As for the pedometer, you can use the DS like a shakeweight and trick it into getting those steps as well. I guess it's like the Pokewalker.

And I'm loving the QR function for the Miis. Wish they had something like that for the Friend Codes.

I think just about everybody will take better gameplay over better aesthetics any day, and twice on Tuesday. Nintendo changed the material of the analogue stick to a rubbery one after a lot of experimentation because it felt and controlled a lot better than the shiny slick thing they had at E3.

They could've just used the same material for the nub, that they used for the DSi's texture. The texture on that was pretty much perfect for your fingers.

They most likely tried that, and it wasn't as good. We want the best control, not kinda good control but good looks. Here's what the engineer (Miyatake) said about it:

IwataAsks said:
Miyatake: The materials for the Circle Pad have changed since the announcement at E3. We used double molding, and the parts where your fingers touch are rubbery.

Iwata: When we announced it at E3, it was a single material, but later we changed the surface material and made it two.

Miyatake: Right. We considered resins with different textures and more pad shapes than you can count. It's sort of the face of the Nintendo 3DS system, so we reflected the opinions of as many people as we could, including software developers, and I think it turned out to have a very nice grip.

I think its kinda wierd that there is an LED indicating 3D next to the screen. I mean, if there is any 3D I will see it on the screen anyway, right?

Does the fact that it's a different kind of rubber really preclude coloring it though?

Yeah, I found that a bit odd as well. Lots of youtube videos have the 3D LED bright and glowing, yet the slider (and the video) clearly indicates that the 3D isn't even on. Why wouldn't the LED shut off if the 3D is off?

I think the LED just indicates whether 3D content is available.

Fuck. Once again my need for new shiny stuff has gotten the better of me, about to preorder a blue one...

This launch lineup is hideous though. I think im actually going to get fucking Ridge Racer, gah, why is there no FIFA, PES stinks :(

Looking through the PDF version of the manual a bit, there's some mention of the DS in the internet section, so I'm curious if the DS internet settings are stored seperately. I can't read a lick of Japanese though, and google translate isn't helping much.

On previous systems, transferring your WFC ID was a matter of choosing the settings transfer option in the DSi internet settings menu or DS/Lite internet setting menu (from within a WFC game) and then setting the new system to DS Download play.

I'm not sure if that's how it would work to transfer your DS friend codes to 3DS (or if that might even be damaging to the system,) but I really hope the option is there before May.

I would think there would be more documentation on migrating DS settings, because honestly who wants to get new friend codes for every single DS title they own?

Some people will wonder 'how come there is no 3D?" when there is no 3D on screen.

When I first saw the 3DS it was playing the Street Fighter Intro scene where there is no 3D, and I was wondering if the machine wasn't working. Then I realize the 3D led is off.

Agreed on the new nub, both in color and design. FAR superior to the old colored one, which looked cheap, shitty, and frankly not up to Nintendo's standards.

NNIIIIICEEE.

I'm telling you, NO ONE wants to talk sports games, but all of the sites that got their hands on this said it's not only great in 3D, but plays very will. I want more impressions.

Yeah, PES11 will be THE launch title for me, so it's a little saddening there's so little impressions and video of the game. :(

Very curious about the 3D in that game.

I think that's something that's coming. Here's a translation of the bit on Page 90:
DS Software Settings

You can also enjoy DS games online.
* You must use an access point with WEP security settings.

[1] Touch "DS Software Settings"

[2] For additional operation information, please read the guide book included with "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection" DS software,
I think they are just flat-out saving it for the May update and there's no info to be had on how it's gonna work until then.

Although, it would be nice if someone who owns a 3DS could check out that menu (assuming it's there) and tell us what they find other than 3 DS-compatible Access Point slots.

Hey, can somebody with a 3DS try this out and see if it works?

1. Print out multiples of an AR mascot card, size according to taste
2. Take a picture and see if you get a Mario Garden

Someone posted a vid earlier with both the standard AR card and the Samus character card on a table at once. The 3DS seemed to get confused, glitching between displaying Samus and the AR Games box. However, I could have been misinterpreting the video.

EDIT: The video in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv859mJQjNs

Did anyone else think of Pokemon cards or Yu-Gi-Oh?
What if, using this camera and 3D technology, the next generation of 9 year olds could not only trade/battle/steal one another's cards, but watch them kick ass through the 3DS? I'm willing to bet people could get really creative with this.

I can certainly see it happening -- I mean, there was Eye of Judgement on PS3, that worked, but I think that idea is definitely more applicable.

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it
My Mii if anyone wants him. :)

Also, a group pose of some of the Mii's I downloaded from this thread.

Gah, the wait is painful. The unbearable wait for MvC3 is finally over and now it's replaced with the unbearable wait for 3DS. Luckily Pokemon Black will arrive before then.

In other news, I'm oddly tempted to pick up Nintendogs as a third title to go along with Pilotwings and Steel Diver. What dogs are in each version? I know all breeds are technically available in each game, and the version "exclusive-ness" is merely which breeds are available first... But still. What's in each game?

Wow! So in other words, you start with one AR Game, unlock five more by beating them, and then a seventh cube appears that flips the table and reveals a Shop where you can unlock another eight AR features by spending coins (coins earned via the system's pedometer, a.k.a. walking around with the system).

So in other words:

Six AR Games (default, or unlock by playing):
+ Targets
+ Minigolf
+ Fishing
+ Graffiti
+ Mii Viewer
+ Star Viewer

Eight AR perks in AR Shop (use pedometer coins):
+ Targets 2
+ Minigolf 2
+ Clock
+ Globe
+ Fish Collection
+ Free Fish
+ Free Camera
+ Level Editor

Is this correct? Then you add the Mii Maker, Street Quest, Face Raiders, MP3 visualizer, the face blender (take pics of two people, merge together), etc, and you have a TON of content packed into the portable alone. :)

Add Pilotwings, Steel Diver and Pokemon Black to the equation, and if it weren't for MvC3 and maybe DKCR, my consoles would be getting mighty dusty. :)
Video of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcLmeDkx8HI
Globe, Level Editor, and Free Fishing
SPOILER ALERT @ 9:55 - 10:10 (Free Fishing) DON'T WATCH IF YOU WANT TO BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED LATER

Anyone have this little vision problem?
After playing 3DS for like 20 mins or so, if I go use a computer, my eyes are confused, trying to see 3D on the regular monitor. I feel cross-eyed for a while.

I saw a vid of some of the AR model viewing in action at Gnintendo, and I dearly hope I'm wrong about this but it looks janky as all hell. Model bouncing all over the place, the system constantly complaining about being too close or too far from the card. Can someone assuage my fears on this?

it looks like it's because the software is made to recognized one card at a time. put another card, and it will get confused. it's prolly a software limitation.

Maybe a limitation of the camera resolution as well? I wonder if Nintendo can up that for the next iteration of the 3DS.

From the videos I've seen I think it may also have something to do with the quality of the lighting, since the camera works much better with bright or natural light.

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
My Japanese 3DS and 3DS games are both on the same flight to Perth, despite one coming from Hong Kong (the games) and the system from CVX :D

Tomorrow is 3DS day for me :D

I've seen pictures of multiple AR cards in use at once.

In this very thread, even.

The 3DS picks them up just fine.
