How is playing the 3DS with it in the cradle? Uncomfortable? Bulky? Good? Etc?
Can't really play much of anything while it's in the cradle. Better off just plugging the adapter directly into the 3DS is you wanna play while charging.

Playing the 3DS in the Cradle with Layton is actually pretty good and comfortable to play mainly because of the viewing angle of the screen. For like like Ridge Racer and Street Fighter is near on impossible to play the 3DS while it's in the cradle.

You have the Hori screen protectors yes? How are they? Are they pretty transparent?

It might've been someone else...

So, random thought: From seeing the Super Street Fighter IV review score in the Game Informer review thread...
I saw it scored 9/10 but it would be cool to read some parts of the review.

Can anyone think of a better-recieved third party launch title on any system?

I thought maybe Madden on 3do but that looks to of not hit with the console in Oct 93. Actual release was 4 months after the season and 4 before the next season. EA repeating again years later pushing Madden on 3DS cause they can.

Found this on 3do launch.
Customer decisions on machine purchases usually are based on what games can be played on those machines, analysts said, and so far, the software selection for 3DO is slim. A 3DO spokeswoman said there will be 10 to 20 games available for Christmas sales, though more than 150 games are under development.

There is option that able to transfer photos from SD card to Internal storage. And you may change default save location as well. For game save datas? no.

How do you know, are you also a 3DS owner? You've taken out the cartridge and checked system memory like you would on the Wii, and there's nothing about the individual games? Nothing on the SD card if you browse its contents?

Ok thanks. It's nice then that they are supported in the 3DS, since they're not doing playback controls with the shoulder buttons.

Man, how can there be so much conflicting information about the 3DS even now? Two days ago nofi posted his impressions and they included this line:

It mostly works, however, despite a few oddities: the triggers really don’t need to activate the camera throughout the menu system, especially as the camera application takes a while to load, and likewise they shouldn’t skip music tracks when the system is on standby.

Which I took to mean that you can navigate tracks with the shoulder buttons when in standby (and nofi doesn't like it because of accidental bumping).

So can you use the shoulder buttons for music control or not?

Simple:

-- Amateur fansites/blogs written by people with a poor understanding/no understanding of Japanese who are trying to decipher technical manuals and/or system prompts and failing.
-- Amateur fansites/blogs written by people who - though they may understand Japanese - aren't very good at writing and are failing to communicate the finer details of the system accurately.
-- Professional sites running import previews falling foul of the former, but getting more credence because of their "pro" status.
-- Messageboard Chinese Whispers - "this guy on Messageboard X said that he heard read a post from someone on the comments section of Site Y who said that his 3DS doesn't have feature Z"

EDIT:

I should make clear that I'm not lumping all pro/amateur sites in the above categories, but I think the ones that do a good job are struggling to be heard among the others, and especially when we're talking about the launch of a piece of hardware in a foreign territory misinformation rules the day.

VOOK

Well what do you want to know right now? I'll do a video of it - debunking shit ASAP.

Basically what I asked -

Assuming you can continue listening to music through headphones when the system is closed, do the shoulder buttons navigate through audio tracks when it's closed?

Do games save to the cartridge as they did on the DS, or on the system as they do on the Wii?

Regardless of where they save, can you transfer saves to/from the cartridge/SD/internal?

Actually I think a brief video of the data management screens would be interesting anyway, whether it's exactly like DSi or has more/different options.

Thanks for offering Vook, you've been really helpful all throughout this launch, giving us impressions and such.

Ahaha, VOOK, that is the best avatar ever.

Has anyone that's played Pilotwings know how long of a game it is? That one review got me excited but since I can only get one game at US Launch I want to make sure it has good longevity and playability.

Well;

1. I have three tracks in my Nintendo 3DS sound app, when the lids is shut the music continues playing but the L and R buttons continue to play the 'sound effect' buttons.

2. I have a video coming soon, from what I can tell I have saves (of some sort) for Face Raiders, SSFIV3D and the Mii Channel on my system. There's a separate menu for StreetPass spots with SSFIV, Ridge Racer and the Mii Plaza.

There is a menu for DSiWare and another menu that throws up the standard 'will be available later with a system update' (I've seen this dialog in English too).

