Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

Thought Oliver's voice actor was an adult female.

In Japan, maybe. :p He's a regular male child actor in the Western version. I think most of them come from British TV, actually.

Well, I can see that this game is probably going to piss me off and I'll likely be playing it infrequently while everything that doesn't induce aneurysms with outdated gaming mechanics is being released.

Do people not like the lack of save points in most games that much? Or is it something else...? 'Cause I see the 'outdated gaming mechanic' thing reaaalllly often (not about this game necessarily).

He's exaggerating a bit, because there is a save point in there, the puzzles are far from hard and restoring MP off of monsters is pretty easy.

Games like Lunar did it right - save anywhere. I despise losing progress, especially in an RPG where I'm dedicating a large amount of my time to them. Also, if I'm in the middle of a dungeon and I need to stop for whatever reason I could just pop a save in Lunar and then shut off the console. In a game like this, I have to back track all the way out or try to find the save point, hope I don't die, and then save which is a huge waste of time.

For the old school hardcore RPG'rs, they may prefer this, but it's just that - an outdated mechanic that's not a necessary addition in regards to difficulty. You can make the game plenty difficult without adding in artificial difficulty with infrequent save points.

You can pretty much save anywhere in Ni no Kuni except in dungeons. I think it's a pretty normal occurrence in games really... to be able to save anywhere in a dungeon seems so odd to me.

Who was the localization director for this game?

Richard Honeywood, it seems.

one card: wont work! we wont tell you why. sorry!

other card: unable to add funds right now.

even though the sony website. They really don't want my money.

I'm still so early on that I still enjoy every encounter. Once I've got the battle system mastered that might change, but so far enemies seem pretty easy to ignore, at least on the world map.

Man, this game is so damn fun. I should have been to bed 2 hours ago but I couldn't stop playing. Everything about it is amazing, the combat is fun as hell.

Glad I bought the WE now! Picked up the regular edition while I wait on the WE, so much fun. Think I'll put the Drippy plushy on my desk at work.

I have a bit of a dilemma....I am about to finish Persona 3 FES (major backlog), and also White Knight Chronicles. I was looking to the start Persona 4 Golden on Vita or WK2, but I was thinking about picking this up instead. What would everyone recommend?

play PS4G, skip WKC2 and get this game.

Alright GAF, I confess I've had this game for 5 hours but haven't played it yet. Wasn't in the mood to game for some reason and didn't want to tarnish my first impressions so I just held off. I'll wake up early to play.

With the glims found in battle, there really should be little worry of HP/MP in this game... Granted, I am slightly over-leveled, I don't think I have needed to heal once, especially since save points heal you.

Goodness, this game is... good.

walked into my Gamestop and picked it up without a pre-order but it was one of two left and some other older guy behind me grabbed the last copy. The idiot worker asked me what the big deal was and wanted to know why the characters look like a kids cartoon. UGH

I tried to work him over for a steelcase but said they only had enough for some of the pre-orders and could not cover everyone as is.

Anyways.. the game is fantastic. I love everything about it so far.

this is why I fell in love with this genre.

I have had a smile on my face for hours.

This is not going to be an all time greatest RPG - even the reviews have said that the story is pretty much run of the mill.

The game may look pretty and have nice music, but if the story doesn't stand out from the rest then it's going to be an unmemorable game down the road.

heh, so I tried to add via paypal now. A different error.

"We're sorry, but your payment resulted in an error. The problem has been reported to our operational staff and will be fixed as soon as possible. Please select another payment method or try again at a later time."

They dont want me to buy. :( I'll shut up now lol. So much fury.

I'm on the fence of just getting amazon prepaid cards but then I'd be forced to pay 15$ extra.

I disagree. I have specific RPGs I love above others but I couldn't breathe a word of what the story was in any of them heh.

I really want to know the sales. Humble surprise? Next Demon's Souls? Standard flop?

Should probably do well. Futureshop.ca and bestbuy.ca are sold out online. I dont see that often. Its probably that they didnt order enough copies more than selling like gangbusters, but i still think it will do well.

Where does this rank on the "all time greatest RPGs" list for you guys?
I'm going to guess when you put it like THAT it own't even crack the top ten, maybe not even top twenty, but I may yet be surprised!

