Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

Doing quests when over leveled makes some quests harder. I had to do the rainbow leaf one and it was a little tedious because everyone ran like hell as soon as I got detected. But, I'm gonna leave Coastal Cave and did all the sidequests available and got all the merit awards so far. Yay jumping.

Yeah that quest isn't hard but it is incredibly boring.

So speaking of which, I've started to get some of the alchemy formulae for what appear to be ultimate weapons / armor, and pretty much all of them require 5 scrolls of truth and/or 5 kaleidostones. Do they expect you to farm about 30 of each, or do they come from some other source later?

just beat it, biggest shocker was actually for me hearing the lyrics to the theme music during the credits. I thought it was just orchestral which has bee stuck in my head for the past week

edit: guess its not really a spoiler since all the lyrics are available :p

Farm, farm, farm.

Also, I've yet to find a decent familiar that isn't the story ones outside of the giant babana one, which is a fucking tank. Everyone else I've gotten their first and second forms are very underwhelming. Low pwr and def. Purrloiner seems like it would be decent much later on though. Is Hob-goblin or whatever it's name is worth getting?

Just received my copy in the mail today. I'm only up to that sewer level but I am super impressed so far. Being able to interact in a Ghibli universe seems like a dream come true. I also love how it retains all those JRPG hallmarks like the world map and town interaction. Truly makes it feel like a grand adventure. Does anybody know if this is selling well? Be a shame if it flopped considering how much effort and heart seems to be in it, as well as the fact that console JRPG's are such a rarity nowadays.

Translation

I ran after those clouds like white sheep
For I felt that one day I might reach the sky

It was you who taught me
That teardrops can
Give life to hope

I want to see you – Embrace me once again
Let’s go on a journey to find the fragments of our hearts
To a new world waiting on that shore far from sadness

Long long ago, the bonds of two people
Chose for me life, in that miracle called birth

On my despairing tears
You shined for me
A light of salvation

When I close my eyes I see your smile
I’ll be alright on my own, because really, you’re right here
So I’ll keep walking along this road, into the future

I want to see you – Embrace me once again
Let’s go on a journey to find the fragments of our hearts
To a new world wrapped in the light you once showed me

I must have listened to the song at least 30 times outside of the game, its very moving.

I beat the game, last bosses were all hella easy... first tried them :(

Also, first encounter with a Tokocold and i got to capture him. I guess he's equally as useless as Toko unless I spend an inordinate amount of time leveling him?

It's nice that there's post game content, though. Really swell

Any last impressions?

Huh? Did you only use one save over and over again? I have about 13 or so saves, each usually in one location before each Boss fight.

You know what, when it happened with Dragons Dogma I was so pissed that Capcom forced you into using just 1 save file ...... then Ni No Kuni comes around, and guess what?? I just used 1 save file :(

I will never be doing this again

Also I have to say I'm pissed but not that bad, I was going through the motions at this point and really just wanted to end the game, skipping fmvs and that ...... I'll never beat the White Witch, but it would have been worse if it happened mid way through the game when i was really enjoying it.

Does Napcap have 99 levels for every form? Because i've heard that it's really only worth it if you max out every form before using metamorphosis.

Man, talk about a cock tease... Found a gold tokotoko and was super excited... until I finished the battle and only got 133 EXP. Turns out the Toko family isn't good to you in gold form for exp. Toko is 3 exp, Tokotoko is only 5... Didn't check Tokocold, but going by that progression, likely only 8 or 9 exp. Oh well.

I really hate that there is no quick way to complete these post-game "tasks." Tedious.

Man screw that trail. If there's something I didn't want to do in a rpg, it's the emotional equivlant of patting my head and rubbing my stomach at the same time.

Because is a friendship trial I ask my GF to move the left stick while I moved the right one... great idea Level 5, great idea...

The gold ones give you lots of gold.

Finally got to the Casino, and Platoon now owns my life. So much fun.

I had no idea what I was doing and managed to crush the person on my first go!
Anyone able to link what the familiar tickets you can win look like?
Slots were fun till I lost 2/3rds of my bets.
Blackjack is easier and faster but the amount of times ive sworn at the TV when Ive gone bust is quite high haha

Oh yeah and where aare these huge xp giving monsters at? Ive just healed Denny for an idea as to how far I am in the game.

One familiar is like a chick, and the other is a robot that you would've fought on the same island as the casino.
As for the huge xp giving monsters, you can find Tokos at Ugly Ducking Island. Keep using gateway to make familiars respawn/change. The one you want is a green familiar holding a staff. You need to sneak up to it though or at least make it run towards the cliff.

Ah ok so only one of them you cant find in the wild? and where abouts is that island?
Also whats the deal with all these bloody forests with 2-3 people that say more or less nothing? Is it story related or something else?
Fair few questions as I had the day off yesterday and went from fairy isle to Denny lol

Any last impressions?

I really liked it, give it a 8.5/10. I'd say some issues involve early game MP balancing on Swaine and Esther, too long to get going in-game before you unlock the real meat of the battle system and a game whose difficulty is really on balanced for early game, once you get past a certain point it gets easier and easier until you really don't require strategy to get by... even though the battle system certainly offers it, if you like.

