Ninja Gaiden II: The Official GAF Thread of Chaos

What the hell is that about? It's the most defensive game in the series. The major complaint is how nerfed the offensive game is from 3.2 (Yes side stepping is restricted to attacks, but that's one tiny element gone seeing it was never implemented at a VF or even Tekken level)

It has been over a year since I've even played 4 (or DoA at all), but that's how I remember it. I turtled a lot in 2 and 3, but I'd get my shit destroyed in 4 if I tried it--more guard crushes, no side stepping, expanded offense for everyone killed me. Playing as rush-down Hitomi worked a hell of a lot better than my usual turtle/punish tactics. I didn't put enough time in to get high level though and only played online, so my experience was limited...

On topic-- the english voice for the head werewolf is a dead ringer for Dr. Claw from inspector gadget (check the shacknews review.) :lol

also on topic-- right analog in battle = death. lern2camera reviewers.

^ I thought that was bannable? Or does it not matter anymore since sp0rsk lost his modship?

This place has been a lot more fun to post since that happened.
Less randomly placed land mines, you know? ;)

On topic-- whatever happened to the other playable character? Is it the new girl? DLC?

A man has to take a stand some time.

Ninja Gaiden equalling Haze is where I draw that line.

Sometimes, a man has to roll.

And when there's a wall, a man has to jump off that wall, or run along it.

Err.. the link's already in the post you quoted.

Banned Memes #5

edit:
Oh, link to his modship loss? :lol Pretty much happened behind the scenes, but it had something to do with the upcoming GAF redesign according to people in the know.

Derail!

No idea about the girl. I thought it was Ryu only?

Summary of the review plz ?

- Story is nice and dramatic, with lots of ninjas and helicopters.
- Graphics and visuals are good and honorable.
- Battles can be a little violent.
- Would be nice to be able to give Sonia different cosplay outfits.

HAHAHAHA.

So fighting against the camera is part of the challenge of the game? I love it!

Nothing like game reviewers bending over backwards to excuse a game's faults.

Although I can't speak for the reviewers opinions, it seems to me that he was touching on the same thing the PC Game World guy foregrounded: that being that in NG2 the designers seemed to specifically design the camera system based around direct user control with the intent that--much like the devs assume that players will want to master Ryu's skills--they will also want to simultaneously master the camera to give them the best possible venue to execute the former.

If my assumption is correct (and that's all it is) than it would seem that your terming of this point as simply 'fighting against the camera' is a misnomer.

your assumption is correct, though the camera became second nature to me within hours in NG1--there was nothing to master, really.

(but his "HAHAHAHAHA" leads me to believe he doesn't care either way, unfortunately.)

Oh I care.

The camera in NGB hasn't presented much of a problem to me so far (playing through it right now). So the idea that "mastering the camera" has been a fundamental gameplay pillar from the start, as noted in the Sci-Fi review, is laughable.

Hence the HAHAHAHAHA.

I see. fwiw, people are saying the camera is about the same. so yeah, "mastering" was a way dramatic way of putting it.

That is good to know.

I should add that I'm on pre-release-review High Alert post GTA4, so that's why I reacted that way.

NG camera was something to be mastered though. If you pay attention to how the view shifts, you'll never be blindsided by enemies off camera. As long as NG2 is the same I'm set.

Man, so of you sound like a bunch of chumps that don't know how the play the game. So fucking pumped the greatest action game this gen!:D

if anyone interested, here is the message that was sent to reviewers regarding framerate/loading issues:

http://www.gamespot.com/users/Kevin-V/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=m-100-25424593#signup

Just a quick note from Team NINJA below regarding the "Ninja Gaiden II" red discs. Please note that the delay in load times you may experience is not representative of the final game. In the final boxed copy of the game, which you will receive once the game ships to retail on June 3 in the U.S., you will not experience any lag in load times. Team NINJA is aware of the issue and requests your patience as you play through the review red disc.

