Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

2D Link is not so far off from Wind Waker link, really. But imo, Minish Cap has the best 2D Link. Looks wise, anyway.
I actually really like the Link version they've used in the Satellaview version of AlttP, but I'm sure I'm pretty much alone there lol.

There's a reason for that.

The person creating the image or video or whatever didn't swap the two images.

If you're viewing through a program you will also need to swap the images in order to get the right effect.
I'm just looking at them on GAF with my eyes crossed.

Looks exactly like it looks on my DSL , anyways *shrug* it's not a big deal either way

Maybe you labeled them wrong? I'm having trouble imagining you can't tell how much more blue the DSL shot looks. It's not a big deal at all but there's no way Etrian Odyssey should look so blue on any system, 3DS or DSL!

Here, focus in:

In the DSL Shot, look at the menu options. Look how blue they are. In the 3DS shot, look at the same menu options. They've got the proper Etrian Odyssey menu color.

So how would you folk rate the "clickyness" between the 3DS, DSi/XL and the OG DSLite

I personally loved the DSLite's gummi buttons and was a bit sour when they moved to hard plastic

Is the 3DS's a bit better in that regard?

Thanks!

Yes. It's so drastic that if component cables were involved, I'd check to make sure the red one wasn't loose.

Oh.

Well uh... if you're not seeing it correctly I'm not quite sure what to tell you, as the ones posted here are done properly and look fine to me.

Practice makes perfect.

Took me a long time to get any good at it.

Took me even longer to get to the point where I can glance at an image and pretty much instantly get it to work.

Random stupid-but-interesting thought: pop the polarized lenses out of movie theater glasses, attach them to 3DS in front of the two cameras, get 3D pics and videos from 3D movies in the theater.

He's specifically referring to the color tone of each shot. The 3DS shot is more faithful to the way the game looks on my DS too (artifacts aside, where clearly the DS has the advantage). Seems your pictures you took just came out weird.
Yeah, I don't think it's right to judge colors from off-screen photos; we already know how the colors of EO look on the DSi/lite, and it definitely doesn't have that blue tint. I personally asked DCharlie to take a photo to confirm how bad stretched-out/blurred DS games look on the 3DS (seeing SMB64 running unstretched on a 3DS in 1UP's video gave me hope).

I'm still baffled by how one game can be stretched while other isn't.

What game is that and which screen is which? I assume the top is DS Lite, and I think it looks better. Although the colors do seem a little more natural on the bottom one.

It's an Etrian Odyssey game.

Also, read the text on the image for which screen is which.

And even i am moderately surprised
Anyone pick up Samurai Warriors Chronicle?

yup, but football is about to start - so most likely will be tomorrow before i give it a try. Plus i have the other 7 too lol.

Looking forward to more of your impressions when you have them :)

Big thumbs up to the 8-4Play guys too for putting that together for today.

Shame Pilotwings wasn't a Japanese launch games...it would help give me a much better sense of whether I want one on day one here in Europe or not.

From "I didn't preorder even one" to "I bought all they've got" - awesome lol!

That DS Lite looks pretty messed up. The top screen of my current DS has a slight yellowness, too, but the color distortion is not nearly as noticeable. :0

On all these cross-eye pictures I see the 3D "backwards" (The foreground objects have more depth than the background stuff). I hope once I get my hands on a 3DS I can see everything properly. :/
Maybe because it's easier for you to see in parallel.

In cross-eyed, your left eye looks at the right image, and vice versa. In parallel, left eye = left image, right eye = right image. For me, I can only see parallel, so I swapped the images in MS Paint for myself. (I also made them 66% size so I could do the effect easier.)

I think parallel is easier because your eyes don't have to move nearly as far.

Yeah, also maybe try doing it on a small screen like on a smartphone. I find it takes less stress to do than in front of a monitor for me.

(Un)fortunately, my myopia and slight astigmatism gives me the ability to do perfect cross-eyed 3D on a small screen without crossing my eyes. lol

So what's the word on Ridge Racer? Is it 60 fps or 30 fps? It should at least be 60 in 2D mode, but I have a feeling it's not.

And did someone with an eye for fps differences find SSFIV is 30 or 60fps?

Edit: and don't say "check out this youtube video, it's clearly 60fps", while the video is limited to 30fps. thanks!

It's not a direct screen cap. DC probably took the photo with his iPhone :p

With no way to extract direct feed footage from these things, will we ever be able to tell?

I guess if somebody used a 60FPS camera and uploaded it to DDL site, right?

A video out should be mandatory on every media device.

I'm at work now so I won't be able to try swapping the images until later.

I just hope I can see the effect properly on the 3DS. I can see 3D movies no problem so I never really gave it much thought. I'm gonna be so mad if I can't see 3DS 3D...

HOLY SHIT.

Though 3DS doesn't do 3D filming :p

I suppose that will be the only way to prove it. But impressions have been all over the place regarding this one. If someone would just come out and say he can clearly tell the difference between 30 and 60 on other games (I'm not sure how anyone can't, but this is neogaf), I'd take his word for it!

Cross-eyed or whatever method involving conscious work for your eyes has nothing to do with the 3DS's 3D.

If you can see it in the movies, you'll see it on the 3DS.

man, Dead or Alive fucked things up for everyone

I still think the 3DS version looks better. :/

Just wondering if anyone could test the sound of it?

When I tried the demo units, the volume was crap, but I was in a public location at the time... Can anyone confirm if the audio is better than the DSi/DSL?

Cheers. :D

Is there any eShop access at all yet (even just for DSiWare)? Or is it going to be totally unavailable until May?

It just seemed like some of the pre-release news was conflicting regarding it.

Could you take some macro pictures like this of the upper screen (3ds game or menu), one with 3d enabled and one with 3d disabled?
Just curious what it looks like up close. Thanks!

I can do that as well with "stare-eo-grams" or whatever, but I get mixed results too when I do it with the images posted in this thread. Not reversed, but inconsistent depth. ::shrug::

DC's picture resized to 400x240 to give a better indication on how it'd look.

Eh, not pixel perfect but tolerable for someone who doesn't own a DSi/lite I guess.

the only problem with this is how come the DS screen has a wide screen ratio?
