Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

Finally got all of the trophies except the 2 ridiculously grindy ones (alchemy and familiar collecting) so with that I'm done. Decent game at the end of the day even with the 20 hour slow start.

Honestly, the amount of time you played this game, if you didn't at least like it I would presume you were a glutton for punishment.

I put 70 hours into FF13 and didn't like 1 minute of it. Did it for some of the trophies before realizing just how ridiculous the list was and giving up.

Mmm. Started this earlier, having a hell of a time getting into it though. Everything has been so slow and drawn out so far. Maybe it's just me, I haven't played a J-RPG is literally forever, but I was pretty excited for this before and now, eeeeh. I'm not sure it's going to be for me, if it doesn't pick up the pace a bit. If I have to deal with cutscene -> shallow tutorial for another few hours, I might fold. Later gameplay looks so nice too.

Esther
joined my quest, now I fight enemies with both
Esther
and myself. As I'm not used to an RPG ( as a matter of fact, this is my first RPG, love studio Ghibli and had to try...having a great time) I'm getting mys ass kicked all the time.

Any tips? There's so much going on, that I find it quite confusing. Let put it this way: I did a lot better fighting enemies on my own.

Yup, you are glutton for punishment. Should have known. :p

How are you fighting battles?

I have a question

if you look a the world map drawn on the wizard companion, there are many black signs on the lands which look like key holes

does anyone know what are they for?

They mark the locations of hidden treasures. You get a spell at one point that reveals them on your world map. You get a trophy for picking up all 100 of them.

Why would you put so much time into a game you don't enjoy? Was it just because it's a mainline Final Fantasy?

I'm not even saying this as someone who's completely enamored of the game: it does get better. For me, I'd say around the 8-10 hour mark.

Well that's the reason I bought it but I tend to finish just about everything I play. Then I put some overtime into it to try and trophy whore it but the game has ridiculously grindy trophies, ones that make some of this game's trophies look easy.

Oh god haha. 8 hours, man. If it gets better though...we'll see. I'm playing Dead Space as well right now, maybe once I've polished that off I'll focus in a bit more and get over the beginning hump but especially with another new game right there, it's been easy to switch over.

Currently at level 58 - 56 with my party. Just got the
3 moonstones for the wand

Think it may be time to grind some more before heading on with the quest. Still havent got the 1000 battles won trophy or 2000 glims one. Have to be getting close though

Does the 250 familiars trophy count duplicates? Like if i caught 250 of the same familiar would i still get the trophy?
No, but evolving a familiar counts as multiple species for the trophy, so if you evolve one from the first to the final stage it will count as 3.

At least that's what it says in the trophy guide I've been using for a couple trophies. It's found here: http://goo.gl/MpnLS

Usually, I'll start a battle myself, use magic spells and let Mitey finish the job.
I only have three familiars and just swapped one with
Esther

1. You can grind a little bit outside of the city and heal every time your health goes down more.

2. With money you get from battling, stock up on health supplies. Use those health supplies to heal you self every time you are not near a town or healing spot and continue to battle.

3. What I did was use Miteys cut loose attack because it damages all of the enemies. Once they are down just finish them off with normal attacks.

4. Are your equipment up to date? You might want to do that if not.

5. Stop using Oliver and just focus on Mitey. If you are like me, you will use Oliver the further you get into the game.

Will give it another go.

I got to the
Ivory Tower
and I'm like damn, do I really have to go through another twisty turny dungeon to reach the
real final
boss? I just did
3 boss battles
in a row and now this shit? Grumble.

Also another good tip is to switch between mitey and Oliver right before you get attack and are in low health. You can avoid a hit from the bad guys this way and allow you a little bit of time to heal up. Then you can switch back to Mitey and fight again.

It's also ok to die as long as you press continue instead of going back to the title screen, you might lose some money, but you get to keep your XP.

It's not that bad. Dungeon took me about half an hour to get through with all chests gotten. I did avoid most battles though due to being OP.

That actually doesn't sound too bad then. Grinding Tokotokos you can take a familiar up to 3rd stage pretty quickly.

Anything definitive on the glim trophy? I've definitely picked up 2k by now. If the end battle vacuum ones count, that is. If not, ugh.

They said that if they did make a sequel it would have a new world and probably an adult protagonist.

Thank god. Oliver and his "wait, what's going on?" after every main story bit is so infuriating.

Oh god the
fairy village bit is lovely. The stand-up comedy thing was awesome, it actually made me laugh out loud. I noticed one of the fairies quoting Bruce Forsyth too, which was funny. The little 2D "dungeon" was a nice surprise.
I really like the environments in this game, there's some really fun and unique ideas.

The place inside the mother reminded me blues clues. :p

any way i can have my party defend 100% of the time? i pulled it off a few times but i'm not consistent.

Unfortunately from what I've observed your party members won't cancel their actions when you tell them to defend, so if they are in the middle of a long cast they won't have time to finish it and then start defending.

I like this game, but I cannot get over how bad Esther is. Grabs health, mana, and gold orbs when she doesn't need them. The party AI holds this game back from perfection.

So it looks like I'll be retiring my Gold Mitey I got with the Wizard's Edition. :(

He's just not keeping up with the rest of the familiars and having a tough time fighting monsthers (he's starting to take a lot of damage). I can't complain too much since he's lasted me quite a bit (I'm at the Glittering Grotto).

That'll do Shinymite, that'll do.

This game is so awesome. Maybe not the most challenging RPG, but I'm a pussy anyway so that makes it even more enjoyable. Definitely gonna end up being one of my games of the generation and I haven't even got a god damn dragon to fly yet.

Epic game. But sidequests are awful. Especially alchemy ones.

Congrats. I still need the merit stamp one (only have the war ogre ax or whatever it's called, that errand), 250 familiar, and alchemy as the tough ones. I'm very close to maxing Mitey's hearts and potential. And I assume I'm close to the 1000 battles and 2000 glims trophies.

@RangerBAD what level are you? I finished the S-rank at level 68 I believe, the final fight was kind of tough but doable.

I have 91 familiars to go. I'm ashamed to say it, but Oliver and company are level 99, except Marcassin because I never used him. Most of my familiars are in the 90s. It has to be what familiars I'm using. I feel like I should be winning without trying with that level. Maybe that's part of the problem too.

I'm so close, but the S-Rank fights are really beating me good.

Even with Catastroceros?

Thanks. Yeah 250 familiars is also pain in the ass. Had to buy Jumbo Stardrops in casino coz it seems like most needed item. Planetdrop is almost worthless (have 50 standard + 33 jumbo and used only one time on Mendragorer)
Also, it's good that you don't need to craft all items that require such rare shit like Scrolls of Truth, Troll's Tears etc..

I have Catastroceros, but he's not really leveled much so I don't use him. Guess I should level him? Should I put him on Oliver?

I'm extremely confused why they even made planet a familiar sign. Unless I'm missing something, there's only one Planet familiar. And yeah, star seems to be the one that holds the best familiars.

And RangerBAD, that may be your problem. Cata is the only familiar you need once you get him, the rest honestly become mostly obsolete.