Xbox 360 spins DVDR media slower than replicated media, so it's not representative of how final media will perform. Also, please keep in mind that this build distributed early to you guys for review purposes is not final retail code (emphasis added -- KV). While the build contains many final gameplay features, story elements, and graphical capabilities, it's a press evaluation build so it is not as fully optimized as a retail product. Generally, load time is one feature that improves between review builds and final product. While there typically is not a major noticeable difference between review builds and retail product, it can vary, so please keep this in mind while working on your review.

it happened with Lost Odyssey as Kevin already stated.

Watching the 10-minute vid, I just wanted whoever was playing to stop doing Flying Swallows; he kept getting hit after landing and I'm all like, 'change your strategery!', but he didn't and stuff.

it's BlimBlim :lol

Well this is awkward.

Hmm, now to transistion from the awkward phase with a masterful use of the ellipsis...

On another note, did they say something about the werewolves throwing (spoiler) at Ryu? Because that made me grin until my jaw hurt.

TWAAAAK TWAAAAK TWAAAAK TWAAAAK... TWAAAAK.. TWAAAAK TWAAAAK..

I guess now we know why there is no demo yet. It would have been trashed by everyone if demo had same problems as review copy. Specially loading problem.

I'm reading the 1up.com review right now. A lot of complaining about the camera so far, but if it's the same as Ninja Gaiden: Black's, I'll have no problem. Heck, the camera in the ORIGINAL XBX Ninja Gaiden didn't bother me, and you barely have any control over it! Sounds like the controls are even better than before and the enemies are tenacious as ever. A revolution's always nice, but as long as this game is on par with the last + a few extras, I'll be very, very happy.

edit: wow, just read the first post. Best official thread ever? It just might be.

Camera issues fixed from NG:S and will there be a PS3 demo?

I am beginning to think that the demo was either delayed or canceled. PS3 demo? The X360 is doing great to ee a demo, so I don't think a PS3 demo will happen anytime soon. It is sort of peculiar considering the reviews have mostly been fairly positive. Well, at least they are advertising it on television.

ok, really starting to get into Black now, izuna drop & flying swallow for den win.

Chapter 4 question: got a message that a hidden weapon is in a back alley and I know I need to get up, but continuous jumps don't work :s There are blue lines so I know it's there, but I can't get high enough

ok scratch that I got it

holy shit this shuriken is awesome

If I remember correctly, wall run along the walls with the blue lines and make sure to jump on each side when you see that that walls are going to end. To wall run, run towards the wall and press jump and Ryu should start running for a short distance. When you get to the final wall, do a light slash with the equipped, then a hard slash with the Dragon Sword equipped to gain more distance. That should allow you to make it to the final platform to get the secret weapon which is VERY useful. It's alot easier than it sounds. Remember, Dragon Sword equipped, light slash in the air while jumping and I don't remember if the hard slash is really necessary because I think the light slash will be enough to make it. Hope that helps you.

Edit: Never mind, you got it.

Why don't I?

Listen to me: I would kill you right now to play Ninja Gaiden 2. I would damn my soul to an eternity of fire and torment just to play the game a week before everyone else.

You remember that.
Can I tell you where I am keeping my copy? I havent fought to death in a while.

Not the highest quality video source, but here's some images of one version of that dlc costume.

Not a fan personally, really hate the color.

Wait, you have to pay for additional costumes? I must of missed that one. That sucks. At least give us something for beating the game on the hardest difficulty. Right?

Not sure if there will be extra ones that will be unlocked but this one comes in a pack with a few others about a month after release I think for 200 points, and yeah it's stupid, should be free...

Holy shit the costume looks even better than the artwork!

Yeah, I'm more than satisfied that I made that pre-order from the UK just to get that costume pack, even if it comes late! :D

And hopefully the demo will come at release to tide me over till it reaches my door...

Shit.... I might need to buy that costume..... even if it's against everything that I deem right in the industry..... it's..... so cool.... :(

This game is the one reason I'm disappointed I'm too poor to have a 360. Well, not the only reason, but there is simply no denying Ninja Gaiden holds to flag for best Ninja video game or even....ninja in the media?
