Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Engadget is a gadget blog, not a gaming site. If it doesn't have quad cores, HD resolution and can be jailbroken they're not interested in it.

It's like Top Gear reviewing the Ford Focus, they're only doing it for a laugh. The guy they've put on the 3DS coverage there hasn't liked it since E3 last year.

Oh and there's at least one factually incorrect statement in that review, the 3DS does charge over USB. I have a DSi USB charger, deal with it.

So, random thought: From seeing the Super Street Fighter IV review score in the Game Informer review thread...

Can anyone think of a better-recieved third party launch title on any system?

Circle of the Moon and Tony Hawk for the GBA.

For those who have a 3DS, are the graphics closer to the PSP or the GameCube in terms of quality?

Eh?

I think you'll have to be a bit more specific than that, as that's a question that can be interpreted in a couple of ways. Do you mean "is the machine technically closer to X than Y", or do you mean "do the games look more like the games on X than Y"?

The biggest shame about the 3DS, if you had to ask me, is the image low quality of the 3D camera. It's more disappointing than battery life for me.

the results look so bad that the novelty of it all will wear off in record time.

Low-res would be fine if the quality was good, but it isn't. Light sensitivity is poor, so turn on those lamps, and color reproduction disappoints.

Is it really that bad?

Don't shoot me for asking this, but I have no clue where the answer will be in the thread, so really quick...

Would my Japanese DS games work in the US 3DS that I will be getting later this month?

Actually they're more of an Apple cheerleader site than anything.

Engadget complained about the 3DS having a VGA camera - reckon they'll do the same for the iPad 2?

Of course not. They will completely forgive/overlook the VGA camera on the iPad 2 because it's Apple.

Some quick questions about the game saving situation, apologies if already answered:

Games save directly to the SD card, yes? Do you have the option within games to save to internal memory instead? (Or do I have it backwards, it saves to internal and you have the option to save to SD?)

Do you have the ability to transfer all types of data between SD and internal, same as on the Wii, or are they keeping either storage location "pure" of game saves, mp3s etc. for whatever reason?

Games save your progress to the carts themselves, and StreetPass data exchange profiles to the internal system flash. Saved StreetPass data, photos, and MP3s are stored on the SD card. Read the FAQ in the OP.

Yes. Japanese DS games will work in your US 3DS, but Japanese 3DS games will not. Read the FAQ in the OP.

I haven't used the camera in low light, but it was nice and clear in GAME when I used it there. Its much better then the DSi camera, if that means anything to you.

I wouldn't listen to Engadget, its a joke site IMO.

Wait, are you serious? This was the assumption before release, but everything I've read after has been people saying they save to the SD card/internal. I think I saw it from two different 3DS owners, like vook and donkey show or something...

I did read the OP and it doesn't answer this particular question. I know that photos are saved to the SD card, but can they be saved to the internal memory as well? If not directly, can they be transferred there? And can game saves be relocated to the SD card or internal memory?

Using an Apple earphone remote to play/stop and change tracks.

Stupid question time -- I had the vague feeling there was a "standard" for remotes in earphone jacks. Isn't there? Is the iPod/iPhone thing unique, or just something that most devices don't bother to support?

Well before every race Ridge Racer talks about the SD card... so I dunno if that means it's saving to it or what.

There is option that able to transfer photos from SD card to Internal storage. And you may change default save location as well. For game save datas? no.

Hey, sounds like you have the Japanese version of this game. Can you tell me how many costumes each character has, including the default costume? And could you check Cammy in particular to see if she has her cat burglar costume?

Ok thanks. It's nice then that they are supported in the 3DS, since they're not doing playback controls with the shoulder buttons.

I see we are still not sure if the saves are saved on the system or the cartridge...

I guess patches and stuff should be saved directly on the system, right? Well... if the system accepts game patches.

Patches could be stored on the game card themselves. They are large enough.

On the demo it has the original costume with (I thiiink) 4 alt costumes. One of them was catsuit-esque, but I can't say with certainty.

THANK YOU!

Level 7's are a PITA to get from the slot machine

What exactly do the figures do, exactly?
Well, you can set up a team of five figurines to fight people when you pass them on the street with your 3DS. You can collect up to 500 figurines and you can trade them online with friends via a lobby system. Also you can buy figurines with FP (fight points) which you obtain from playing the game. You can buy FPs too with gold coins (1gc = 200FP = one figurine), which you earn by walking with your 3DS. Anyway, there is a slot machine system, where you can spend those FPs to get new figurines:

281fh.jpg

Figurines are ranked from lvl1-7, but you can have several different figurines for the same character with the same level, but a different costume and different stats.

SUPER characters have the original costume (+ different colorways) and an additional costume (+ different colorways). All the other characters have two additional costumes and their colorways. I'm not sure if you can unlock new ones tho. As for Cammy's cat burglar costume: no.

It really is terrible. Especially for 3D photos, with the thick grain and terrible color reproduction, the 3D effect (which doesn't even seem that strong in photos taken on the 3DS in the first place) is made pretty irrelevant imo.

OK, so that's the 25 original characters times three costumes for 75 "versions" (750 if you count 10 colors per costume), and then for the 10 characters added in Super, you have two costumes for 20 "versions" (200 if you count 10 colors per costume). Ninety-five versions to pick from -- quite the variety. :)

Bummer about no cat-girl Cammy, though. Is that variant even available on the consoles yet? Maybe they'll add it as DLC. I think Ono said it'd be possible. Still, I only got the first wave of DLC for the original 25 characters, so the second alt on each character will be new to me (mmm, M. Bison Cammy), as will the first alt on the Super characters.

Hey, can you zoom in on the figures to examine them in close detail?

Well, you can zoom in a bit closer and watch it rotating, but you while doing that you can't zoom in/out or flip the figurine etc...

EDIT
Found some more codes:

lvl7 Sakura - uzTsXzIbKn (it's an upper case "i")

lvl7 Dan - rDRkkSIbqS (it's an upper case "i")

For those who didn't get the 5th March notification (for whatever reason) from Capcom, here is your lvl7 Blanka code: DmdkeRvbxc