It does not look like there is any internal storage yet, games are saved on the card like the DS but 'some' data gets put on the 3DS. Probably not the entire save.

J-GAF should be able to translate my video.

It's not out yet. For some stupid reason Japan gets it late.

Well, it's official, I sold my DSi on eBay to help pay for the 3DS. In the end, I don't have to pay anything out of pocket for the 3DS and the first game for it. Woohoo!

regarding transferring DSi games, will I need the old DSi to do it from, or will copying them to an SD card suffice?

No one knows yet, the menu doesn't give any hints.

It really is terrible. Especially for 3D photos, with the thick grain and terrible color reproduction, the 3D effect (which doesn't even seem that strong in photos taken on the 3DS in the first place) is made pretty irrelevant imo.

:(

Are the 3d pictures comparable to the cross-eyed/parallel viewings you can find online? Yeah, it's a novelty. However, I managed to continually return to the DSi camera and have bundles of fun with the cheap gimmicks available.

Can I expect similar from the 3DS in relation to 3D pictures?

Thanks. Crazy lady in GAME said I could just copy them to the SD card and trade the device in, but that doesn't sound very likely to me.

This kind of misinformation is horrible, I wonder how many games she'll unintentionally cheat out of people.

...and there's the problem. I'm actually a little concerned by the trade-in programs places like GAME are offering for the 3DS, as I would imagine there are a number of people trading in their DSi/DSiXL who may actually require the unit - not just an SD card with saved games/apps - to carry out the system transfer and are going to be screwed out of this.

I think an argument could be made that it would have benefited owners if Nintendo had been more open about how the transfer would work before now, but given the kind of shite GAME (and other game shop) staff spew about things it probably would have been pointless anyway...

Great work Cheesemeister, thanks for doing that. Makes sense you can't edit data on the system yet - there's no channels to install.

I wonder what Additional data means....

I really can't believe we have so much misinformation, here at NeoGAF... and specially because the system was launched two weeks in Japan and here on NeoGAF we have so many Japanese members.

We are still not even sure about the system internal storage. We are still not sure where the DLC is saved (when I talk about DLC, I'm not talking about downloadable eShop games, but extra content for retail games).

It has been answered before:

Gamesaves --> cartridge

DLC content --> SD card

even if the shop isn't available until May, you'd have thought they could have a DSi transfer app available before that. All it needs to do is validate what games you have installed, and create some sort of unique one-time-use key which you can redeem in the 3DS store later on.

then you could safely trade in your DSi and just wait for the eshop to open.

As it is, the GAME tradein is stupid because it seems you have to trade your DSi in over a week before the damn 3DS is even available. So thats over a week with no multiplayer NSMB (almost the only DS game I play anymore)

Goemoooon! Awesome! And it's cool to see Mii have been updated with many new options compared to the wii version.

FMV was awful on DS, so that's good news I guess :)
I want glorious goemon on 3ds. 3D Impact battles goooooooooooooooooooooooo

Wouldn't mind a simple updated collection of both N64 adventures.

Do you guys think that Nintendo will offer more options for the Miis on the 3DS via DLC... like hats, shirts and stuff?
Why not just patch it in for free? I really hope Nintendo doesn't go the nickel and dime route with stuff like that.

We know they don't want you to trade in since the used DS Lite/i/XL market crashing will hit the new market (and thus profits...). Like with GBA they want to keep DS going except they've probably left this one a bit late to work quite as nicely as the GBA (would be like DS coming out in 2006 GBA support).

As for the GAME trade-in. Well, thats one way of locking people in. You can't exactly change your mind now...

Yeah, I meant that. Free DLC for Miis or free accesories via Coins.

Also... I hope any games using Miis on the 3DS are programmed to use any kind of Miis... the Mii system on the Wii cannot be updated in any way because the games were programmed in a way that if Nintendo decided to update the Mii system, old games like Wii Sports or Mario Kart Wii, couldn't use the new Miis.

Edit: Dayum, my English sucks.

I don't see Nintendo charging for stuff like that. Maybe they would use the coins as currency, but I doubt charging real money would be something they would do.
