Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

What level do our familiars have to be on before they can morph to their final form? My Cutpurse and Mite thing are all around 32, but that is still not enough apparently.
It depends on the familiar, the level they can morph varies though the two you're asking about are quite similar.

Mighty Mite can morph at level 33 and second form max level is 54.

Cutpurrse can morph at level 33 and second form max level is 55.

About 8 hours in so far and really enjoying the game. Surprised at how much magic usage is (or at least has been in my experience) rationed. Really relying on physical attacks and items. The item reliance lead me to complete my first merit card (which I think I wasted on the jump ability...they even said it was useless but I always roll in Zelda so I got it lol). Also heavily focused on picking up glints EVERY time I can. I just picked up my 3rd familiar. Been sticking with their default names until now

Game is gosh darn gorgeous too. Really masterful. And the music...oh the music.

Yea I didnt really start using magic/tricks until 2/3 of the way through the game when I was able to get ahold of the casino. Magic replenishing items were just so damn expensive and rare early on that my party almost always was set on "Don't use abilities". Once I had more money than I knew to do with, didn't have to ration magic anymore

Thanks, been struggling for months on picking an Avatar and I did love Lemhal's (Thumbelemur's) design.

Just completed the game over the weekend, teams at level 98-99 (was 60-70 when I beat the game) for my characters and main familiars. I think I've been enjoying leveling up a little too much.

Edit:

Personally I spent most of the game conserving MP on Oliver, and letting my teammates use abilities. I find that if they ran out of MP they would seek out blue glims in the battlefield making it less likely I needed to reign them in. The only times in the whole game I used MP replenishing items were on 2 boss fights.

Also, the familiars don't have "default names" they have a pool of 4 nicknames you can pick from (press Triangle to swap between them). I wouldn't worry too much though about naming as later on you can do a quest to unlock the ability to change names (would have saved me a lot of time thinking of clever names).

Is there any way of acquiring a Stardrop around the time after finishing the trials/Old Smokey and before heading to Castaway Cove?

Pretty sure Shonky-Honkers (southeast desert wall) and Deep Frys (Old Smoky) can drop them.

I was always low on Stardrops the entire game, from my experience they seem to be the least common and most used of the drops. Although you will find more as you go, and the longer you wait to "evolve" the higher the stats of your familiar will be. So, if you're not in a rush to evolve your familiar it may be best to wait.

Should I evolve my Mite at the story point? I was hoping to get him leveled up a bit more...But it sounds like I need to to proceed.

So... does the game ever freeze for anyone else? Happened to me for the second time last night, after I had collected 2 scrolls of truth and not yet saved. FML

You have to, to proceed.

If it's any consolation the level 50 skill he won't learn isn't very good (if memory serves it's just
Ray of Light
)

Hasn't frozen on me yet, but this is the only game to have my PS3 make some strange disc drive noises occasionally. It makes me nervous so I save as often as possible haha.

I definitely used him. Amazing tank.

Am I the only one that just sits around stockpiling treats and spell gems? I've got hundreds, because I don't want to feed them to anyone because I'm always worried it might not be optimal and then I've wasted an item, or worse in the case of treats, where I've permanently messed up my familiar and can't undo it.

Maxwood

Oh rock of ages, do not crumble, love is breathing still. Oh lady moon shine down, a little people magic if you will.
I do keep one of every type, but that's about it. You can't mess up your familliars. :p

I'm using that tombstone familliar as well. Swaine. Second metamorphose.
212 defence, it's incredible.

Well just as an example, suppose I fed all Attack to my Dinoceros until his treats were maxed. Then I got to late game and are like OMG HE CAN'T HIT ANYTHING WHY DIDN'T I FEED HIM ACCURACY? Kinda screwed at that point, unless you go farm another one, aren't you?

On top of that, I don't even know if the familiars I'm using are the ones I'll be using later. What if I get to a really hard encounter later that needs specific familiars / abilities to ease the difficulty, and now I don't have any of the right treats left because I used them on someone else? I'm paranoid that will happen too.

I guess it comes to harmony. It's not like there's an unlimited supply of stuff, and I still haven't figured out what spells / treats harmonize best with which familiars, or for that matter even which familiars are the best.

I finished this game yesterday.

This is the only JRPG I have finished since the SNES era (and even then it was just Earthbound and Super Mario RPG).

My first impressions couldn't have been better. Amazing visuals, music, voice acting, and I thought the slow start was actually pretty engaging.

While some of that wears off, particularly as the voice acting starts becoming just text boxes, it was magical to the end. I'm glad I gave this one a shot.

Evolving when first possible is ok so long as: 1. You don't want to stat max, and 2. Your familiar got all the tricks you want from the current evolution.

The game isn't difficult enough to require treats, which is why I think Maxwood said you can't mess up your familiars. I've done almost everything in the game and all I've done treat/gem-wise is to feed some Chocolate to my Dino.

Edit: Personally I hate wasting power-up items as well (never using TMs in Pokemon, etc.), so other than the Chocolates I used nothing else, always afraid to waste haha.

I loved it a lot also, if you want more there is plenty of end game content like quests boss battles and arena battles!

I think its best to find what your familiar's favorite food is and then keep feeding that to them to max out the hearts. Every time you fill one, it increases the max # of bonus stat points in can have. Also most familiars gain extra active skill slots at either 3 hearts or 5 hearts

I think I am playing this game wrong. Ever since I got more than one party member the game is been getting progressively more irritating. Now that I just got the final party member yeah... basically whoever I'm not controlling dies if the enemies put up any resistance whatsoever. They always seem to ignore the 'tactics' I give them, never heal themselves, never NOT attack if I set it to "DON'T DO ANYTHING", they perpetually run of of MP. If I switch back and forth between characters they pull in their familiar right away which means I need to waste more time putting them back out.

It's a joke and frankly, I don't even know if I want to play the damn game anymore.

Man, that sucks... I've not had this much trouble, thankfully. Esther used to have trouble dying when I first got her, but that stopped quickly, thankfully. I find that they don't use their familiars if they aren't a type they want to use. If I switch away from Oliver, he always switches in a different familiar, for example.

I just got to the
Ivory Tower
and am around level 80. Good times, so far.

I never concerned myself too much with their actions. I just made sure they had strong familiars, and then refrained from interfering unless they died, had a chance to tame a new familiar I wanted, or needed HP/MP. From my experience, once their familiars get strong enough, it doesn't seem to matter, and they'll fare quite well in battle, regardless. I say this as someone who was over-leveled for pretty much the entire game, though. And I was at Level 85 when I fought the final boss, so that may have something to do with it as well. But I did have quite a lot of fun.

This gets a lot easier once you learn the
All Out Attack / All Out Defend Commands
very soon. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is give them each strong familiars in their first spot, for awhile my team was
Oliver - Mite, Esther - Drogo, Swaine - Thumbelemur
and they did alright.

Where am I supposed to use the 2 tickets for the familiars from the DLC? Is there a special in game shop for those? I got them in my inventory but didn't understand how to use them

The white witch part kind of felt just added in. It wasn't bad but the whole shadar ending kind of threw me off. I forgot about her when that happened lol. Felt like it could of just ended at shadar.

Probably because that's when the DS version ended.
