NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

From reading other posts, I realize that Route C and onwards is fascinating in that it tends to either get people really into the game if they weren't particularly feeling Route A/B, or gets people who already love it really into the game.

The way I ended up looking at it was that route A is pretext, route B is context, and route C is the real game.

I mean, after finishing route A I had a few reservations regarding pacing and events happening, and then route B happened and I stopped thinking that (because I got what they were going for) and route C downright floored me.

Just finished Ending E.

I'll be honest I loved Ending E meta stuff, but didn't really liked the added story part. Felt way too much deus ex machina.

Overall Automata was a real experience and GOTY material for sure.

C definitely starts like "NOW, THIS IS FOR REAL", but in reality it's basically the second half of the game - there's only one real new 'area', I'm not gonna count the resource units, they're kind of gimmicky.

I enjoyed both halves but C does feel a little sloppy at times. The endings, especially E, make up for it.

What made the zombie machines in the basement take over the Amusement park?
They didn't take over. The machines in the park got a dose of the logic virus, much like Pascals villagers (which is actually curious, because the villagers were supposed to be cut off from the network. I guess we'll never know what the vector for that particular infection was.)

I was really surprised as how easy it was to get the Platinum for this game. I bought the Pod upgrade trophy, but that's because those materials are annoying to find and I'm pretty sure I got locked out of one of the Powerup Parts. Almost everything else was completed while I worked towards completion and the endings are mostly entertaining.

like dynasty warriors 2 but worse and panzer dragoon but worse, deliberately made to be the most frustrating slog of a game ever

It was NOT deliberate and people need to stop pushing this myth. Cavia was trying to copy Dynasty Warriors and did it terribly, Taro had admitted this multiple times.

This game wouldn't exist w/o platinum. They wanted to make a Nier sequel.

Do you have a source? Certain late game levels involving hallways, dudes with big shields that knock you down and too many enemies really struck me that someone had to be taking the piss and making this bad on purpose.

My biggest gripe with the game is the trailer. That trailer that plays if you don't touch anything on the main menu for a while.

So many damn Spoilers. Legit dialogue and visuals from the last minutes of the game in there. >~<

Of all the things to get from the original game why did the spoiler heavy trailer have to be one.

It's good that you don't realize that it's a spoiler city until you actually play though it

Man, the prologue of route C(no story spoiler)
felt like a Metal Gear opening, bring tears to my eye. That's as close as we're ever getting to Rising 2. ;__;

I suspected it was spoilery but I had no context to place anything to it. And if it does serve a good purpose, it's that it shows Route B and C, which might lead players to keep playing because it shows scenes they haven't gotten to yet.

^^ Yeah, I was going to mention just that. It has material that could be spoilery, but it is cut in a way where it is mostly just audiovisual noise with no chronology or context and hides all kinds of important details that make all the difference.. You need to have played the parts before most of that makes any kind of sense. Thus it actually spoils very little.

You're spoiler-tagging a non-spoiler in the spoiler thread? I guess that weirdness is fitting for a NieR thread.

Yoko Taro's been doing this since forever

Drakengard (straight up has later endings in it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzOLf8l_K4E

Nier (ending C/D stuff, opening line is from halfway through the game, lots of stuff from the game's second half): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8XTbluLDyE

Drakengard 3 (has parts of the last stage in the entire game in it): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DphzJNaE1Yo

The vocals during the final credits when help arrives was such a great touch.

Man, what a fucking game. Up until the third act I really loved how weird it was, but was just sort of smiling and nodding along with those who knew more than me. But holy shit, that third act.

Easily one of the memorable and thus, my favorite games of this generation so far.

FYI that choir was the whole development team including yoko taro.

It was actually quite amazing to watch that stream live, play the game trying to spot which song it might be and, then, right there at the end, go "ah, so it was here. How very fitting." Heck, all of the crew who sang in that are actually listed in the credits separately for that song in addition to whatever else their role might have been.

I have been trying to get to a chest in the amusement park. You can see it as you platform up a broken down ride.

I can't jump to it and even tried the bottom to see if another way.

(wow the non compressed copies look worse...it doesn't look like that ingame or on my steam lol)

I got up there by jumping off that grey triangular support section just below 9S in the picture.

Add: as mentioned below, fall off the ride to the ground first for normal navigation

You have to get there from under the ride with the normal 3d camera not 2d.

I tried there, so must be my horrible platforming skills >.<

Equip a combat bracer in your heavy weapon slot, and do a launcher(heavy attack just after starting a jump), then at the height of that, double jump.

If it helps, you can land on the metal arms connected to the cars, then just jump across those til you reach the platform.

If you attack almost immediately after jumping, you get a big boost and retain your double jump. Really useful for a few parts, like not having to move the box all the way for Masamune.

What's a doable level for Emil? I've been trying to do the Platinum as honest as possible (at least getting the weapons)

I'm currently at 67, I know he's 99. Sometimes the level doesn't matter much but I've definitely had times in the game where I fight an enemy too early (Father Servo black belt) where I'm not even chipping them

First fight, 80+ if you don't want to get destroyed by the projectiles in one-two shots. If you're at the second fight already, you don't need to be much higher. There's a lot more room to dodge.

