Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

Finally, got Platinum. Took 72hrs and 30mins. And with that, I'm done with this game. Hope they bring the DS version out as an enhanced port on 3DS or just digitally on the eShop.

Good job Mike! I don't know if I'll have the patience to get the Platinum. I've been having fun catching familiars though.

In the DS version
it's nothing more than a tragic accident.

I see. So his best friend reaction makes more sense. It's a bit odd how they then never mentioned again in the ps3 version the fact that she was responsible for the accident. ALso overall, I felt his best friend character was quite underused

Started this yesterday with my gf and it's a perfect game to play with someone who doesn't play videogames that much. She felt so bad killing enemies, because they all look cute. The production values are off the charts... the wizards companion is just blowing my mind and I almost wish I bough the expensive edition for it. Then again the digital version is done with such care, that it doesn't bother me.

When I zoomed into a pic of a familiar and it turned into a video: head exploded.

First next gen JRPG for me.

Probably a secret hidden sidequest I know of the one near
Ding Dong Dell
that I accidentally stumbled into that was never mentioned on the errand board. There must be more but that's the only one I've encountered so far

What type of monster would you guys recommend for a good caster magic type? More on the offensive side if possible.

I just bought this yesterday. I've been wanting to play it for a long time but didn't have my PS3 with me.. in the end I bought a 2nd hand PS3 just to play Ni No Kuni.

Only an hour in. Graphics and art direction are GORGEOUS. Music is great. It's very pretty and aesthetically wonderful. Seems like typical JRPG gameplay but we'll see.

Post-game time! Already did most of the quests, aside from the alchemy one, and a few of the hunts. I would like to attempt the 1000 battles/2000 glims achievement and thought that I would have had both a LONG time ago... (yes, I know you need to have the controlling familiar pick up the glims for it to count towards the 2000)... anyways is there a way to see the number of battles/glims you have? I know certain RPGs do stuff like this usually hidden away in an out-of-the-way NPC.

I'm fairly certain there is nowhere either is listed. Although you will get the 1000 battles long before you get the 2000 glims (at least I did). Also the glims you auto-collect at the end of battle do count towards the 2000 total. In fact I just got the 2000 glims the other night, and I have already completed every quest (but the alchemy one), almost have the 250 familiar trophy, and my entire main party is max level (4th teammate is almost there). You are probably a lot further away than you think to the 2000 glims.

The only extra info I have found so far was at the Casino actually, some guy tells you the number of times you have been wiped out... Which was 9 in my case... cough cough. And I am afraid that was before going to that awful final boss

Finished the story and a lot of the side quests (4 bonusses not gotten). Was pretty fun(7.5-8/10ish), not my JRPG of the X-ever, though.

+
- art style
- truly fantastic soundtrack (even though having only one battle theme for most of the game was kinda stingy)
- decent story (i guess...)

-
- bad story delivery (did not feel anything all game long)
- unsatisfactory combat system
- JP voice acting is adequate, but not superb (standout performances by dark djinn, and 1-2 other characters)
- RNG with regard to capturing (so unbalanced I was completely overleved around 10 hours into the game)

Just started playing the PS3 version, having already played about an hour into the DS one previously.

I definitely prefer the DS one so far. Just in terms of the way the story is presented. The White Witch stuff feels tacked on so far, and I kind of liked in the DS one how it was a completely mundane story until Drippy turned up. The PS3 one already has Drippy in a cut scene before the game even really begins. I'm glad I got the element of surprise when I played the DS one, having the big reveal of the other world when you actually go there for the first time rather than it being showed and referenced much earlier and quite obviously.

Just a thought.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but this is on sale at Amazon for $49.99, the guide is also back in stock for $23.99.

I'm at a loss on how to find some of the formulae in this game. I have 100% task completion now, and 100% wizard's companion, but I don't have: 16, 21, 26, 31, 36, 41, 61, 71, 74, 80, 96, 107, 112. Any ideas?

Just beat a Ulk didn't think I'd make it for a minute. Also is that Golden tin-man in the casino really gold? Do the evolved forms stay gold too?

