but someone on Gamefaqs found out that the pirated ISO causes a lot of freezing problems because of the way the game is made to load its assets or something like that. People who pirated it and play it off their HD gets into trouble because the ISO is made to be read at discdrive speed and that causes problems since the HD loads things faster. So many of these so called freezes are due to people playing pirated copies, at least it seems to be the case. The guy who tested it said that the game tends to freeze every 15 to 20 battles with the pirated copy he was testing.

It could also be the usual badly pressed disc problem or your PS3. If I'm not wrong downloaded PSN versions of games can have problems too if something wasn't downloaded properly.

Been playing for about 15 hours on a first gen slim with a physical disc and have had no problems.

Dear god, the golden familiar in post game Old Smoky... I must have it!

Which? By the way the dragon I got was a golden Bedraggle. It's so cute <3. And I think complaining here worked because a bit after I tamed it I fought another one and finally managed to steal a kaleidostone! 3/5 kaleidostones, yay! 0 scrolls of truth ):. EDIT: Woo, another kaleidostone! Only one more.

I've been playing like 6-7 hour sessions everyday since the game released, zero freezes or issues.

Yeah, apparently you can level from 65 to 99 and not get all the items you need for that errand.

And yes, it's the Draggle. I guess I should go back and get the Bopper. Each dungeon seems to have one.

I haven't gone out of my way to tame anything, but I guess I'll start.

There is a nix circle and a chest in an alcove area. Don't go up the stairs, its below ground where the water was. Key in chest.

Platoon is slightly luck-based but it's really easy to win big. Basically, if you're ever given a joker card, there's no reason you should lose unless you're making bad decisions. Pair the joker card with either a bishop or the lowest card you have, then put kings by themselves and then try to get all of your other stacks to at least 17. If you put a stack that's 17-20 against a two-card stack, odds are very high you'll win. A 3-card stack, you probably need about 23-25 to have the best odds of winning. She rarely puts her king out by itself (though she HAS done it and it sucks). From there it's just analyzing the AI's behavior because it's fairly consistent.

Okay, so I just got
the dragon!!! yesssss!!!!!

Now I really really want a Dinoceros. Where's the best place to hunt for them? I tried the plateaus South of Al Mamoon, but only found one encounter. I heard there's a better plataeu to the North of the city. Anywhere else?

The entry in the Telling Stone says their habitat is The Genie's Steps which are basically all those plateaus near Al Mamoon. The one you're in is as good as any, probably. Do know that Dinoceros are really overpowered in comparison to pretty much any other familiar.

I don't really like Dinoceros that much. He's 2 star movement and 1 star attack speed and low accuracy. Puss in Bouts is still my MVP.

I haven't played in a while due to school and work, so for those of you who are using the Skull Guy and the Cat Pirates as Familiars; are they any good?
I dont want to train them and wast my time.

Well, fully evolved he has two stars on attack speed. It's not that much but my level 11 Catastroceros' attack is at 476 and destroys pretty much everything. That's a lot considering the level. The previous stages are similar. EDIT: Actually it's level 13. But it's still a lot.

The cat (Purrloiner) gets really really good when it hits its later evolutions. Not sure about the Bonehead.

I'm using the cat as my main fam and it's purretty great. Very fast and strong. I'm annihilating basically everything with it.

This dino fam sounds interesting too...

Which is exactly why I want one. I've got a pretty awesome squad as is, but you can't go wrong with more firepower.

You'll probably have to kill so many to get one that you'll end up super overleveled by the time you do unless you're really lucky, and with the characters being overleveled + a Dinoceros you're gonna murder everything and make the game even easier than it already is. Why would you wanna do that? Oh well, to each his own.

I finally got all the kaleidostones! Now on to the scrolls of truth that are apparently even harder to get than the kaleidotstones.

Just got my second party member. I'm still loving the aesthetic here, but
you do get to recruit familiars from the field
eventually right? All I wanna do it catch 'em all.

Some people love being OP. I'm one of those people.

So is there any rhyme or reason to capturing familiars? I mean, it seems to happen much more frequently for me when I'm at a higher level than the opponents, and I can kill them in two or three hits while taking minimal damage.

The second party member is the one that helps with that. ;)

Just gotta get lucky, really. The capture rates vary quite a bit from Familiar to Familiar.

Yeah, as far as what I've used, the cat pirate is the best common familiar in terms of attack.

Edit: YUSSSS GOLDEN DRAGGLE CAUGHT HOPE IT DOESN'T SUCK

I don't know if this got answered already, but can you get multiple Griffy with one code? Or could you even get multiple ones at all? If I wanted to get both evolutions for example.

My familiars are telling me they are morphable, but they won't eat the darn drops. Am I to assume i need to feed them more then they'll eat the drops?

Are you feeding them Jumbo drops? You need just drops when you morph them for the first time. Enemies drop each sign's drop.