You might as well level up with 9S against the golden rabbit in the Amusement Park, then take him on.

Alright, 80 sounds good. I'll keep chipping away at the game over the next few days

I need to get back to my backlog, especially Yakuza....... Horizon/Nioh/Gravity Rush/Berserk cast aside

So did I get this right :

A2s a first generation YoRHa model who had to finish off her comrades because they were all infected with the logic virus ?

How does she know that YoRHa is a lie and that 2B's entire purpose was to thwart 9S ?

Is YoRHa model 2 (A2,2B/E) all basically the same thing but with adjustments ?

The logic virus is basically a switch that once flipped allows the war to perpetuate needlessly ?

I don't understand how 2B was meant to oppose 9S.Or is the model that we play as an anomally that refused to obey these orders ?

If 9S model is so potentially problematic.....Why didn't they discontinue production like they did with A2 ?

1. Uhh, I forget. All I recall is that she was supposed to die that day as well. I thought it was Anemone who put everyone down though.

2. The machine network told them about Project YoRHa's true purpose. As for 2B, she absorbed her memories, I assumed that's how she found out that 2B is actually 2E.

3. A2 is a prototype for 2B/2E, but they decided to keep her likeness.

4. It's just a virus that makes them go crazy basically. The war perpetuates through various means. Project YoRHa was their way of continuing the loop this time around.

5. She gets orders to kill 9S whenever he has found out the truth of Project YoRHa. So she just...kills him. This is aided by the fact that she accompanies him in order to follow him closely in order to make sure he doesn't find out, as well as the fact that 9S is programmed to have a fondess for 2B to begin with.

6. His model is extremely useful in the war effort, with all dem hacking skills and what not. So from their perspective, as long as they have safety measures such as 2E and the ability to wipe his memory, things would go smoothly.

1- Basically A2 team was a guinea pig to test the logic virus and tweak future versions
2- As for the 2B being 2E there is a book A2 reads in the library and is interrupted from saying the shocking revelation by the boss fight IIRC. She absorbed also 2B memories so that also probably goes into play.
3- 2B has been killing 9S for a few years and she grows tired of killing him and actually feels bad about doing it.
4- 9S gathers good information and is great with his tools so they use him as they see fit and when he reaches the truth he is killed or reset his memories to start with other things.

Is 2B killing 9S something that happens offscreen before the game ?

In the beginning of Route A,well,9S suggested using the blackbox ,and she didn't show any ill intentions ,and at the end ,2B stops the moment he bounces back out of the corruption.

Sure the 2B's at the tower in the end tried to kill him ,but ....
I just don't see how (our)2B had any intentions to kill 9S ? I feel like there's something I am missing here.

What an intriguing story..

Yes, it has happened multiple times off-screen. There's even a translated novella that features one of those times. Remember her opening line of wanting to kill god? She's sick of this shit.

The black box and her strangling 9S at the end of Route A/B aren't part of the kills she's ordered to do. However, it still hurts her because she hates to see him die over and over again. With the black box moment specifically, she was pissed afterwards back on the bunker, because he had lost his memories again. She likes being able to keep his memories for as long as humanly possible, and would very much prefer to not have to kill him so learning that he died and wasn't able to backup his memories made her ball up her fist as a very subtle tell of her being angry.

Yeah i was thinking about it as well.

My theory is since robots and androids' materials were recycled from each other (even machine cores) the logic virus started to effect robots and androids alike.

Makes sense why most of the resistance weren't affected, since in a way they were the 'original' models.

Oh my this story is so great. Its all coming together now.

Her rage at the beginning of Route A makes sense now.

Yes, yes, realize retrospectively how great Route A/B were haha. The "kill God" line, the sudden shift from her coldness to her becoming rather comfortable with him during the Goliath fight ("Shut up!", "It was an honor to fight with you", etc.), the obvious BS of her "emotions are prohibited" spiel that she's only applying to herself (see how 9S, Operator 60, etc. are very emotional) because she's bottling up her feelings regarding the situation she's in, her seemingly out-of-character usage of 9S' nickname "Nines", etc. etc.

Also there's a sidequest called Amnesia that even foreshadows that the Type-E models are a thing, and she acts rather suspiciously...

Just started Chapter 3. Decided to redo my chips. I read auto hide hud and went "wait, what situations?" Equipped it.... no change. Well okay. Then I got to 9S, holy fuck.
What does it do? I was curious about that

Affects hacking I'm assuming?

EDIT: Now I'm confused but ok! Haha

I can't remember too clearly, but does anyone but 2B actually bring up the prohibited emotions thing? If not, that would be another one of the signs.

Nope, just her. Pretty sure she never says anything of the sort to Operator 60 either. And when you're on the bunker, you see the YoRHa units clearly have personality to spare.