Things that irritated me especially by the end was Drippy's endless commentary every time I was going to get a heart, telling me exactly what I should have done (ex: "I think this guy's low on ambition, Oliver! Let youer magic fly and fix his brokenheartedness"), which is pretty symbolic of the general problem with the writing and story... simplistic to the extreme, yet the game is always interjecting to tell you exactly what's-what anyway.

But all these complaints aside, wonderful little game... gorgeous, pleasure to the ears, engaging battle system when you really pick it apart... fun selection of sidequests and interesting secrets. It's a nice little gem.

I liked how there was some references to Ghibli/Level 5 stuff. There was probably loads more than I noticed as I'm not a Ghibli expert.

I saw references to Dark Cloud (a trick), My Neighbour and Castle in the Sky. Thought that was cool.

Got the ability to tame familiars a couple of nights ago,

I am encountering the same issue I have with Pokemon games, I want to level up all of them.

Decided to stick for the time being with Little big Horn + Bonehead (glad I was able to get this one) and a napcap (kinda useless for the moment)

I read somewhere that the Little big Horn caps at 25, is this for the first level or for the entire game?

Also, is anyone using the fairy looking familiar you get early on? I found very useful in the dessert due to the water bomb skill.

Regarding grinding I really dont mind it, the combat system has a nice balance that makes things move smoothly.

Now if I can get the pirate cat and a naja I'd be set.

AHAHAHAHA. Stupid
snake
. All size and no brain. All I had to do to beat him was to run around and circle around him as Oliver, casting spells.

I also love the daylight robbery known as Platoon. I do wish I have more courage to play with bigger stake than 5000 chips though. But better be safe than sorry.

Is there anything on the HUD to indicate if you've already caught a familiar?

You can consult the Telling Stone and go to the Creature Compendium. Any creature with a heart in it means you already tamed it.

Yeah I do kind of wish I hadn't overleveled so I could continue to enjoy the game's challenge on bosses. Oh well.

Finally completed the game and oh god, easily the best JRPG this gen for me! And the story in this game has many unexpected events as well, very well done. Now onto completing the rest of the side quests, collecting the stamps are so addicting :p

Is there a familiar guide you guys use that is worthwhile? I'm not really sure what I should be feeding these things, all I know is that my Mite LOVES chocolate. Nothing else I've been feeding my familiars makes hearts pop up over their heads.

Loving this game, going to be sad when it's over.

...... I haven't had any trouble before with any boss fight, but this one is driving me crazy :\

26 hours in and I'm at the
Ice Cave
to get one of the three
stones
.... you know which boss I'm talking about, it's the freaking
Cerboreas
.

This boss HP is 6000+ and My attacks only damage him 30+ with the Fireball and 100+ with the Hot Huff.... at this rate it will take forever to kick his @$$... only if I didn't get mine kicked first which of course always happens... and oh never once I got a chance to preform a miracle.

What should I do? how can I make this boss fight easier?

btw I didn't do any side quest at all.

Just fought that boss yesterday around those levels. Um, I didn't really have problems so I'm not sure what to suggest. I have a zombie familiar which is on it's final transformation and it has learned Heat Ray I think it is, which is a death laser basically. I gave it to Swaine and he was wrecking in that fight.

You just need to defend when the boss does that howling blizzard attack. Call all out defense and defend on Oliver/familiar. If everyone is defending a golden glim or two will pop out. Just have Oliver grab it as his miracle move is that fire blast thing.

Ice monster = weak to fire is basically my advice. :p
Also have Oliver cast ward periodically. All those ice attacks can add up.

I think I'm nearing the end of the game. Currently in
Nevermore
. Could someone confirm if there's a point-of-no-return in this game? Preferably, I'd like to beat it and then try to complete the game. Already done all of the sidequests that are available up till now, but I'm talking about alchemy and monster taming. Will the game let me continue after the credits, or can I load a savefile right before the final boss or something?

I beat this boss yesterday. I think the vendor in Yule sells blazing swords. I gave those to Mitey and Puss in Boats and the boss was pretty cake. Maybe it's worth upgrading your gear and get the fire swords for some of your familiars.

i think the point of no return is
The Ivory Tower
and the strat guide's suggested lvl is 60

There isn't a point of no return, you can leave any dungeon anytime, and if you beat the entire story you will just have a post-game save where you can continue playing.

Post-game (after the credits) unlocks even more quests/alchemy/monsters-to-tame.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
55 hours in, about to enter the
Ivory Tower
. Being snowed in the past few days has its advantages (I basically played this all weekend) :p Looked at the postgame content, I'll probably finish up the sidequests/hunts (have done every single one so far, including the annoying Derwyn ones), and then go for a few more trophies. Not going for the alchemy/250 familiar ones though... since they seem to be way too consuming.

What level should I be on to S-rank the coliseum? Is grinding tokotokos by Perdida the best idea to build up? I'm at 58 now.

I beat S-rank without much issue at about level 90 with my team. The best place to level grind is near the end of the
Ivory Tower
fighting Tokotocolds (3x the exp of a Tokotoko). I ran up and down the last C shape fighting every battle, and fought at least 1 each up/down. Also, I seemed to fight more Tokotocolds post-game.
