Ninja Gaiden II: The Official GAF Thread of Chaos

god I'm having a love affair with Black right now. I decided to upgrade that lunar staff and not only has metal been added, but also awesomeness. These little fiends are shedding pints of green blood.

tried the nunchakus too, but the old saying is confirmed yet again. 'Nunchucks: cool, but useless'

I will say that that the one big flaw is the camera. It's not just bad, it's terrible

Wow owned, check out the changes to the Xbox.com Ninja Gaiden 2 page.

The nunchakus are so not useless.

They guard break with practically every hit.

Their attack radius extends behind you at all times, so if you can manage a constant string of combos, enemies can't hit you from behind while you're doing it.

They take longer to kill because they do less damage, but once you knock an enemy down, they stay down, and you can just unload combos onto them. When you're facing higher level ninjas or cat demons on hard, this is a lifesaver.

yeah I haven't tested them extensively but I like the lunar a lot better so far, I need some reach

Lack of a demo is kinda worrying. I'm really starting to wonder if they're simply trying to cover up the "mid-action loading and framerate drops" word of mouth.

Yes, the Lunar is glorious. Especially when you decapitate 3 guys with one combo (fully upgraded version). Also, it's great for the flying scythe-wielders in the monastery. Use your Y attacks to swat them to the ground.

Make sure you grab as many scarabs as you can, though, so you can get the Dabilahro as early as possible. You'll love it. Imagine Cloud's sword from FF7, only replace the emo with bloodlust.

GOD I FUCKING LOVE NINJA GAIDEN WHY DO I STILL HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK???

About a week and a half ago someone asked Itagaki when the demo would hit, and he said "June 3rd". People assumed there was some sort of misunderstanding in the interview at the time, but who knows.

Yes, but way before that the site was already hyping the demo "in May", and now it's removed. If the demo is done and MS isn't putting it up until release day even though they previously intended on putting it up in May, that doesn't sound like good news to me!

Watching the shacknews videos..I'm kind of angry that NO ONE TOLD ME THERE WAS A GIANT CASTLE FILLED WITH MOTHERFUCKING WEREWOLVES. So awesome.

Or maybe the demo is ass in terms of repping the game?

sweet, can't wait. I have 7 scarabs so far, already traded in the first 5 for a bracelet

btw what's weird: in the cgi Ryu is wearing his kickass black outfit, but back ingame I have the lame purple suit

the purple suit thing is a glitch, I forgot how you activate it though.

just did some searching

"Play your game up until the save before the Ch2 boss, then quit back to the menu (having saved there obviously), then go to the load screen, and costume select the black leather one that he wears on the cover of the game (the one he is supposed to change to) and load your game and keep playing. When you get to Ch3 you should still be wearing the blue cloth one from the first 2 chapters."

aaand I did just that :lol I remember vividly going back to the main screen before the horseman boss, checking out costumes and loading a game again. there's like a 1% chance you would do exactly what is described there, but lo and behold :(

If anything they are probably just taking as much time as needed to make sure the demo is awesome. As we already know there's a big difference between the review copies and the retail copies (loading, framerate, etc..) and I'm sure any demo existing in May would have been based off the Review copy code.

if anyone interested, here is the message that was sent to reviewers regarding framerate/loading issues:

it happened with Lost Odyssey as Kevin already stated.

This is why you should never blindly trust reviews. If there is indeed a difference between the retail copy and the review copy then these journos should revisit the review in order to make it more accurately reflect the game that EVERYONE else will be playing.

Either that or publishers need to stop sending out crappy review copies.

I highly doubt that, it's most likely finished and awaiting MS's certification.

No we don't know that. We're just hoping it's true. No one has played a retail version yet. MS reps saying it's so doesn't make it so.

So the idea that "mastering the camera" has been a fundamental gameplay pillar from the start, as noted in the Sci-Fi review, is laughable.

No one said that was fundamental for the series (clearly the original NG was designed to have the least amount of camera control as possible), but rather it seems to be essential for the sequel.

Actually Eurogamer IIRC said they played the retail copy not mentioning some of the load time issues that CVG notes from the review copy. This would be in-line with Blim's thoughts on the matter as well.

Eurogamer also confirms that there are framerate drops and occasionally getting stuck in bosses. Sounds disappointing either way!

Frame-rate is a persistent issue, and while a little slowdown can actually look quite cool in places, it's not so great when it prevents you from pulling off a move in combat or just makes the whole display laggy. This is especially noticeable if you're running in 1080p - we had to drop our 360's display back to 1080i to get the game to run at an acceptable frame-rate, and this on a brand new 360 running a boxed copy of the PAL release.

Doesn't sound so hot!

The framerate stuff isn't going to magically disappear because of mastering issues. I think that much has been concluded well before this point.

Well, the guy I quoted believes there are BIG differences in both the loading and the framerate between the two versions!

IMO the camera in NGB was crucial if you wanted to fight the berserkers, especially in the last fiend challenge on VH and MN, you needed to fight them one-at-a-time and in order to do that you must keep the camera focusing on one of them (the other berserkers don't attack when they're off-camera, like some kind of code of honor), if you don't do this you're pretty much dead

could that be a PAL issue? I remember PAL-land people saying there was bad tearing in their version of NG and Black for the Xbox (not the case for the NTSC-U version.)

Maybe they should stop upscaling to 1080 and just play at 720p

Yeah cause Eurogamer reviews are the way to go right?

The only reviews I'm interested in are IGN, Gamespot, Edge, 1up/EGM, Gametrailers. While 1up scores are mostly completely unreliable, it's fun to read.

The OP says reviews don't matter.

You all read the OP, didn't you????
How are you the funny little man, aren't you. It's really pathetic to say stuff like this in the hope a mod comes by, and do what you want him to do.