Been meaning to start this for days but thanks to someone leaving a huge unmarked spoiler in a completely unrelated thread I've been trying (and failing) to purge it from my memory. I can't help myself though and I've tippy-toeing around this thread and seams the general consensus is this game is huge so fingers crossed I've not been spoiled too much.

I want to know what you think when you finish.

Yes and yes.

well yesterday i decided on Ni No Kuni instead of MG Rising, love RPGs and seeing "Howl's Moving Castle" in the TOP 250 of IMDb peak my insterest, played 2 hours yesterday and im already amazed and realized thats been a while since i played a game that doesnt involves violence and death that it is a TPS or FPS, im tired of those genres, i hope they die xD .

Also named my character Atreyu since the game reminds me a bit of "The Neverending Story" movie.

Hey guys, just wanted to give a heads up - I posted up the newest episode of Gamesies last night, and in honor of Ni No Kuni being our game of the month, we're giving away the steelbook case to a gaffer (plus some other assorted games/swag). The contest is gaffers-only:

We've also got a pretty awesome remix of the NNK theme from GAF's own AgentWhiskers.

I didn't tame the Fire Fry or the Salamander in The Road To Ruin, so am I screwed with getting the Familiarologist trophy? Sorry if this has been asked already.

Nope, there are more than 300 familiars to tame, so you're good.

Plus, those are later forms, so you can still morph those guys.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
I finished the game today. I thought the AI complaints were overblown until I reached the last stretch of the game, but a lot of the frustrating came from the overlapping pathways for bigger creatures and the spell interruption. Not sure if I really like how they clumped nearly the whole story until so late in the game either, but how a story is presented in games doesn't usually bother me too much. My biggest problem was still the one I had from very early on, which was the capturing system. I still had a lot of fun with the game though since I knew I was going in this for the Ghibli presentation and Hisaishi music. The overworld was absolutely beautiful and I really loved how the towns had that Ghibli feel. If I were to start nitpicking I would have to say the graphics in the towns/dungeons were a noticeable step down from the overworld and I though Level 5 could have some better sometimes. Also, I wish there was more Ghibli cut-scenes. :p

so i've been trying to tame a toko...will i ever get one? ; ;

Depends how random the system wants to be really. I didn't have to spend too long trying to get one. I'm not even sure if I'll be training the one I got since it takes a lot of experience to level up. Took me a lot longer to get other familiars though, so it really depends on you luck in the game regardless of the percentage.

Anyway, despite ranting a bit I just had to point out that I wouldn't have finished this so quickly if I wasn't enjoying it. I'd easily recommend it as one of the RPGs that fans should check out from this of console generation.

The key for me was not trying. It's like the game knows I'm trying to catch a familiar.

I got one. I don't know how....

By the way, catching 250 familiars kinda doesn't sound hard. Like, I want to try it. Catching an evolving them to their third form counts as 3, so it doesn't seem hard....

Make sure to change them into a harder to obtain final form so you can just catch the second final form. For example change your Minor Byrde into a Firebyrde because chances are you'll be grinding Tokotokos and that area is filled with Thunderbyrdes.

I got my copy a few days ago, but only just fired it up today, it makes a pretty impressive first impression. It's surprisingly dark for what is seemingly aimed firmly at children.

The combat in this game hasn't quite clicked with me yet. I don't think I'm a big fan of these hybrid action/turn based systems. I find myself running around like a madman to try and dodge attacks, but then I select attack and my familiar runs in a straight line right toward the mob and takes several smashes in the face while doing so.

just got the
mornstar wand
and grinded a few levels from tokos

oliver is at lv 40 while everyone else is 38ish

most of my familiars are either fully evolved or ready to go into their final evolution

my only fear is that i leveled up to fast and now the game wont be as much of a challenge

Finally got a dinoceros. Went to Perdida immediately to kill some tokotoko's. Got lucky and got 9 of them in 2 minutes. So now my dinoceros is pretty damn OP.

I got this a little while back, but have only been able to sink my teeth in over the last few days. The game is so charming, it just makes me smile.