Humble surprise, next Demon's Souls if we're lucky. If it's a flop then something's gone horribly wrong given there's reports of 20 or so pre-orders at GameStops and it's been #1 on Amazon until the FarCry 3 sale pulled the rug out from under it, and it's still at 3 despite that, effectively 2nd since the first two are FC3.

I don't think that'll matter if gameplay's exceptional or it otherwise stands out spectacularly, just look at Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and maybe the Elder Scrolls games. This sounds like it has enough gameplay hiccups to not hit that either though.

I can barely remember what the heck was happening in Suikoden, but it's still a memorable game for me based on the art and characters.

I'm a couple of hours in, around where the first part of the demo takes place and man the game looks and sounds amazing enjoying every minute of it.

I just completed the first couple of hours of this and I can easily say that this is one of the best games I've played in a while. The production values are as breathtaking and charming as I'd expect from a Ghibli film. Everyone needs to play this game!

Just wanted to say this is the most magical gaming experience I have had since Chrono Trigger. This game just has that indescribable something about it that makes you feel pure joy.

Buy this game.

I've been playing for about two hours, the game is incredible so far. Besides looking amazing, the voice work and writing are surprisingly great, too.

The local Target was sold out and Best Buy hadn't stocked it yet, so I decided to buy the game on PSN. Three hours later and my download is at 7% on the larger of two downloads. Day 1 download is going to allow me to start playing around Day 3.

Welcome to my world. I swear, they must allocate bandwidth by a queue system or something because I had literally downloaded just under 400 MB in an hour. I came back to it and the first 5.6 GB download was done and I'm currently 33% of the way through the 16 GB download and it's just flying.

So, yeah, no idea.

Oh, and don't try to play the game with just the 5.6 GB portion installed - it'll just tell you that it's not installed correctly :p So much for that idea.

I do want to see the inverse, since if our guesses are right that could well be the core game. Probably still won't work though since the International versions probably assume the extra content IS there, or at least wasn't QA'd to see what happen if it wasn't.

Funny I just said on my twitter! "Ni No Kuni is magically. Really hits a sweet spot for me!"

Totally agree though! So damnnn gooooddd.

Holy smokes this game is great! I got to the cat king and did that quest but I have to be up early tomorrow.

As someone said, this feels like the first real jrpg on HD consoles. Maybe I'm wrong and missed some but this is where I imagined jrpgs going in the future. Great looking, lots of side quests, stat tracking for monsters killed, Pokemon style creature helpers, etc etc. a lot of little things that I love to see

Can't say the story is too cookie cutter tbh. Not like you're some outlaw who plays by his own rules but god dammit gets the job done. I like the story, characters and world so far. The Cthulhu looking villain is cool although I've only seen the portrait from early in the game

If you like jrpgs or want to experience one for the first time in a long time then you won't be disappointed

My only gripe so far is that they don't give you the option to toggle the quest indicator at the top of the screen when you stand still.

I agree with everything everyone is saying. The game is an amazing delight. It's what I've been waiting for in my JRPG's

I do think not having a proper game in the genre (that feels wrong to say because there have been some gems this gen) has really allowed a game like this to come out of left field and take everyone's imagination again.

For a long time I thought we would never get another RPG like we did in the golden years. Well I was wrong Ni No Kuni is that game and damn If it doesn't feel right.

Light up the second one first, then the third, then the first in this order. It kinda sucks that doing this causes lost of MP but it kinda reminds me of old JRPG's that did that, which I like.

EDIT: I'm sorry if I'm screwing up the game by answering this question, but I didn't know how to do spoiler tags. Could someone tell me how to?

You don't have to use caps really. It's just a habit of mine. Looks cleaner to me.

Also, I booted up the demo to refresh my memory of how the game looks after OrbitingCow made it seem like the ugliest thing ever. I don't see it at all. It's not blurry to me. And it's not THAT jaggy.

Played for 7 hours straight... I haven't done that since I played Minecraft for the first time back in the alpha state days.

The game is truly amazing.

Met my first familiar, the Mite "Percival". We're kicking ass and taking names.

I think my first and only complaint so far is NPCs repeat their idle chatter too often.

abilities that are gained by doing Hunts/tasks and completing cards such as more Hp/Mp orbs during battle, do they activate automatically?

same here.
I just completed everything in Ding Dong Dell. I haven't used a single item in battle yet, have no idea whats up with some of the reviews. Game is giving me no hassle.

Enemies were running from me at that point in Ding Dong Dell, nearly got wiped 2 battles into the desert area.
