I saw a vid of some of the AR model viewing in action at Gnintendo, and I dearly hope I'm wrong about this but it looks janky as all hell. Model bouncing all over the place, the system constantly complaining about being too close or too far from the card. Can someone assuage my fears on this?

I can confirm the bouncing models, weird micro-freezes in framerate, and a high maintenance distance meter with the AR games.

It is at once amazing magical tech and also the most janky of specs/execution.

The guy made an extra large card. in order to see the whole figure he had to move further back that normal than required on a smaller card. Hence the jankyness.

Happens with normal cards too. Might have something to do with the quantity of light in the room for the camera to pick up.

I didn't think it was that janky, but then my experience of AR games is limited to AR Monster on iPhone which is a fucking joke.

Anyone have this little vision problem?
After playing 3DS for like 20 mins or so, if I go use a computer, my eyes are confused, trying to see 3D on the regular monitor. I feel cross-eyed for a while.
You are going blind good sir. Enjoy your lasts few moments of sight

I'm so glad at this news, it means I can finally take and see 3D pictures with my A55.

3DS will make my camera even more awesome than it already is :)))

you know the a55 only takes 3D panoramas, right? which i can't see working too well on a screen that size...

Yes yes yes! Here I was thinking I was going crazy, like why do all of a sudden I feel like there is 3d on my computer? so you are not alone, it's not a particularly bad sensation it just feels like I'm looking at a 3d computer screen without the effect of 3d.

Also I want to talk about game coins:

I love love the concept, but the execution is not that joyful, walking as the only method to collect them is ridiculous. I know Miyamoto has said he loathes achievements, but do you think there is any possibility of incorporating some other way to earn game coins in the future? I do my 1000 steps, but I still want to collect more! As it is now 2 years from now I can't imagine it being any more then a gimmick.

Walking is not the only way to get it. Basically any type of shaking can garner "steps." I went snowboarding today, had my 3DS in my bag, and picked up over 5000 "steps." You can also rock it like a shakeweight and get your steps that way.

Yeah, it sounds like I'm going to need to get a parallax 3D monitor as well.

Shit, that'll only run me like ten grand, right?

It doesn't even matter. There's a max of 10 coins per day, from 1000 steps.
I walked 10000 steps the first night on purpose (a 4km journey I could have driven), and all I got was 10 coins. Meeeeh.

Strape your 3DS to a fan?

Edit: Nvm forget its 10 coins per day only.

That kind of sucks. I try to walk that amount (10K) every day anyway, too bad about that cap.

Yeah, totally forgot to mention that. Disappointing I only had 19 (9 prior) after all those "steps" accumulated boarding.

The black units in these videos are terrible finger print magnets.

First thing I'm doing when I get one is putting an invisible shield on it. (If that new coating doesn't allow to wipe the fingerprints away effortlessly)
As I understand it, the fingerprint-proof coating is only on the outside of the case, not the inside.

In two years everyone is going to have 999 coins anyway. So pointless.
There's a cap of 300 coins at a time.

Fingerprint coating is only on the outside.

Edit: D'oh.

I wonder what Nintendo thinks of this?
Well, nothing? Every sports game is like that, they want to be realistic so they portray real life ads as well. Sony has ads during Champions League games, and that's a picture of the CL mode. See other PES versions, even previous ones.

Anyway, the game looks really good. I'd buy it launch day along with SSF4.

Hold your A55 vertically and shoot your panorama, the result is more suited to a 16/9 screen.

the first guy they interviewed isnt he a poster in GAF?
It's sp0rsk. He also did 1up's 3DS videos.

Anyways, I really like all the game-y features that the 3DS has. As we go into a world dominated by Smartphones and multitasking devices, Nintendo is all we really have in terms of gaming dedication devices.

They added a lot of applications, but they all of something game related to them, which is great. They added all the features in a basic smartphone and then layered on top the Nintendo touch.

Add in really cool ideas like coins that no one would've thought of, in addition to street pass, and it just makes for a great package.

I love what Nintendo is doing with 3DS, besides the system's design. Bleh.

I asked at the post office (EMS) and at Kuroneko, and they both said no-go. I can imagine there will be a lot of disappointed eBay buyers.

Woops didn't make myself clear here: I live in Tokyo, I walk 1600 steps one way just to get to my train station every day. I'm not that lazy that I'm unhappy about having to walk 1000 steps a day.

But I want even more ways to get them! Game coins are a powerful reward system and having walking being the only thing they reward/only way to get them I feel is a wee bit wasteful, not taking advantage of the possible addictive ness of the system.

The obvious wish is for achievements in games, like 10-25 coins a game etc.. but any other ways that you could do more activities that would get you the coins would be grand.

Jonnyram said:
You can use them already in some stuff, so I don't see that happening.

Yeah at my very rough estimate here, to get everything offered in the Layton Game it would cost you at least 300~ coins, and apparantly as the game goes on you get more stuff unlocked that you can purchase with coins

That stops people?
I don't think those kind of warnings ever have before.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

So, I graduated this year and am one of the lucky people to get a salary job out of college... I wouldn't have gotten the 3DS in year's past, but I kinda wanna get it for that very reason. A little gift to myself because I can.

i guess you could do that...or use the vertical panorama option and crop. i have an a55 too anyway so i'll give it a shot when i can.

They thought Angry Birds was a launch title.
